Also know formally as a Battle by Wordspell, this is the main form of fighting in our world.
Fighting almost always is done between couples. However, this is not always the case. It is possible for Fighter Units to fight one on one, or for a Fighter and a Sacrifice to fight a lone Fighter. It's also possible for Fighter Units to fight with a Sacrifice with a different name. None of these courses are suggested, however.
When a Fighter Unit fights with a Sacrifice with a different name, their power is halved. When a Fighter Unit fights without a Sacrifice, their power is halved. If a Fighter Unit fought with a Sacrifice with a different name the battle beforehand, and in the current battle fights without any Sacrifice at all, their power is halved, and the remaining power is halved again.
The Battle itself is began by one side saying "I challenge you to a battle by wordspell", the other side saying "I accept", and can be anywhere. When engaged, the surrounding area is washed in a Technicolor barrier. Neither side moves from where they were positioned when the battle began. Fighter Units use words to create fire and water, manipulate objects around them (such as glass beakers, telephone poles, and lamps), to darken or lighten, to make it hotter or colder.
However, Fighter Units cannot create anything that is not already there, or summon anything at all.
There are three kinds of spells: Ones that damages, ones that defends, and ones that restricts.
The damaging spells cut skin and make the Sacrifice bleed. The attacks that restrict cause bandages or rope to wrap around a body part, or - the most common - a collar to appear somewhere on the body (usually the neck or wrists) with chains attached to it, and disappearing into thin air. The spells that defend negate the attack spells, or release restrictions.
A battle is over when one side gives up or the Sacrifice is broken (that is, the Sacrifice is damaged to a point where they cannot continue).
It is illegal to use outside forces during Spell Battles (such as nailing someone's hand to the ground) and also illegal to move at all, unless a spell knocks you for a loop and you're getting back into your place.
It is impossible to kill anyone during a battle.
