Mercedes whistled gaily to herself, hands a blur over the tiny table she had erected by the side of the road. It was easy to be optimistic--the occasional tourists wandering by her little booth had provided a source of income, and the tourists were generally so amused or disturbed by her demeanor that not a one had made a scene. Even Ebe, her petulant and pessimistic Gobuzz, seemed to be enjoying herself.

Yet another gullible innocent--this time a plump, middle-aged madame and her equally plump Meowth--was at that very moment watching her hands fly over the three porcelain cups, trying to follow the one that hid the golden ball. Mercedes smirked, shifting the cups one way, and then another... all an elaborate hoax, of course. She had slipped the little golden ball into her sleeve over a minute ago. The woman and her Meowth simply couldn't win.

Quickly, she clapped all three cups into a line, crossed her arms over her chest, and smirked at the woman.

"Take your pick, ma'am, I know you know it's there, you've got eyes like a Seviper, even if you haven't that's a one in three chance of sheer dumb luck, sheer dumb luck, ma'am..." Mercedes droned on, hardly seeming to take a breath as she spat out the constant flow of words. Ebe's glow flickered softly, throwing bright glints of light from the highly polished cups. The Gobuzz was clinging firmly to her trainer's shoulder--just the other day Mercedes had had to escape from a customer who had caught on to her cheating. It was easier to cling to the girl than try to keep up, so cling she did.

"...That one," the woman finally chose, pointing to the center cup. Mercedes smirked, revealing the cup and its contents. Nothing. The woman pouted, handing over a few coins before moving away, the Meowth lolling along behind her. Mercedes snickered, slipping the coins into a pocket and giving the cups another experimental twirl across the tabletop.

"There's another fool parted from their money, Ebe," the girl explained, meanwhile slipping the golden ball out of her sleeve and back onto the table. "And if there's a fool born every minute, well, I'd say we have it made."

"Go, buzz. Gogo."

"Precisely." Another smirk from Mercedes as she glanced up and down the street, keeping a lookout for potential customers... or for anyone that might recognize her from yesterday. She winced a little at the memory--more ashamed of her own clumsiness than of the indignity of being chased off by her own customers--but the memory was soon forgotten, replaced again by the constant prattle of her own voice.

"Step right up, ladies and gentlemen and pokefolk, step right up, don't by shy, one in three's a winner, just takes a quick eye..."

Angel walked around Smallwave with her bag, saying goodbye to the people she knew. She was going to leave her home today, and she wasn't planning to comeback after a while. Walking along a road, Angel saw a girl at a table with a bee-like pokemon she didn't reconize. As she watched a woman with a Meowth lose the game, her Pidgey, Flyer, bursted out of his pokeball and flew around Angel's head. "Pidg! Pidg!" He cried. Angel sighed and ignored his actions as she stepped over to the table. "Hello." Angel said to the girl. "I would like to try."

Adrian walks out of his house, thinking about owning a pokemon. He doubts he'll have one since he missed the new trainer introduction. He notices the people playing the cup game, and watches.

Mercedes grinned charmingly at the girl, flashing white teeth in the sunlight. Gobuzz hummed softly, her eyes following the flapping Pidgey with mild interest. The bee pokemon buzzed her wings at Flyer a few times, perhaps trying to get his attention, or just to get him to stop making noise, who knows.

"Sure thing, love, it's easy as pie... Here's how it works. See the golden ball? I put it under a cup, and when I move the cups, all you have to do is keep track of where the ball is. If you guess right, you get five coins... if I guess right, I get three coins. See, the odds are in your favor, right?"

Mercedes held the golden ball up between thumb and forefinger, making sure Angel saw it before hiding it beneath the cup in the center. She started sliding the cups in a confusing, twisting figure-eight pattern, all the while keeping her eyes on Angel.

"So, what's your name, sweetheart? You from around these parts? It's a nice area... lot of sunshine and trees, lot of pokemon. I see you've got one of your own, even. Has the little thing got a name?" Mercedes sounded genuinely interested and sincere, though really, she was just looking for ways to distract Angel. Gobuzz flickered her light helpfully--the bright glare from her tail might make it harder to look at the shiny cups, and that would be a distraction, too.

Tossing about a couple of coins, Tatchi placed a handful of them on the table. Grinning at the girl, he spoke; obviously, she had ommited the fact that the game was rigged. "That should be enough to play just one game" he added, " which is all I need."

i walk away, knowing that the ball had fallen off the table. i look at the pokemon, thinking how great it would be to get one. I head out of town and walk into the forest.

"Ah-ah, one at a time, good sir, one a time," Mercedes answered Tatchi, flashing him a broad smile, still switching the cups about over the tabletop. She wasn't oblivious to his arrogant tone, but it didn't seem to bother her. After all, most of the men who had approached her had been very boastful and cocky. It gave her some sense of satisfaction to cheat them of their money, if only to wipe the smug looks from their faces.

Ebe switched her attention to Tatchi briefly, wings buzzing a sharp warning in Mercedes' ear. Even if her trainer was certain of winning, the Gobuzz didn't fancy being run out of town... again.

I walk back into town, moving to the other side of the forest to make sure no one finds my area. I get close to town when i notice a bagon following me. "go back, someone might try to catch you" it gets closer to me, and stands next to my leg. "you want to stay with me, don't you?..."

(yes, i'm getting this pokemon in a wierd way, and it's going to be like pikachu, never getting in a pokeball)

"I'm Angel, yes, and his name is Flyer. It's bad, but he responds to it." Angel said as she dug out some coins from her bag and placed it on the table. Flyer the Pidgey cocked his head at the clinking noise the coins made, and swooping down, he took one of the coins with his beak. "Hey!" Angel said in protest, still watching the cup and blinking at the lights from the other girl's pokemon. "What pokemon is that?" Angel asked as she swatted Flyer, making him drop the coin. With a pout, he landed on her shoulder and made screeching noises and glares at the the strange pokemon. With flapping of wings added, he was obviously warning the pokemon to stop the flashing.

"A lovely name," Mercedes told her with another charming smile. She glanced at the coins from the corner of her eye, smile growing a litle wider as the Pidgey spat out the coin it had stolen. What would a pokemon want with money, anyway? Or perhaps the bird was less gullible than its trainer. Mercedes stifled a giggle at the thought.

"Oh, Ebe here? She's a Gobuzz. You don't find them around here normally. The man I acquired her from said he found her in Volt Forest. I've no idea where that is, I forgot to ask before he left." She didn't mention that she had won Ebe from the man in a game of skill and luck, nor that she had won by cheating. Of course, Ebe remembered as much, but she showed no signs of caring.

"But that was some time ago. I've been stuck in these parts for far too long. Still, not a bad place to be, if you don't feel the wanderlust too keenly." While she had Angel distracted with her rambling, Mercedes quickly slipped the ball into her sleeve--maybe the girl would notice, but it was a remarkably fast and subtle action, and after watching the cups for so long, goodness only knew that Angel would probably be a bit dizzy.

Ebe snickered softly, glowing all the more brightly at Flyer, a few crackles of electricity snaking around her abdomen. It wasn't a threat--she just wanted to irritate the other pokemon. With an audible clack, Mercedes set the three cups back into place, then folded her arms across her chest.

"Now here I am, about to lose my hard-earned winnings, I'm sure you know exactly where it is after all. I must be getting slower after all these years, doesn't take much to pull one over on me these days..."

"I don't, really. And Ebe seeming nice." Angel said. Turning to Flyer, she asked, "What do you think? Any guesses?" Flyer narrowed his eyes, and instead of picking a cup, flew upwards. "Flyer?... No!" Angel realized what the Pidgey was going to do too late. With a twirl, the Pidgey went into a steep dive, screeching with talons outstreached and heading for the girl and the Gobuzz.

((I might need to go soon.))

Mercedes blinked as Flyer took off, squinting up into the sunlight to see where the little pokemon had flown off to. It wasn't until Angel yelled that she realized exactly what the Pidgey was up to... and even then, her response was more of a panic reaction than a well thought-out plan. With an alarmed squeak, the girl covered her face with her arms... unfortunately, the flailing of her arms caused the little golden ball to go sailing right out of her sleeve. Adding injury to insult, the shiny bauble bopped Angel right between her eyes--not hard enough to hurt, but now Angel would surely know she had been cheated.

Ebe buzzed angrily, electricity crackling around her as she landed on the table, a warning to Flyer. Mercedes would have told the bee pokemon to protect her, but of course, she was too busy trying to save her own hide to think of anything smart like that.

I jump between the 2 pokemon, staring at the Pidgey. Even when it gets close, I stand still. I don't even think about the Ebe making sparks behind me.
