Just wanted to say that if you're a hardcore ascender, this month's item-of-the-month, the Libram of Candy Heart Summoning, is fantastic. It gives you a skill that you can use in hardcore, and the candy hearts you can summon are very useful. It's not as good as the Tome of Snowcone Summoning, but getting that will run you tens of millions of meat.
In case you don't know, items-of-the-month are available from Mr. Store in Market Square, and cost 1 Mr. Accessory. Mr. Accessories are obtained by either donating $10 or buying them from the mall for meat (currently about 4.5 million). After the month is over, you can get the items-of-the-month from the mall, though usually for a bit more meat.

Except if you're talking about the comma chameleon which is currently sitting at 1 million below the Mr. Accessory price.

Well, yes. It depends on the usefulness of the item and its availability, too.
Items that are reusable -- equipment -- tend to stay pretty cheap. For example, look at the Jewel-Eyed Wizard Hat and the Pilgrim Shield, which are both running about 5M. The shield is actually more expensive, despite being newer, because it is more useful (it gives extra experience per fight, which is considered very important).
Items that are one-shot only -- familiars and skills, which cannot be traded once the player has used them -- tend to eventually get expensive simply because the supply wanes as players use them. The Comma Chameleon in specific suffers from being pretty useless, though it is very cool.
Personally, I think that the Libram of Candy Heart Summoning is going to do pretty well in the mall. It isn't going to get as expensive as the Tome of Snowcone Summoning did, because people are buying tons of librams to sell later and therefore the supply is too high, but the hearts are extremely useful in hardcore and thus most hardcore players will want the skill.
