First tip for you... save in PNG.
Never save in JPEG... it will ruin the quality of your art every single time you save in that format.

Also you need to pick a light source.
Right now it looks as if you have two that stop down the middle of her body... try just taking one and sticking to that for a while.
Remember there are highlights as well as shades.
So try using three different tones untill you get used to that... then you can move on to more shades and highlight tones.
Also, those shoes only have straps that goe to about a fourth of the foot... so just behind where the toes end. Not half way along the foot. ^^;

But it's a wonderful first piece.

Now no getting exasperated... you've got an awesome start there.
We jsut need to get you moving and working with Pixels more.

And remember... not all pixel art has to be done with a base.
TRy some freehanded stuff sometimes too. <3

.+~+. But I'll add that sometimes, especially when starting out .+~+.
.+~+. That you use a dark color to outline some of the darker things within the doll .+~+.
.+~+. For example: .+~+.
.+~+. Where her Kimono overlaps, try using a darker color to mark that and outline it .+~+.
.+~+. It will help with shading and the clarity of the picture .+~+.
.+~+. But otherwise nice .+~+.
