hi hi,
As I mentioned not long ago I've decided to embark on my first fanfiction, I've only written original stories for the longest time so this is new territory for me.
I am writing about a game called, Rule of the Rose, which is a twisted horror/survival game about two girls who fall in love by exchanging letters through a window. I decided to write more of the tale based on those letters and some of the dairies and newspaper articles found throughout the game.
I've been writing up a storm as I described how the main characters ended up kidnapped by a strange man and locked away in his basement. Then I got to the letters and planned to describe how their relationship evolved through the main character when I noticed something wrong with the letters. There were not enough of them and some things were missing. The first letter called the main character, Joshua, but they have never spoken before and the girl corrects her in the next letter telling the girl she is Jennifer. I have no idea how Wendy, the girl outside of the window, found out that Jennifer was being called Joshua, but that was easily fixed.
The problem really occurs with the other letters. It is as if the game designers only gave us part of the story and do not explain exactly how these girls fell in love, yet it is very clear that they did as they confess their love for one another later in the same letters and are even shown about to kiss in a rose garden after escaping.
Now I'm a stickler for details and do not like lingering off the path of a story already told. So the question is do I create more letters in hopes that I keep the same depth that the creators planned or continue on using the original letters and not worry so much about the little details?
