Working title: "Roderick"
Genre: Horror
Classification: "Short-Short" - a complete story, plot and everything, in less than 250 words
Inspiration: I cannot remember precisely what it was which inspired this little piece, but it had something to do with the smell and taste of fresh blood.
Comments: Welcome and encouraged
Roderick woke suddenly from his dreamless sleep and sat up. Warmth spilled into his lap. Had there been sufficient light, he would have looked down to see what it was. Instead he pressed his fingers against it. Wet. Sticky. Perhaps a soda he had left there before dozing off knocked itself over. Perhaps it warmed in the sunlight he knew had been streaming through the windows before sleep. The smell rose. Had someone replaced the piping nearby? He did not know. Had he left the windows open? Salt from the sea may have come in to mix with the new pipe smell. He raised his finger to his lips and tentatively licked the fluid. It tasted like rusty piping, not new. He was perplexed. But, before he could wonder further, he was dead.

I, being as slow as can be on this uneventful night, am wondering what the HECK just happened to the guy!! XD I'm gonna hafta read it a coupla more times to see if I can understand what just happend. Short, simple.... I liked it. I thought the liquid was blood at first... And that he died from that... Or maybe it was something else...? I dunno... gonk I'm gonna read it again!! XD

Roderick's Death:
Roderick had been sleeping in his home. He was shot in the stomach as he was sleeping. The sound of the gunshot jolted him awake, but his attacker had already gone. In the adrenaline rush of waking up, he did not feel the pain. The smell and taste are all associated with that of freshly spilt blood.

Wow, I'm impressed! You told us what happened without actually telling us! Nice job. And I actually got it before reading the post where you explained it (not him getting shot, but I thought he had been wounded)..a miracle....
