"Ooh, boy, won't this be fun, nya?" a voice purred, with a giggle."Just make sure you don't screw up, Siberian." Balinese said, her voice coming through the phone held in the girl's clawed hand. "This isn't one of your little games, Abyssinian will be far from happy if you mess up his plans. Take it seriously, and you'll see rewards.""Yeah, yeah, nya," she complained, scowling a bit, "I hear you, nya." She flipped the phone closed, stuffing it into her pocket.
Putting her hands behind her head, she laid back, the violet-adorned cat demon hidden in the blossoms of a blooming cherry tree. It was odd that spring flowers were blooming in winter, but the tree had an almost invisible aura around it, making it bloom.
She could do that with all plants, as she rubbed her hands together.
Siberian stood up, with a large mischevious grin on her face. "Aw, poor Abyssie's going to be in a bad mood... if it's inevitable, I might as well have some fun, nya! Hee hee!" she giggled. Jumping out of the tree, she took in a deep breath, her hands down at her sides.
With a quick swing upward towards the sky, large bushes grew into a green maze, circling at least 50 feet high around the entirety of Mt. Kurama.
"They won't find their way through... not with my riddles, nya!" Siberian giggled, her yellow tail swishing behind her.
She opened one eerie yellow eye, and flicked her claws, the purple-colored nails growing each about 6 inches in length on her right hand.
"Poison blades!" she shouted, four long swipes of poisonous energy cutting down a section of the shubbery wall. It immidiately absorbed the blow, and regrew itself within half a second.
"That ought to do it, nyaa," Siberian purred, with a satisfied smile. "Ooops!" she squeaked, a paw over her mouth.
"Almost forgot, wouldn't want anyone playing hopscotch over my pretty little maze!" she giggled, with a snap of her fingers, a purple electric aura crackled over the ceilings of the labyrinth.
"Nyaa, perfect..." she mewed, with a toothy grin. The paralysis barrier, if you touched it, it would paralyze the body gradually. Starting with the legs, then the middle, then arms, shoulders, and head, then last, the organs. Inevitably, it would ensure death. Unless the antidote were taken, that is. She dug into her shirt, pulling out a vial of maroon liquid, then tucked it back into her chest for safe-keeping.
Each new turn would lead to a dead end, in which they'd have to solve a riddle. Siberian, the famed "Cheshire Cat" of demon world, would have many brainbusting challenges to offer...

Hiding in the shelter of the forests was an almost undetectable rustle, a pair of glistening green eyes sharply watching for developments in Siberian's territory. She was expanding her space, by his judgement, around the entire volcano.
This wasn't good.
"Surely Koenma has informed Yusuke, a dormant volcano beginning preparations for an eruption is lightly unnoticed," he said to himself in a whisper. "Time is short. Perhaps a rendevouz with them wouldn't be a bad idea. Even my power over plants can't negate hers with that poison barrier in the way. Not alone, at least."
As intelligent as the fox demon was, it was far wiser to travel in a group... pack, persay. Flipping his red hair over his shoulder, he turned, and took off into the trees, following the scent of Yusuke's energy.
But still, the thought troubled him. Hiei's scent had passed by earlier, then dissappeared. Obviously, he didn't want anyone following him. But where would Hiei go? Even the koorime knew it was foolish to go alone.

Kurama led the way, at a quick run, checking back every few moments to be sure that the entire group was behind him. The sun seemed to be setting for the day, which meant they only roughly had six days to complete their task.
As much as Kurama would prefer not to be fighting blind in the moonless night, there didn't seem to be many or any alternative options.
"It's this way, just up ahead," he said in a hushed tone, leading the group through the trees.
Stopping at a large break in the forest, where the grass had seemed to melt away, the tall wall of pulsing brush had blocked them, Kurama judged at least 50 feet or higher.
Kurama swallowed, taking the rose from his hair. Tearing a petal from the delicate flower, dropped it onto the barren dirt. It seemed to sizzle with an electric energy, purple static waves dancing quickly across it, the scent of burnt petals a bit crisp in the air.
A straight, single-file row of stone steps began to appear, rising out of the ground, one right in front of the other, leading up to the thick wall. As the last stepping stone reached the wall, it purged open, curving into an adequate door.
Kurama cringed, as the door opened the spirit force from farther away seemed more concentrated, whoever had built it was using quite a massive amount of spirit energy to keep up this barrier.
His nose twitched. "Be careful what you touch," Kurama cautioned his accompanants, "I smell toxins. Very heavy in this area. Some might be airborne, but don't seem to pose a threat to our bodily systems unless we're in for over twenty-four hours. Maybe thirty, at most. Once we see the inner layout, I'm sure Miss Callisto can give us an approximation, right?" Kurama asked, giving a smile to the twins.
"I'll go first," he said, and turned to the group, making the decision himself, being the most cautious of the group. Although he didn't particularly trust this structure, better to lose himself than Yusuke, or Matthew, or Helios, or even Shikamaru.
Still, the thought in the back of his mind pestered him, thinking of Hiei. Kurama'd only wished the koorime could act a bit more rationally once in awhile.
"Hiei... where are you?" he murmured under his breath, taking his first step onto the first stone, gaining his balance. Good, everything was fine. Still, he hadn't set foot in the maze yet. Kurama could already tell, no danger outside of the maze would even be comparable to what was inside. Wouldn't it be much more rational to trap them inside? Still, he didn't think the demon upholding it would have the power to contain ALL of them for long.
"We'll have to play this very cautiously," Kurama said, taking a step onto the second stone. "If we burn up too much of our energy here, I fear we won't have enough to supress our upcoming foes."
That was code for: 'Yusuke, please try to use your brain for once.'
He followed the stepping stones into the maze, seeming as everything was fine, gave the signal for the others to follow.

"Never said this would be easy," Yusuke responds as he follows after. He kept his hands to his side and out of his pockets, deciding to actually remain alert for once, losing that laid back attitude of his. He knew when he should show boredom and when to show seriousness, and the latter was the appropriate mood for him right now. His eyes kept looking around at his environment, seeing if anything was going to pop out at them and try to attack. However, to Yusuke at least, he still wasn't that worried. After all, he was confident of his improved strength. He had no problem with confronting an unexpected enemy.

Shikamaru stood to the rear of the group. Since he wasn't that familiar with these new group of people, he felt sort of left out, but he would speak out to them to try to get each of their attention.
"Um, hello? I don't know if you guys know this or not, but if that guy is right, we're walking into an infested area. Now, I don't know what you guys are capable of, but I for one won't be able to survive in there for more than a minute. Isn't there any alternative route?"

"That does prove quite problem," Helios said, looking Shikamaru over quickly. Seeing as most of them were full or half demons, they'd fully neglected the fact that Shikamaru was 100% human.
But what to do? How could Shikamaru continue?
Kurama had already scoped the entirety of the perimeter of the mountain, this labyrinth being the only way through, being forced to play completely by their "opponent's" rules.
"This is the only way through, I'm afraid..." Helios continued, his hand on his own chin, pondering.
Callisto bent down, and ripped off the bottom half of her long skirt, tearing the ragged ends again, seeming to layer it.
"Eh?" Circe questioned, looking inquiringly at her twin sister.
As it had been made layered enough, Callisto offered it to Shikamaru. "I'd offer you a professional gasmask if I had my materials with me, but, I believe this makeshift one might prove just as useful, as long as we move quickly."
Circe grinned, giving her twin a thumbs up. "Yeah, if he ties it around his mouth and nose, it'll filter most of the poisons out of the air, won't it?" she asked.
"Mm-hm," Helios agreed, "And if by chance anything does go wrong, Kurama always carries his antidotes with him, is that correct?"

Kurama nodded. "Assuredly. I always have a multitude of antitoxins, most plants do have those capabilities. With the fertility of the volcano, some of the plants that haven't been tainted are even more pure here than out in the city," he explained.
"You have nothing to worry about, Shikamaru," Kurama convinced him, "That makeshift gasmask will prove useful enough."
His level-headed demeanor was quite in check, as Kurama waited for the others to cross.

Matthew stood and listened to Kurama as he spoke. Matthew was wary of the poisons that were most likely abound in such an area, but he trusted Kurama's knowledge of plants and the like. If anything, it was best to let him go first and follow his lead through the forest. Shikamaru's part would come in once they got past this.
"I guess I should take care of myself, then," said Matthew. Matthew's blood was only mildly resistant to poison, mostly those of dark origins, though it was mostly pertaining to his immunity to vampirism. He could still become very ill and die from other poisons. However, he had his own way of regulating the air he breathed. He closed his eyes and focused his spirit energy upon his throat, the blue glow of his spirit fire welling up in his gullet. The concentrated spirit energy made the inside of his mouth glow blue, with fumes frome flames seeping out of his mouth as if it were some kind of a forge. As he breathed in and out, it almost looked as if he was breathing out blue fire.
"It's going to take a bit of my own focus to keep this burning within my throat," he said. "It's not a difficult place to focus spiritual power, but keeping it maintained passively takes a bit of focus away from some of my senses. If I lose my focus on it, I'll be open to the toxins in the air. But for now, my spiritual power will burn away at any harmful gases heading into my mouth."
Of course, this didn't over look the fact that he was kindof ridiculoud looking with fire coming out of his mouth as he spoke. It was like some kind of a blue Jack-o-lantern. Of course, he -could- just breathe in the poison and waste even more energy partially dissolving his respiratory system and replacing it with high-concentrated spirit energy to remain alive. Even then, he had not fully mastered such "controlled" use of his Transcendence transformation.

"If we're done chit-chatting," Yusuke says with his right hand coming to his left bicep as he raises that particular arm. "Let's get this party started. We got a world to save."
He walks ahead of them, deciding to take the initiative in getting their mission started. Cocky smile, determined eyes: he was more than ready to tackle this problem.

Shikamaru did not show confidence in the generic mask. Even him staring at it with a unsure look showed his questionable agreement to this method of filtering the toxins in the air. But, he really didn't have a choice. And with a few materials that he wished to have not available at this time for this right situation, he could only use what he had. And well, when it came to improvising, he was the best in tactical thinking. He ties the piece of clothing around the bottom part of his head, and gives a nod.
"I'm ready."

As much as he'd like to tell Yusuke to hold on for another few moments, there really didn't seem to be any few to spare.
"Hurry along, now," Kurama said to the few that hadn't entered yet, giving a small beckoning wave of his hand. "And don't fall behind, this is the least favorable place to get separated," he cautioned.
Instead of letting Yusuke take the front, or letting himself, he chose to walk alongside the detective, as the corridors between each of the grass seemed to be wide enough to fit three people.
He followed the only available road, making a turn right, then left, checking back every so often just to make sure everyone was keeping up. The first block came all too soon, dark purple thorns barred the way, radiating with a manevolent demon energy.

Siberian let out a giggle, yellow eyes glittering with excitement. "They've come, nyaa?" she asked herself, a sly curl in her lips, "Let's see if they like this, then, nyaa?"
Her test would be one of wits, as the "Cheshire Cat" of demon world was notorious for confusing her prey into a frenzy. How long until this particularly large group would begin to argue amongst themselves? How long until they were at each other's throats? Siberian believed she'd truly enjoy watching this one.
Making herself comfortable atop a branch of a radiantly blooming sakura tree, quite out of the season, she lifted her right index finger, her talon drawing in the air, spelling out words.
"We'll start out easy, nyaa... I don't think I'd have as much fun if I stumped 'em on the first question, nyaaaa..." she purred with delight.
~~~
At the barracaded path before Yusuke and his accompanants, purple letters appeared in the air, scrambling until they were in their proper order.
The mid-air sign displayed a question:
GIVE ME FOOD, AND I WILL LIVE; GIVE ME WATER, AND I WILL DIE. WHAT AM I?
Yusuke comes to a stop when he sees the cat girl. And of course, he wasn't happy to see anyone like, nonetheless, wanting to answer a random riddle right out of the sky. Instead, he would answer: "Who the heck are you?"
From the looks of it, she could be one of the bad guys helping out the person who was going to do his little firey doomsday. And if that was, she was going to have to move away or he was going to get rid of her by force, and soon this maze they were standing in. Because one thing was for sure: Yusuke was an impatient guy.
((Erm, I had meant for her to be at the END of the maze, transferring her messages through her poisons written in the air, but it's allright, I can go along with it. After she dissappears, she's at the end of the maze, okay?))
"You don't like my beautiful masterpiece, nyaa?" Siberian asked, scowling. "Tsk, tsk," she clicked, wagging a finger back and forth, "Really, nyaa, you'd make a horrible art critic. This took a lot of energy, you know, nyaa?" she purred.
"You solve my riddles, and you'll find your way out. Hurry up, or my plants might just eat you up, nyaa~a..." she cackled, that elusive, purring tone in her felinish voice, before she jumped down from the tree, creating a small hole in the labyrinth wall, dissappearing through it, before it immidiately closed, barring itself to not be passed through by anyone else other than herself.
This was her territory, they had to play by Siberian's rules.
Her riddle still stood, written in a vibrant colored poison in the air, retaining it's shape with her demon energy. Only until the right answer was said would a path appear.
