[The roleplay has moved to this link right here.]Once, Escaea and Salarion were allies. When the orcs and other demi-humans stormed the countries from the Barrens, a wasteland to the northeast, the Fay of Escaea and the Humans and Half-beasts of Salarion put aside their squabbles to drive off the intruders. Their combined efforts pushed the invaders back from whence they came, leaving only a few straggling troops left. The Fay wanted to eliminate these last few enemies completely, but the Half-beasts, already fairly reclusive, considered their part done, and the Humans wanted only to return home after a tiring war in which their enemies had been defeated. With their allies suddenly, in their eyes, abandoning them, the Escaeans were infuriated. The Humans had just up and left, and the Half-beasts, some of which had actually joined the demi-human invaders while others remained neutral until halfway through the war, were no better than the original enemy. Once the orcs had been eliminated, Escaea turned its eyes to its eastern neighbor Salarion. But from the Salarian's eyes, there had been no reason to continue fighting. The demi-human troops left had been rapidly withdrawing, and the Humans had wanted to return to their homes and families after a long period of tiresome battles. The Half-beasts had wanted more or less the same thing, feeling out of place amidst the other cultures and races, and retreated to their tribes in the far eastern corner of Salarion. Some, however, had seen the advancements of technology outside their home and began to integrate themselves carefully into the Human societies. Escaea rallied, and new guns were produced with semi-automatic capabilities--weapons completely new to the battlefield. They fell upon their percieved enemy. Salarion was unaware of the attack until it occurred, and immediately scrambled to put together an army. This wasn't too hard. Salarion's population outnumbered Escaea's, and they were quick to put together a fighting force. Even the Half-beasts began to join in, as the Fay held a higher animosity toward them for the number that had joined the demi-humans in the previous war. Now a new war has begun, and the alliance has been broken.

Rules My game, my rules. But hopefully you're not too upset about it. 1. I will not tolerate godmodding. This includes all things associated with godmodding, such as being a n00b and autohitting.2. You must be literate. This should be a given in this guild. However, what I mean by literate seems to often be different than what other people mean. Here's what I think: Being literate means exhibiting no chatspeak, the ability to use grammar and punctuation in as much of a correct way as possible, and trying to be creative in one's own posts. I don't, that's do not, have a set limit of how much you have to write. We all get writer's block, and sometimes there just isn't much to say. However, do try to give the other players something to work with.3. Try to post often. Seriously. I don't want to be stuck on a scene for days on end because one person hasn't posted. So try to check in every few days, hmm? At least once a week.4. Be polite when OOC, and try to keep OOC to a minimum (in a post by itself, anyway).5. Be sensible when creating your character. You're not Rambo or MacGuyver. Again, this goes back to the first rule.6. PM me your profile. Title your PM "I can't be cool" so that I know you've read the rules. (And no, it's NOT an insult, it's a song title. Very pretty song, too. From Stand Alone Complex.)7. As tempting as one race may be, take a peek at the roster when joining. There needs to be a somewhat balanced amount of races. These rules may be altered as I see fit. Also, here's the layout for character profiles: [Remove any text (not the coding for bold font!) in square brackets from your profile; it's there to give you some guidelines.] Name: [Character name. Try to have a first and last name if possible; if not, it's okay.] Age: [Duh. All races age at the same rate, so there's not going to be any confusion about this, hmm?] Gender: [There'd better not be any confusion about this one.] Race: [Pick one of the three, and nothing else. If anyone wants to be a demi-human... I dunno, we'll see. There's not a huge part for them.] Animal hybrid: [FOR HALF-BEASTS ONLY. Remove this entire option if your character is Human or Fay.] Appearance: [Describe or give a picture/link. Include height, though, so others can know how their character compares to yours in that respect.] Bio: [Actually, entering this as part of the profile is completely optional. If you like, you can hint at the character's bio in the rp.] Extra: [This is here in case I left anything out with my scatterbrained mind.]

Accepted Characters SilverDragonGrrl Name: Jane Pardus Age: 24 Gender:Female Race: Half-beast Animal hybrid: Leopard Appearance: Jane stands about 5'7" tall with an average frame. She has blond hair which, if brushed down, would probably be about jawline or shoulder length, but seems to softly spike backwards naturally. Jane lucked out on eye color; hers are blue, unlike many other feline Half-beasts who have gold eyes. She has fair skin and a little bit of a tan, and is obviously no stranger to physical work judging by her lean build; her muscles were used through work, not exercise. Bio: Jane is originally from one of the feline tribes in the southeastern part of Eranor, one of the huntresses and warriors. She left after seeing the performance of some of the Humans' weapons, although she's still a little uncomfortable in Human society. Extra: Jane carries a short sword and a bow with her, which sets her out a little combined with her usual tunic, pants, and leather boots.

General Setting This is something of a transitional setting in time period, but I've really played around with any and all comparisons to Earth's timeline (in America, at least). Thus, the General Setting post is here. The Fay have just developed semi-automatic weaponry, so their society is beginning to lean toward the late 1800s/very early 1900s. As far as their dress goes, think 1940s and -50s. Humans are still dealing with single-shot pistols and muskets. However, rather than having the fashion of the 18th and 19th centuries, there is more of a "1920s" feel to dress. Half-beasts are still using bows, arrows, and handheld bladed weapons like swords. But, because of their transformation abilities, they have to have clothing that allows for the shift of body structure. This is almost an "Ancient Greece" type of clothing--tunics are common, as are loose pants, but nothing that would get in the way of moving around like togas or dresses. There are also elements of a fantasy-medieval setting, such as jerkins and other leather items of clothing.

Fay The Fay are the inhabitants of Escaea. They are humanoid in appearance, but they're fairer and slightly more streamlined, in a way. There's no such thing as a bulky Fay. While not exactly elves, Fay are elfin in appearance. They have pointed, but not elongated, ears; extra eye colors such as gold and red; tallish, graceful frames; and an inclination for magic. The ability to harness magic is latent in all Fay, although not all Fay learn how to refine or use this talent. Most that do specialize in only one type of magery (fire, water, earth, air, healing, or telekinesis). Socially, Fay hold themselves to be the superior of the three main races (four, if you count the demi-humans in the Barrens). While they'd rather not have to associate with the other races at all, Fay will rather deal with Humans than Half-beasts, viewing the latter as little better than savages or wild animals. They view Humans more along the lines of irritating monkeys. The Fay do have reasons other than the use of magic for thinking themselves superior to the other races, though. They do have the most advanced technology, and are very close to the revelation of using electricity as a power and light source--the world's first Thomas Edison figure will be experimenting soon, and may very well get results faster than Earth's actual inventor through magic. The Fay, and everyone else, don't know this, though, so let's not spoil it for them. Because of their halfhearted entrance into the defense against the demi-humans, along with the fact that some actually joined the ranks of the demi-humans, Half-beasts are looked upon as something akin to vermin by the Fay. Attacks by mixed ranks of demi-humans and the few Half-beasts who joined them were not taken well by the Escaeans, and the withdrawal of the Half-beast troops while the Fay were hunting down the last of the demi-humans added insult to injury. Fay look down upon the Half-beasts, thinking them unintelligent and savage. Humans are more of a political enemy of the Fay at this point. While they rallied against the demi-humans with the Fay, the major race of Salarion also withdrew before the Escaeans considered the war over. This was percieved as abandonment, and with their other ally retreating as well, the Fay probably took it worse than they should have. They see the Humans as underdeveloped Fay, as messy, dirty beings without the important ability to even have a chance at using magic and without the knowhow to keep up technologically. Most Fay families consist of parents and one or two children. Many families have only one child, so most Fay don't have siblings but will develop a sibling bond with a peer from another family.

Humans Humans are one of the two inhabitants of Salarion. They have no latent ability in magic, but are adaptable and numerous. There are also a variety of builds and frames; Humans can be anywhere from short and bulky to tall and skinny, and any other sort of combination. Humans live mostly in the western regions of Salarion, in the plains and near Tyrevias, a forest that grows on the border between the two countries. There are two mixed cities: the capital and Sylvantur, to the east. About three-fourths of the Half-beasts have stayed closer to their eastern home, so the capital Indul is predominantly Human. The previous war has been the first in which females were part of the defending forces actually fighting on the battlefield. This is still new to a large percentage of the Human populace, and there are all sorts of opinions on the matter--some support the idea, others oppose it, and others are still getting used to it. There is a growing number of female soldiers, though. Human technology is lagging behind the Fay, still. While Humans have numbers and more solid bodies, they still have single-shot pistols and muskets, and occasionally bladed weapons and older projectile weapons, such as bows and arrows and the rare throwing blade. Humans view the Fay as a dangerous force, and as an ostentatious, self-absorbed, and self-righteous people. Fay magic, while not an entirely foreign concept to Humans, is still a frightening concept for soldiers. The sudden attack by their former allies has spurred an animosity toward the Fay, as well. Half-beasts are viewed as a primitive people by about half of the human population, mostly because of their weaponry and culture, which often has no concept of personal space depending on the animal species. The rest of the Human population either doesn't have much of an opinion of their neighbors or supports them--though usually the supporters even consider Half-beasts a primitive culture.

Half-Beasts Half-beasts are the second race living in Salarion. They actually look entirely Human, until they transform, of course. All Half-beasts have a second, anthropomorphic form, a hybrid mix of animal and humanoid. Until they transform, they look like a Human, for the most part--some have an eye color of their bestial form unnatural for humans, such as yellow, red, or orange--although their behavior can be slightly different and often influenced by their animal form. Physical build is also often influenced by the animal form. The majority of Half-beasts live in and around Eranor, the forest in the eastern corner of Salarion, in tribes. These tribes are based mostly on species or animal family; while there may be a tribe which entirely lupine, there may be another made of a mixture of dingo, wolf, wild dog, and coyote. A few tribes are so incredibly mixed that the animal forms have nothing at all in common other than what general type they are. For example: a tribe of bears, boars, rabbits, apes, and so on have nothing much in common except for the fact that they're all mammalian. The tribes can be very territorial, and there are often small scuffles that work themselves out in what is usually a month or less. The canine and feline factions in the south forest are known to bicker, as are the reptilian and avian ones in the north reaches. The insectoids in the southwest keep mostly to themselves, and the remaining mammalians in the middle have a shaky peace that will sometimes teeter and result in internal fighting. There are, however, two cities here. Sylvantur, on the western edge of the forest, is an integrated city of about 25% Humans and 75% Half-beasts. It's a center of trade with the rest of the country, very merchant-based. There is also Castosa in the easternmost corner of Eranor, where the forest meets the mountains and river that make up the eastern border of Salarion. This is an entirely Half-beast town, a mercantile neutral zone for the tribes where trading and negotiating is done. Some Half-beasts have left Eranor in favor of the progression of Human society--only about one-fourth or less of the total population. Those who have left to live elsewhere usually have a viewpoint that supports the new weaponry and technology the Humans (and, grudgingly, the Fay) have been making; the Half-beast community still depends upon steel and arrows for their battles, and some have begun to realize that guns are advantageous if a little foreign. The Fay, to Half-beasts, seem like delicate, strange things which incorporate a magic so foreign that it seems unnatural. While the Half-beasts do have a form of magic in their transformations, it's a much more limited, personal, and in their view, natural form of magic, driven by stress, anger, adrenaline, and so forth. Half-beasts don't just transform at any point--they need a catalyst which usually comes in the form of a heightened emotion or state, and then a shift can be triggered. Magic activated at any time is a strange concept for a people whose bodies are directly related to the magic they use. Humans are viewed as a confusing, but more understandable creatures. Some Half-beasts actually pity them for their lack of an animal form. Few of them really understand the lack of physical or eye contact, or Human fashions, which are more restrictive and somewhat more gender-oriented than their own. Though their are variations in cultures between the Half-beast tribes, there is usually a balance of power between the sexes--some tribes are even matriarchal, the opposite of the Humans' society. Half-beasts find Humans curious, even funny, and some are fascinated by their odd neighbors.

Fay Magic Yes, there do have to be a few rules for magic, just so I can make sure people won't abuse it like buttmunches. Now, onto the magery! Basic Rules of Magic1. Magic uses up a lot of energy. Most mages use magic as a last resort, trump card, finisher, or an initial crippling blow, although this is discouraged since it can be a risky move. The smaller the action, the less energy used. 2. Because of rule #1, extraordinary feats of magery cannot be achieved by one mage, I.E. a nuclear explosion, moving part of a mountainside, etc. Trying things of this calibur would kill a lone Fay mage, and would be difficult even for a dozen mages. 3. Magic has a personal nature, which makes it a bit hard to synchronize with other mages. This can be done, but the Fay involved would need to be experienced to get really good results. 4. A mage will only use one type of magic; it isn't an easy thing to learn. Being able to use more than one is so rare, it's completely unheard of. Fire One of the most commonly known (by ear, not by practice) magics. Fire is just what it sounds like--flame. Whether for lighting a candle or shooting a jet out of one's hand, fire is a very difficult element to control once it's sparked. Fire can only be sparked up close to the mage's body, no more than about five feet in any direction. However, it can be hurled to further distances in the form of jets or fireballs. Usually, this element is a normal red-orange color, but some Fay have been able to change the colors to blue, green, and in very rare cases, violet. Water Water is one of the lesser-used elements because of the user's need to have a source on hand. While it is possible to pull water out of humid air, the energy expended defeats the original purpose of having water on hand. Most mages who specialize in water will carry a waterskin or other form of container filled with a managable amount of water with them. This element encompasses ice as well. Water can be instantly frozen by a mage who knows how to do so, and can become incredibly lethal. Earth Earth is one of the less energy-expending magics, surprisingly. It's also very useful, as it's abundant. You can't go anywhere other than the open sea without having dirt or rock under your feet or towering somewhere in the distance. Because of the abundance, mages specializing in in earth magic are common. A lot of earth moving and manipulation is achieved through physical movement of the entire body: stomping and moving the arms is common. Air/Electricity Earth's abundance is second only to air. The least energy-expending of all the magics and the most common route for mages, air and electricity are quick, split-second magics controlled often through physical movement of the arms. Healing Healing magic uses up energy like people breathe air. Though incredibly useful, it's also hard to master because of its expenses. Some healing is easier than others--for example, a gash would be easier to fix than a broken bone, because the bone has to be set first. For the most part, though, the body will direct the magic itself, as it would heal on its own in any case. The healing itself is what expends so much energy. However, most of this magic is used to lessen the severity of major wounds, not cure small ones, which is why it often takes so much energy away from the user. Telekinesis Telekinesis does use up quite a bit of energy, since it involves putting kinetic energy into something that was either previously not moving or moving in another direction. Telekinetics also have a bit of empathic magic abilities, but nothing so sophisticated as psionics--minds are incredibly complicated, and hard to actually wander around in.
