Basically, the Rainbow Room is sponsoring a monthly contest to draw featured characters! And the prize is that it will be YOU will be the next contest's feature with people drawing your characters! It is a sweet way to get some great arts from your fellow guildmembers.
In short: you draw the featured characters, we vote, and if you win, your characters are featured the next month. Then lather, rinse, repeat!

General:
- The contest opens on the first of the month with fresh information. You have one month to complete your work; all submissions are due on the last day of the month.
- On the first day of the next month, the voting will be opened (along with the new round's characters, whoo). Voting is up for two weeks, after which the winner will be announced.
- It goes like this: if you win a round that was open in March (and the voting is in April), your characters will then be featured in May. We gotta skip a month to get the voting it, but hey! It's worth the wait, right?
- If you win a round, you must send character information to the contest mule, Rainbow Rosalyn, by the last day of the month, so we can have it all up by the next day. The sooner, the better!
Submissions:
- Obviously, whatever you enter should be of the featured character for the month. Please do not add other characters, unless the character's owner says it's cool.
- We're gonna upload stuff on a Photobucket account for easy organization, so please limit your file size to less than 500KB and around 700x700 pixels max.
- Please limit yourself to one entry per contest; however, you may update, replace, or withdraw your entry at any point while the contest is still open to submissions. Though I don't know why you'd want to withdraw; it's a free-for-all!
- All images should not overstep Gaian ToS. Nudity is only ok if the character's owner feels it is approriate.
- ORIGINAL IMAGES ONLY. Do not trace, eyeball, or blatantly copy other existing images. It is uncool, and will furthermore get you kicked out from future contests or the guild all together. We do not like art thieves D: Also: please do not recycle old artwork that you may have already drawn of the characters; fresh stuff only!
Voting:
- After voting is opened up, you may PM the contest mule, Rainbow Rosalyn. DO NOT POST YOUR VOTES. It's a secrettt
- Try to keep in mind two general critera for when you place your vote: creativity and artistic ability. Basically, how originally executed is the idea and how well the artist utilitized their tools. Whichever piece you vote for should, in your opinion, be basically awesome in these standards.
- Please, one vote per person per round. Avoid voting for yourself, because that's just silly.
Characters:
- If you won the previous contest, then EXCELLENT! : D Remember to throw some information to us on the contest mule before the last day of the month.
- All characters are accepted, as long as they belong to you and you alone.
- You may provide up to two characters for us to draw, though we could expand this more in the future.
- Please provide some basic information about each of your characters, like some basic stats, about their personality, and maybe some history on them. Help us to get to know them! It is especially important if your have two characters and they know each other in some way to know what their relationship to each other is like.
- IMAGE REFERENCES PLS. 'Nuff said. At least a colored one per character, please.

Eloria was born to the Nightingale’s, a well-to-do noble family in the crown city of Metorin, in the kingdom of Lopilie. At an early age she had a particular gift with the magical arts, the most notable instant being when a nanny was scolding her and the bantering woman was turned into a bullfrog mid-scold. After the woman was fished out of the pond in the courtyard and returned to her normal state Eloria was promptly enrolled in the Metorin Academy of Magical Arts and Sorcery (MAMAS).
She was a quick study and ascended to the top of her class and upon graduation her future was bright as she was appointed the youngestadvisor to the ruling monarch in recent history. The aged Queen saw promise in the young woman’s determined skill and natural patience, albeit she wasn’t the most tactful advisor known to the crown, helped in no part by her lack of experience. This of course said nothing for her poor handling of tense political situations earning her more enemies than friends. Which of course did nothing for her situation when the Queen eventually died, leaving her not so adept son in her place. Her son who had, since puberty kept a steady eye on the Court Witch.
The King made leering advances on her numerous times until she gave her final answer in the form of a sharp knee to his unprotected crotch. This of course earned her an immediate dismissal from the royal court. Finding nothing for herself in Metorin other than a teaching position at MAMAS, Eloria decided rather to travel, and study abroad, intending to study the eastern and southern Magics. Two months into her travels she came across Sapphire.
Personality:
If one was to use one word to describe Eloria, it would have to be “steady” to the point of being annoying. She is a quiet person who rarely speaks unless it is necessary; instead she prefers to listen and observe the situation before jumping into the fray. When it comes to personal matters she often has to be prompted before she says anything at all. This includes her past, not because it’s painful or anything of that sort, but merely because she doesn’t find it particularly interesting and thus thinks no one else would be particularly interested to hear about it.
Her stubborn streak manages to make its self known every now and then as well, but is usually no match for a good pair of well-trained puppy eyes.
She did however become bitter about her loss of position and blatantly pessimistic, learning the hard way about politics. Something that has still not completely worn off despite Sapphire’s best efforts.SapphireImage References: X XSapphire was born to a tribe of Naga in the southern most country of Aipoi and as a whole led a fairly unremarkable life with her ten siblings, mother and father in a fairly large village. For Naga standards she wasn’t particularly striking in though she did stand out amongst her people with her odd and totally unrelenting urge to travel. Her parents hoped that with an arranged marriage and ten to twenty children she might settled down and accept her fate and duty to the tribe. No one, especially if they were female, left the village unless there was a dispute, battle, meeting of the tribes – or what have you.
Unfortunately a particularly gruesome and persistent battle spilled into the village, a result of land disputes between her tribe and the neighboring one, and the women and children of the village fled.
Certain business men who made the political atmosphere in the southern region of Aipoi their business took advantage of the turmoil in the area. In her attempt to escape both the battle and the slavers Sapphire was wounded, breaking her right wing in the process and made herself quite undesirable to the slavers, especially while running a high fever caused by the festering wound. They left her behind.
In this state Eloria found her in the forest, drawn there by the smoke and noise, and nursed her back to health. This unfortunately included the amputation of her wing, which had become infected and beyond salvage.
Personality:
Sapphire can be described as naively cheerful. She wears her heart on her sleeve so to speak and is incredibly compassionate in most circumstances. The only time this comes into question is when humans are involved. She was raised to be wary of them and the lesson still persists. Her level of talkativeness also depends on what company she is in.
When she’s comfortable you can’t get her to shut up, when she feels like she’s in a little over her head, she tends to keep to herself and allows others to speak for her unless she finds they’re not doing it well enough. She wavers on the border between shy and outgoing, tipping to one side or the other depending on the situation. But she is as strong willed as Eloria and is more than capable of butting heads with the Witch.Eloria and Sapphire:Image ReferenceEloria and Sapphire at present are, in fact, a couple. You would not in fact be able to wrestle just how far they’ve taken their relationship from Eloria despite pain of death, and Sapphire would be too busy blushing to give you a straight answer.
When they first met their relationship was incredibly tense, Sapphire was distrustful of Eloria because she was human and Eloria did not look forward to having a traveling partner in the least, but it seemed they were stuck together. Sapphire wouldn’t let Eloria’s help go without repayment and from that point on the witch entertained the Naga’s presence mostly because of her apparent sway with the Naga in the area. Which was needed if she wanted to learn about the magic in that region without getting speared every time she traipsed into a village.
It took months before they even entertained the notion of calling each other friends. Sapphire was definitely quicker to warm up to the witch, but Eloria wasn’t exactly receptive to the chatty Naga and only mentioned her as a friend in passing nearly a year after they met. How exactly they became a couple isn’t clear, it was probably a combination of Sapphire taking action on her air-headed crush and Eloria finally getting fed up with being alone.
They banter and they tease but they get along incredibly well. Eloria prefers not to show affection in public and Sapphire usually has to make do with hooking her pinky with the Witches until they get out of whichever town/city they’re in. At which point the witch had no problem showing affection towards the Naga and usually does if Sapphire pouts enough.Other:- Sapphire tends to wear something with her namesake colour in/on it (she used to be blue in fact and when I changed her design I didn’t have the heart to change her name as well)
- Sapphire is also incredibly self conscious about her scars and the fact that she only has one wing. She usually keeps her right shoulder bandaged up.
- Eloria always has her staff. ALWAYS. Or at least nearby.
- Eloria is far sighted, she needs her glasses to read and she usually leaves them on rather than taking them off and putting them on again repeatedly through the day
Pertaining to their outfits:
Generally I would like that you keep to what I have them in, or at least something like it. Eloria prefers earthy colours and has been known to don a pair of britches but that’s about it. Sapphire prefers pastels. I do sometimes put them in modern clothes for kicks, but keep in mind it would be very much impossible for Sapphire to wear pants.
