Yeah, sort of out of place in a Japanese guild, but the biggest Korea guild on Gaia is still pretty slow, and I noticed a lot of people here were taking Korean, so...
I was wondering if anyone had any good websites or books I could read to help me with my Korean. I can write and read it, though with questionable penmanship, and I have a Korean Mama that can help me with stuff I don't understand...but...let's face it, she doesn't know how to teach me a language.
She's always just spoken the language and never really thought about it. Like, she puts particles together with nouns and calls that a noun.
Well, anyways, I thought I'd put in my two cents here, and if anyone else can, that'd be lovely.

Anyone want to verify or add to this list?

Korean is wierd eek It's the only Asian language that I really cannot recognize by ear. It sounds too much like a cross betwwen Mandarin and Japanes so I can't recognize it when I hear it.

I know what Korean is when I hear it, most of the time anyway. I used to have a best friend who was Korean and spoke in Korean to her family sometimes. Plus, I've been mistaken as Korean every now and then and spoken in Korean too. It's ...annoying, kinda. But then again, I don't look Japanese. i look either Korean or Chinese. So I'm told.

lol, when I hear Korean, I either think Chinese, Japanese, or Korean... Since I speak Chinese and am learning Japanese, I would just guess if it's not the two, then it's Korean. But sometimes, I get it wrong too since they're just talking too fast and the words are all jumbled up together. I actually learned some Korean from my friend. Like, how to read the words, and some phrases.
The poll option says annyeong haseyo.
Too bad I still can't talk in Korean. crying

As my plan of learning all the major east-asian languages someday, Korean is on my list of languages to learn. Unfortunately, Japanese was my base first....and the most logical solution in my opinion was to start learning Chinese next. Grammatically, Korean and Japanese share a lot, but the writing system are totally different (that alone will take some time, still having to use phonetic spelling with Korean until I hunker down and learn how to read and write the characters). But, I love chinese characters in general, and going from Japanese to Chinese wasn't all too hard (except whenever I see kanji I want to think in Japanese grammar style...not in English which Chinese more represents).
For some reason I sometimes have to listen closely at Korean because it could sound a bit like Japanese at times. I had Taiwanese/Chinese friends so I can always point out Chinese and Japanese in spoken conversation, but it takes a bit more listening in Korean.
@ kiramekiyuri: Yeah, I do that too a lot since I can distinguish Chinese and Japanese language easily.

I'm Korean, most of the Korean students I know at my school are all taking Japanese though. o_o
