Disclaimer: This is one of my first crossover fics. This fic is a Saikano/Gundam Crossover with a whole of references and stuff like that. I don’t own Saikano or Gundam Seed or whatever Gundam Show or any show or characters that I may reference or may appear in this fic. If I did, well, you can probably imagine what would or could happen, and it wouldn’t be entirely liked. I’m just writing a fic.

Mini-Summary: Curaia Hikaren is living without much worry for the future and the world around her until war comes crashing into her world. Then transformed into a weapon against her will, she must retain her humanity and who she is.

Saigun: These are the Days

-----------------------
“Baka you’re late.” “Shuuji, stop being so mean to Chise.”
“Gomenasai.”
“We’ll be late. Hurry up!” This was a typical day at school, Shuuji would always pick on Chise and Akemi would pick her up and help her out of trouble. Chise was a very shy and clumsy person and Akemi and Shuuji were open and athletic and I would be in the middle of it, every so often getting into the trouble myself.
“Curia you should smack Shuuji around once in a while.” Akemi smiled, more of a smirk, her hair was a like a boys cut: really short but still girly none the less. “What do you say?
he deserves it.”
I looked away hoping she’d drop the subject, not that I don’t want to smack him, I just didn’t feel like talking about that at the moment. Curaia began to pull away from the others and turned around to face the group once she reached the top of the hill, the school wasn’t too much further, on one side of the stone wall was scenery and the other side was the road, so while she was waiting Curaia adjusted the pleated grey school skirt she wore, it went to a little bit past halfway to her knees and she wore a blouse with a green tie or ribbon under the blouse collar and the school emblem was on the left short sleeve.
“You’re all too slow; we’re going to be late at this rate.” I put on a pouty face and tied back my medium dark brown hair into a low ponytail as to get my uneven bangs out of my face, my hair was layerd and my part is slanted above the right eye and I don’t have any bangs like the others do, but I’m content with my look. “Come on.”
“Did anyone tell you you’re really impatient?” Shuuji snapped from halfway up the hill. “Do you have a hot date or something? Is that it?”
“Look she’s blushing.” Akemi teased.
“I’m not blushing; I’m getting red from standing in the sun from you taking to long. I’m getting sunburned.”
I turned away and began to make my way to the school gate without them, I’m not that patient, and I’m itching to get there before the bell rings so I won’t be late. I don’t mind school, it can get boring, but what more can you expect from it?
------------------------------
“Ohayo Guzaimasu.” A female teacher walked into our classroom. She had short black hair barely past her shoulders and brownish eyes.
“Ohayo.”
The class responded, with different tones and pitches and some even sounded really tired, others more awake. “I hope everyone completed their summer homework….” With that the teacher started on another lecture, first period was always math, not one of Curaia’s favorite subjects. As she was given a worksheet by the teacher she looked over the paper and simply turned her head and looked out the window, taking in the sunlight and staring at the sky, which was partially cloudy so the sky was still visible. ‘I wonder…if that new CD is out…I should get it once if it’s out…’ After staring out the window for about ten minutes, Curaia looked back at the math worksheet that was on her desk.‘Oh yeah there’s a worksheet to work on…let’s see…take the number from the left and multiply it by the number in the other set of parenthesis and carry that down.’ “Curia…” A soft voice came from my right, I looked up from my paper and Chise was looking over at me. “We can work in partners…um…will you work with me?”
“Sure.” The brown haired teen smiled and nodded and brought her desk close to Chise’s and they both started working on the problem. “DIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNNGGG” That’s the bell.

Or nothing did happen…until that day….

“Gym was hard…I’m so glad the day is over.” Curaia replied as she walked out of the school with her friends, it was the end of the day, a long day of work and not much else.

“What’s so hard about track and field?” Shuuji asked with an annoyed tone in his voice.

“Not everyone is a natural born track runner like we were in middle school.” Akemi responded, Chise was walking next to her and I was walking next to her, Shuuji was on the other side of Akemi.

“Hey Curia, We’re all going shopping, you wanna go with us?” Akemi asked.

‘She always called me by my nickname ‘Curia’ even if my full name was Curaia, not a lot of people address me as Curaia.’ Directly after Akemi asked for me to go with her and a few of our friends she partially jumped on my back and pulled me back. “Akemi…hey…”

“Uh…Akemi-Chan…” Chise’s voice was very soft and light, she wasn’t unable to be heard it’s that she doesn’t really speak up for herself. She’s a very shy and clumsy person, but very cute at times. She had very short hair above her shoulders, but it complimented her shy nature.

“Do you have a hot date this time?” Shuuji would always tease, anyone even Akemi, but he would be reward with remarks from her and I, he had messy hair, very very light hair with dark eyes.

“You’re persistent aren’t you? Is there something you’re not telling us?” I simply turned around and said my own sarcastic remark, a little smirk on my face as well. “If you have to know, I don’t have a date waiting.”

“That’s because you can’t get a date isn’t it?” He snapped back.

“Actually I have to pick up my cousin from school.” I felt very insulted, a real reason, he can’t say I’m lying. “Maybe I can catch up later.”

“What’s your cousin’s name?” He persisted; he didn’t seem to believe me.

“You don’t trust me do you?” This made me angry, I tied my hair back again into a ponytail and started walked down the road, but turned back to lay down a final remark. “His name is Minoru and he’s a 2nd year middle school student.”

Curaia left the large high school and walked out the tall grey school gates and walked down the hill to a slightly more level sidewalk and made her way to the nearby middle school. To her right were some buildings, but mostly scenery and buildings were in the distance, not much to her right, but a wall with more ground and such behind it and possibly a neighborhood. Her blouse which was light tint of white with a little light green was light and moved a little in the autumn breeze and so did her grey skirt, it wasn’t too hot it was actually very cool and she turned a corner and the middle school was on the right towards the end of the street. Hokkaido was a looked very peaceful and had it’s own kind of beauty to the brown haired girl, she didn’t really worry about a lot so she took in the sights every so often. She smiled a light smile, Curaia didn’t mind picking up her cousin at all, it was actually kind of fun, she soon made her way through the middle school gates which were open being as they were going to let out soon, but as soon as she stepped inside the gates, the school bell rang.

“Dah! Stupid bell, so loud.” I just blinked a couple times and slightly giggled, I used to go to school here too. It seems not too long ago that I attended here; looking on the windows and brick building brings back many fond memories. I let out a sigh as I watched the little middle school children walk by; I was looking for one person: My cousin. It was a maybe fifteen or twenty minutes before I heard him. “What should I eat when I get home…hmmm?”

“Cousin!”

A little boy ran over from the crowd of children walking out, he had a short cut hair, it might not be considered a mushroom or rice bowl cut because his bangs were too short, and his hair was a nice shade of black and his eyes were a deep brown. He wore a white t-shirt with his school emblem which resembled the emblem of my school which kind of looked like an upside down bird: The bird was gold and the background was black, the school jacket was a navy blue and the pants matched too. He came over and gave me a little hug and smiled. “You did come.”

“Of course I did.” I smiled and giggled a little, it wasn’t a problem picking up my cousin, in fact, and I liked it. I got to see my cousin and we got to hang out and catch up, even if it was every so often, he was also the closest relative outside of my immediate family.

“Alright, let’s go.” Then I leaned down and poked him in the stomach and messed up his hair a little and smiled, he twitched a little and jumped back slightly, laughing a little in the process.

“That was unnecessary.” The little boy smiled up at me and slightly chuckled, he enjoyed spending time with me and I in turn had a good time with him.

“Blah Blah Blah…” Curaia giggled and smiled, walking out of the middle school grounds with her cousin, he stuck close by, and he came up to her shoulders even if he was only twelve and Curaia going on sixteen. “How was your day in school Minoru?”

“It was great; my group got a good grade in cooking today. We just had to make a simple batch of cookies and it was fun. In gym, we got do play soccer.”

“Not much happened with my school today, the only big thing is that in gym we’re doing track and field and I was one of the good long jumpers.” Curaia sighed a little before looking back at her middle school cousin. “I hate track and field…for the most part.”

“Curia!!!”

“Hey cousin…who’s that girl up there running toward you?” Minoru asked his older cousin, he had only met Akemi a few times, despite Akemi being a good friend of Curaia’s.

“That’s Akemi.” Before Curaia could finish her sentence, Akemi had already made her way to where the long brown haired teen was standing with Minoru and she grabbed her friends’ hand.

“Come on, we’re taking you and your cousin shopping. We’re all going to Sapporo.” Michiko said, she was another friend of mine and so was Nori, Take, Atushi, Seiko, Rie, Maura, and Shuuji to my delight and a few others.

“Where’s Chise?” I looked around and true to what I said, the shy clumsy member of our friends wasn’t present. “Did she get sick?”

“She cancelled it and said she couldn’t go...” There was something in his voice that seemed wrong, but... “We should go...” Shuuji turned his back to the group and we all set out for Sapporo.

This would be the first day I knew something was different…

“Hey Maura…how does this sleeveless blouse look?” Rie, the dark hair girl with glasses member of our group turned to Maura, she had a very light shade of brown hair, and it was more a redish brown.

“I think it suits you, blue is a very good color for you.” Rarura nodded and turned to me. “You find anything Curaia?” I was looking at some t-shirts and assorted pants and clothing. “What kind of t-shirt you looking for?”

“Not much…hey! Look at this one.” Curaia smiled as she held up a light blue s-shirt that had ‘I heart noodles’ on it.

“You really are interesting…”Seiko said.

“I am am I?” Curaia looked over at another rack of shirts. “I like this sleeveless light blue blouse too…”

“Take what are you getting?” Atsushi asked his friend, Atsushi had relatively neat hair, gelled back a little while Take had very messy hair, it was longer than most of the guy’s hair, and even Akemi’s hair.

“Getting a gift for my girl friend Yukari, we had a little spat, I’m hoping she’ll forgive me.” Take finally picked up a nice little pendant, Shuuji was mostly looking around where his group was, not really taking too much interest in what the others were talking about.

“You’re very sentimental Take…” Nori groaned and moved to wear Shuuji and Curaia’s cousin Minoru were, Nori had short hair like Shuuji and Minoru, but his was slightly longer and he didn’t have a girlfriend.

“Your Curia’s cousin huh?” Shuuji stopped looking at whatever he was looking at and bent over to look at the little boy that had been brought along. “How do you put up with her?”

“She’s my cousin and she’s a very fun person,” Minoru pushed past Shuuji and just looked at the rack of shirts for something he liked. All of the boys were looking at mostly jackets and assorted items associated with shirts or jackets. “You can’t really describe her…maybe unpredictable, but it’s ok because she’s a nice person.”

“Sounds like Curia we know.” Nori responded, he found the little conversation between the middle school boy and his good friend was amusing, he even chuckled.

“No one really calls her by her full name ‘Curaia’” The middle school student laughed and then smiled. “Almost everyone calls her ‘Curia,’ It’s kind of funny.”

“Hey Shuuji, are you harassing my cousin?” Curaia came over to the boys, mostly to see what shirts or something she could get her older brothers or maybe one for her to wear to bed. “I’ll get you for it later…”

Out of the blue, a loud horn rang through the city of Sapporo and in the distant skyline, dark airplane like bombers were approaching, streams of black specks were falling from them: Bombs. This wasn’t a drill, it was a real air raid. .

“Minoru!” Curaia grabbed the hand of her younger cousin and ran after everyone else, Shuuji and Akemi being track stars from middle, were ahead of everyone and Curaia was one of the next most athletic in the group, but stayed a little towards the back to make sure everyone was close by and so she could watch her cousin. The group of teens ran out of the stores to get a better look at the approaching threat, they looked up at the sky and saw black bombers floating in the sky and string of big blackish grey bombs falling from the their bomb bays.

“They’re bombers!” Minoru shouted from the back.

“Looks like F-2’s.” Atsushi said. “Probably from Chitose.”

“The clock tower got hit!” Rie yelled, all the whole group was close by, Curaia had Minoru’s hand, this was an air raid, no could afford to lose anything or anyone.

“Man, they just rebuilt that thing!” Take yelled following his disappointment a cloud of dust erupted close by.

“Don’t stay still idiots,” Maura looked toward the east and saw a few builds fall over and when I looked over, I could see the fear in here eyes, I steadily looked around my group we were all pretty scared, but Shuuji’s eye had caught something. ‘What is that?’

I looked up in the sky, amongst the chaos, to see if I could find it, but before I could ask him what he found a bomb exploded nearby and we all split.

“What’s…What’s going on here?”

“The plane is going to fall!”

“Minoru!”

“It’s gonna crash!”

“There’s another falling!”

“Everyone move!”

Explosions rang constantly from the falling bombs as they blanketed the city. They fell close to each other and had a huge blast radius, leaving few safe havens amidst the destruction. Planes began to explode and fall from the sky. Screams clouded the air as much as the dust from the rubble. Planes were exploding in the air and falling into the city, causing even more damage. Debris of all sizes flew through the air and pinned the group. Parts of buildings fell and everyone did their best to avoid the falling metal death traps.

“Cousin!” The little boy looked up to his cousin who had his hand, he wasn’t about to let go, he followed closely to Curaia.

“Minoru we’re getting out of here.” Curaia looked around, her heart racing and her throat dry from all the yelling and running, she and her cousin were actually under a big pile of debris, they were covered by what look like an office building, the furniture smashed to bits and the glass windows empty and the pieces left were jagged, but the jagged pieces left clear spaces and Curaia leaned a bit past her cousin, who was very close to her, she had him pinned in a way so if anything happened she’d recieve the damage. “We have to look for a way out…” Her brown eyes scanned the space where the two were buried under. “But where?”
“Shuuji?”

“I’m here!”

“What?” I heard voices, Shuuji’s and another one of our groups voice, the air was soaked with dust and dirt, and the sight of ruble was all around, anywhere you looked there was something destroyed.

“Take!”

“What the?” I got up and leaned through a window that was clear enough so that there weren’t any big pieces of glass poking out from the window frame. I could barely see through the brown layer of dust that was still heavy in the air, it filled your lungs so I couldn’t help but cough. “Take…What happened to him?”

Through the dust I saw a moist lump of dirt and rubble that looked like a human with its chest crushed by a large piece of a building. Was it?

“He’s dead…” The others saw a blood stained and a motionless hand carrying a pendant sticking out of a pile of rubble, the pendant soon slipping out of the grip of the hand and falling to the ground.

‘No…’ I looked back at my cousin who was still sitting behind me, and then looked into the cloud of dust surrounding every building; the smoke and dust came up to about the head or higher of the average person. “Minoru do you have your phone with you?” I turned around to face the boy, he wasn’t shaking, but he was very scared.

“H-Hai…” He took out a black flip phone, and then put it back in his pants pocket, it was a bit of a miracle that he hadn’t lost it or that it wasn’t damaged. “Why?”

“I’m going to get out of here and look for help, keep your phone on.” Curaia began to slowly crawl on her knees and stick her head and then arms out of the broken window and slowly began to move her lower body, legs, and feet out of the rubble. Only to have a few new cuts on her legs and few tears in her uniform too.

“Are you going to be alright Cousin?” Her cuts had already begun to bleed and she also had a bunch of cuts on her hands from forcing any glass out of her way, I’m worried about her. “You’re bleeding a lot…”

“I’ll be fine, this is nothing.” Curaia nodded and gave her cousin a reassuring wink and ran off into the now destroyed city.

“Good luck…”

Curaia ran through the destroyed and ripped up streets of Sapporo, the air raid had devastated the city and probably a good portion of the people living in it or visiting the city. Grand buildings now stood as scuffed up hunks of ruble. Used bomb shells and parts of the black bombers lay everywhere, it was amazing that any of her friends had managed to survive, with the exception of Take who had died. A shiny wet stream escaped from it’s brown embers and ran down the soft pink cheek of Curaia’s face, even if she wasn’t all that close to him, he was still a friend to her.

“Take you idiot…” I made a tight fist with my hand, walking in any random direction, looking around I saw a sign for one of the banks and a few more business buildings, I couldn’t be more than a few blocks from where I left Minoru, I can’t go much further. “How will Yukari take this…wait…” In the midst of some ruble I saw Shuuji. ‘What’s he staring at?’ The brown haired girl looks over again and stares a little before walking over and she scanned the area and made sure to be careful to avoid stepping in any holes or on any sharp objects that could go through her brown school shoes, when she was close enough, she poked Shuuji who didn’t move and only uttered a couple fragments of words: “Chi...se…”

didn’t know what he was talking about, so I quickly tied my hair into a low ponytail and faced the direction he was facing.

“Chise…what…” my words ceased to flow from my mouth and my vocal cords lost all function when my eyes were confronted with a harsh, shocking and very real image: Chise.

There I stood next to the dumbstruck shuuji, finding myself increasingly disposed to his current state of mind. We both stared in horror and confusion. As the human mind develops it becomes accustomed to various truths of reality. When we saw Chise...What she had become, our reality was quite clearly just an illusion. For in front of us stood that cute little girl, our kind hearted friend, or at least what was left of her. Her school uniform, which we had seen her cleanly wearing days before, was now tattered from the air raid. Her clothes were drenched in blood and oil from fallen humans and destroyed bombers, and her skin was smeared with both. Chise...no longer had a right arm, the skin was torn and from her torso ran a mess of wires all latched and connected to a massive chain gun that was easily larger than the rest of her body that now acted as her right appendage, and was most likely the main contributor in the production of the blood and oil that covered her body. It must have been much heavier than her, yet she showed no sign that it was even there. Yet there was more to this machine that my shocked mind refused to believe was not Chise. Just as the silhouette I had seen destroy the plane during the raid, there stood Chise, she looked like a dove, with her huge metal wings behind her, created of some organic looking metal with a few large, singular, blade-like feathers outstretched in a row radiating from her back.

“Chise…her body….the planes…”

“Shuu-Chan…I’m sorry…this is what my body has become…” A tear rolled down from Chise’s emotionless brown eyes, they didn’t seem to be more than one shade like normal but single shaded and lacked expression.

“Curia-Chan…”

“Yes?” I couldn’t control the way I breathed, at first my breath was cut off and I couldn’t breath or move, but my fingers twitched a little and my breaths became more of a normal pace and I looked on at my friend, the on coming wind helped blow away some of the dust and our clothes danced lightly in the wind.

“Be careful…”

With those words, jets from her back ignited and she flew away: The shy and clumsy Chise, whose worst subject was gym yet she excelled in history: she was a weapon of mass destruction.

Hours dragged on slowly like hikers going on a long hike, the survivors of the air raid were taken home or sent to a hospital, everyone went their own separate ways home. Curaia went back home and decided to hold onto Minoru for the evening, it was around ten or so in the evening when her cousin had finally fellen asleep on the blue family couch in the family room, they had watched a movie and played video games for a little while. ‘I’m sorry you had to go through all that Minoru…’ She sighed and placed a blanket on her sleeping cousin, he had been through a lot that day and she didn’t want to wake him up and got up with a small smile on her face and went to clean up in the kitchen, there were only the dishes she and her cousin had eaten from. “Today was a long day…” She looked at the clock which read around 11 or midnight and sighed with a loose smile on her face.
“Looks like Mom and Dad are going to be late again…” I loaded the dirty dishes into the dishwater and wiped what ever water was on my hands onto my loose blue jeans and took my little white apron off.

“I think I’ll change a little…” Curaia left the kitchen, took her hair out and let it fall down to her mid back, the shorter bangs hung in front of her shoulders and framed her face lightly and went down the hall went to her room and switched from her white school blouse to a white tank top and plopped on the her lavender and white plaid comforter and buried her head into her pillow. “So tired…and hungry…and sleepy…” Curaia groaned a little before turning on her back at first and then looked up at her ceiling.

“War is everywhere…” Her brown eyes looked outside her window through the window and pierced into the night sky and gazed upon the twinkling stars and glowing moon. “It looks so calm out there…but it isn’t…there’s a lot of fighting…”Curaia laid herself back down and slowly shut her eyes, slowly drifting off to sleep. “Sleepy…”

Ohayo Guzaimasu – Formal for Good Morning

Ohayo - Morning

This chapter was very lengthy, but it was the intro chapter that sets the stage for the rest of the fic. The title of the fic “These are the Days” is after the song by O-Town. They own the song and all that stuff. That’s my first chapter, no bashing please. I’d like reviews, not bashing. This chapter was meant as a little intro, showing more or less of Curaia’s world. There’s normally no action and stuff so it’s kind of boring, much like everyday life, so most people can relate. The crossing over will happen a little later in the fic.

Chapter 1
