The first step is knowing what vision you have for your RP. Do you want a strick, orderly RP that you pretty much have total control over? Or do you want a liberal RP in which your RPers have a lot of freedom to develop whatever plot twists they wish? There are ups and downs to both angles:

The Dictatorship RP will often times not attract too many RPers, and who can blame anyone for this? There's often times a lot of reading involved: long rule lists, explainations for character profiles, maybe even a limitation on what kinds of characters can be created! These RPs tend to have an already dictated sense of direction, so RPers can't really get any of their creativity out. Also, it does not allow for your thread participators to have much control over their own creations. On the plus side, you'll likely have easy access to the information you need, and for those that keep up to date on the RP's news, it can be less confusing.

The Liberal RP tends to attact all kinds of RPers. The problem? Specifically that: you have a large pool of participaters with a wide-ranged list of motives, quirks, and visions. People's visions can often be contradictory and clash completely. Mass confusion can result as individual characters have to strive to take the most control over the plot. Extremely Liberal RPs can become mass chaos, and when you mix lots of people with lots of confusion, big arguements tend to occur.

Usually it is best to maintain a balance between these two extremes, but how much balance is entirely up to you. Remember, the more rules and restrictions you place on your RPers, the less creativity they can exhibit. Also note that the more writing there is to read, the less likely people are to read it. RPers are human, thus innately lazy. If you're going to have a lot to read, then you're going to need to have evidence that your RP is worth going through the efforts of reading that much. This can be done by having several other very successful threads that have proved your work well worth the effort or by presenting the information in a way that makes reading it more entertaining and easier to follow. I will have more on this later.

If you're going for a more liberal RP, you're going to want to set at least some guidelines. Give your RPers an idea of what you have in mind and never forget to set rules of conduct for those occaisional arguements. You should always try to include in your RP description the setting, the background story, and the rules of conduct.

I thought the Hamtaro for president thing was cute! Yay! I hope you do not mind me saying this here, but can you two check out my RP and give me some advice or comments on whether you think it will attract people to it?

I read what you said, and mine is a more liberal type, but it is more a hangout spot than anything else. I have done so many other RPs where there is a specific story, but then later on, I was called a noob and didn't know a thing about it...well...anyway, that wasn't here the noob calling.

I wonder though if you can check out Empress Dee's Lounge and see if you two might be able to help me attract people to it? Please and thank you! And ya, Hamtaro should be president he is too darn cute not to be!

Okay. Thanks! mrgreen So, in order to make this popular, perhaps just change the interior decorating. Well, that is so easy to do! mrgreen I will get on it right away. Oh, can we have a small cafe bit kinda mixed in, like there are certain stations where a person can pick up some food if they want it. Like say when they first walk in the first thing that happens is you are greeted by me or an anonymous person. Then you are asked about how much play money you want. Then if you are say really hungry, you must take the elevator to the second floor for a grand restaurant. Then on the third floor is the bar for those that want to drink. Then on the 4th floor and upward is our inn. The 4th floor is the reception desk if you want a room.

Is that a better set up do you think?

Well, My casino can have a tunnel leading to the LEA. That way there is more access and the elevator can reach down below, but the ideas for my casino should be asked in my lounge where I am waiting ideas. Like Nezz could be like, "Ooh, ooh...if we have this casino on the first floor, could we like have a tunnel like thingy that runs to the neighboring academy?"

And then I would say, "Sure...if we can get Hamtaro and his buddies to help with the tunnel part. They can start it and then we can help too. And we should get your friend...emmy...to help out. She would love this project!"

Oh the construction with my lounge is going to be in an RP format so everything that gets done to it is public so everyone knows what is happening and then it adds to the fun. People get to know each others powers then too. And we could make it like a "new class project".

Oh and the "play money" isn't real money...it's like when you play monopoly or go to the arcades and you put in those fake coins that cannot go to anything else. And of course, I am going have prizes duh! And tokens won will be transformed into something different when it is spit out the other end so that if you win the jackpot or something whoever wins it gets something traded by me...but something that can be sold in the marketplace or, maybe some flowers or if I am not questing anything a bit of gold like 100 gold or something. We gotta attract some people here. And I come through on my promises too. But anyway, the point is, the casino part is being used with monopoly money and when it reaches a jackpot, a certain amount put in...they win something and they see their "dealer" you know...so its more of a game than anything.
