Shanghai was, as he liked to put it, on a mission. On a mission to tell others of Tisho's cause, and recruit them into his ranks, a task that was his and his alone. Once dismissed from his leader's chambers, he immediately set off for the place where he had first met his love, Aijou. She'd join him, he knew it. There was no way that she couldn't! They loved each other, and she'd want to be with him, right?
"Aijou?" He called, scanning the area for her bright-pink fur. One of the advantages to loving a pink tocou was that they were always easy to find.

Shanghai was lucky, for the pink girl in question was indeed nearby, but just out of view. She had been laying carefully within a bed of pastel-pink flowers, enjoying their beauty as she watched her surroundings. It was bliss, to be exact. She wouldn't guess what she was in for, however, even after she heard the male calling for her.
"Shanghai!" Her clear voice rang out, and the pink Tocou weaved into view without warning and nuzzled the side of his neck affectionately. "How good it it to see you! Did you come looking for me?" She asked, looking very pleased at his coming. A faint scent of flowers still clung to her, even as she moved to sit down to face him.

Shanghai smiled and nuzzled her in return, "Well there you are!" He laughed playfully, "It's great to see you too. And yes, I was looking for you." He nodded, thinking for a moment about how he should word his request.
"There is a tocou named Tisho, and he has plans, big plans." He started, going over every word in his head before saying it, "Plans for power, and a better world where we're all united under his rule." He nodded again, that was probably the nicest way he could put it. He didn't feel that she'd approve of the part that involved war and fighting to achieve this goal.
"I have joined with him, and I was hoping you would with me."

A moment's pause hinted to her unease to what he was saying, and even longer since she was trying to fully grasp what he meant. A look of confusion finally settled on her delicate features, and she tilted her head to a side as she studied the male in front of her.
"Shanghai, this guy doesn't sound like someone you should be with. He seems like a bad influence...why would you want to be under someone's rule? As we are now, we have freedom to do as we please. We don't need power or...ruling!" She smiled, despite herself, unaware of how serious he was and how important the situation was. She didn't believe something like this could get off the ground, or that anyone would help such a cause.
"And plus, doesn't that seem a little broken to you? Is that all he said? He can't just claim to rule us and do so."
Her little speech wasn't encouraging to his request.

"Well, since I'm helping him out now, he'll give me a position of power once this is all settled." He said smugly, "Sure WE don't need it, but not all tocou's are nice, and some of them do terrible things, and who stops them? Nobody. If we had a ruler, he could send someone to handle those tocous so that they aren't causing trouble anymore."
Honestly, Shanghai didn't care about any of that, but he did want power. A world where everyone was equal... He didn't like it, not when the weak ones were in his way.
"No, he said some more, but that's the main stuff." He admitted, "And why not? He is powerful, it wouldn't be wise to oppose him."
If they didn't have such a mutual love for each other, that could be taken as a threat...

Unfortunately, it was taking slightly offensive either way. It was a bit threatening to her too, and her cheerful expression finally drained away until she looked almost scared for him, eyes wide.
"Shanghai...you aren't serious, are you? You honestly want what this guy wants? You want that power? Don't you know, when those bad Tocous do things, they get their rightful punshiment from the good? We don't need that, things take care of themselves in our society right now!"
She hadn't realized in the beginning, but no no no. This was wrong, he was going down a bad path, and seemed convinced it was okay. "No, I'm sorry. Powerful or not, I can't side with a cause so...so uncaring! Don't you see that? It would be better to go for the good cause, and lose to him, than to fight for a thing like this! Shanghai, don't go through with this..."

Shanghai was shocked when she spoke again, "I am serious. Aijou, don't you think that the world we live in could be improved? That there are flaws in our current way of life? Tisho can fix all that. WE can fix all that, if we work together to achieve it."
No, nothing she said would or could change his mind, for Tisho had blinded him terribly to reason, and now he only saw the path he was on, the others were all shrouded in darkness... Darkness that even he could not penetrate.
"Aijou... You mean to resist this? Resist me? I will not fight you, but I cannot promise that the others will do the same. I don't want you to get hurt." A last offer, if she didn't accept now, he'd have to leave her as a lost cause... The last thing he wanted to do.

The pink Tocou shivered and stared at the male in front of her, eyes wide and filled only with worry for him. "Flaws are what make life interesting...and nothing this guy can do would be able to fix them, Shanghai. He would make them worse. Why, why don't you see this?" She asked, voice shaking a little as she realized what was happening.
She was trapped, so much so that she couldn't even speak for a moment as conflicting ideas and feelings fought inside her. Lose him, but fight for the good of everyone...or stay with him, and hurt innocents for a terrible cause. She winced, eyes sad as she slowly looked up at him.
"I'm sorry..."
That was all she had to say to get him to understand.

Shanghai couldn't understand why Aijou wouldn't side with him, but he had to move on... He couldn't linger for so long on a lost cause, even if he did love her.
"No, Aijou. I am sorry." He sighed and turned his back on her, dashing away as fast as he could. He couldn't bear to be near her anymore, it was only a reminder of how they could not be together any more.
