Tyr the Evil OverLord

(Right. Gonna start writing posts for this baby so it's best if I move it to its own thread)

The cave is dark, dank, and dripping water from its stalactites as the two figures walk, slowly and carefully through it, the shorter figure supporting the taller one. The taller figure is clearly one of the Firstborn... His skin is pale, like alabaster and glows slightly from within, but unlike the light of a healthy elf, his flames seem to be guttering out.

As they move on, slowly, limping(?) onwards, they can see the tunnel is growing lighter... but the taller elf slumps even more, and so the shorter figure, cloaked and hooded, concealed from head to toe, has to stop as well, and help the taller elf to sit against the cave wall.

This does not help them at all.

The shorter figure swears viciously in a language that is not Sindarin, nor Quenya and, though fatigued, waits until the the taller elf is comfortable, before sinking to a crosslegged sitting position with a sigh of.. relief? Or is it exhaustion? Both of them are tired. Bone-deep tired. and both of them wants sleep. but...

"Why do you not...leave me....?" the dark haired elf asks, eyes, shadowed by his fatigue. "Go on ahead."

"Ch'K'Veshta! As if I'd get any further. Besides. It's YOUR home, not mine." the shorter figure snaps back, dryly. "Tis not as if I WANT to go there anyway. I'm only coming along to drop you off at your home and get some supplies. Then, I'm heading back."

The taller elf laughs somewhat scornfully. "To that... cave? Truly, you lack ambition."

"Better a cave in the wilderness than a city full of snobs." the shorter figure counters, as he leans back against a tall pillar of stone.

"They are not... going to look down at you. You brought me back, after all. I am a prince of the city! My uncle will be most grateful to you for your services."

The shorter figure snorts inelegantly to express his disdain for this line of thought. "Ch! As if that were true. My mother's people have a saying about the gratitude of kings, you know. It doesn't exist."

"And what of MY gratitude?! Do you have so little faith in me?" The taller elf snaps back, annoyed.

The shorter figure pulls back his hood for awhile as they rest.

"Ch'Nai. It has nothing to do with YOU." he frowns.
"Say rather that I have little faith in your uncle's letting me out after I enter the city. As far as your gates, will I go, and no farther.Fare thee well ,and all that jazz."

"What IS this Jazz you speak of?"

"A type of music my mother is not fond of."

"You speak of your mother constantly." The taller figure says dryly.

"And why shouldn't I?"

The taller figure shakes his head in amused resignation. "Fine. So. How long shall we stay here?"

"Until you gain back your strength. Rest, and I'll set up camp and change your bandages."

"...I can do it myself."

"K'Vai! if I thought you could do it yourself, I'd most likely LET you do it. As it is, allow me to finish the work and then you can pay me back in supplies, eh? That was my last change of clothes I had to rip up for your bandages. Soon I'll have to start on my sleeves."

An inelegant sound of scornful amusement from the taller elf is heard, and then he speaks again, "And if you come with me to my home, have no doubt you will be paid in full."

"Ah," the shorter, black skinned figure counters wryly, "But even if I was paid in full, could I LEAVE with the payment? That IS after all, the most important question."

(-cough- These posts may NOT be in chronological order. Sorry about that. We have yet to rp these IC on AIM)

"March!" The elven scout ordered Tyr, his voice as sharp edged as the angry dark elf was forced forward, hands chained behind his back.

Tyr now definitely rued ever catching sight of Maeglin in the first place, much less HELPING him.

Ch'K'Veshtha! He'd been right all along! It was true royals (and light elves) had no d@mn gratitude!

So far, they'd been captured within some miles of the city gates when they'd stopped to catch a breather from exhaustion.

Tyr had gone to sleep after setting up camp in the tunnel... Only to wake up to a full elven scout patrol.

And to add insult to injury, not only had he still been lying down and opened his eyes to look up at the VERY pointy and incidentally very shiny tip of an elven sword... but he found that as he stood up, he had been wrong about certain.. things.

He'd assumed Maeglin was freakishly tall, since he'd never seen one of these 'Noldor' elves before in his life, and all the elves he'd seen so far were around 5'9 feet tall at the highest. Alas, he had been wrong. >[

He found he had been captured by a group of elves who were not only fully armed, but were also half a head TALLER than him. ALL of them! Even the shortest!

And from the looks of it, since he'd left Maeglin on watch before he'd gone to bed, that inestimable 'guest' had welcomed them with open arms.

Well. That was the LAST time he was ever leaving ANYONE else on watch. >[ Clearly no one but his kin could be trusted to watch his back.

...At least Maeglin had been ranting at the now very disgruntled looking patrol leader for capturing Tyr instead of treating him like the "hero he really is". For the past two hours. >]

It wasn't MUCH, and the term hero was VASTLY innacurate, but at least it made Tyr feel better.

"What in Arda are YOU smiling about?" The elven scout's voice snapped at Tyr like a whip again and Tyr hurriedly wiped the smile from his face, assuming a stoic expression all too siilar to his father's as he marched on, prompted by the sharp edge of a sword.

Ch! Elves! Such a nuisance!

Flashback post:

"T'ch'Karavasthana..." Tyr sighs as he stretches out a bit, body shaking with exhaustion. It's technically.. morning, but to Tyr, it happens to be the equivalent of night. He'd taken the watch last night, since he was nocturnal anyway, might as well make use of it.

They'd been constantly moving for days, setting false trails even in this unfamiliar territory... Tyr hadn't been the type to take chances. Finally, in this tunnel that FELT of the water deity Ulmo... (Tyr still got chills up his spine in the BAD way just moving into the area of Ulmo's influence...) He'd deemed it safe enough to set up camp for a.. slightly longer tiem than normal.

Which probably meant until Maeglin's wounds fully healed.
K'tath! He healed so d**n slowly Tyr was confused as to how his kind actually survived fighting their resident Dark Lord the way they did.
Pft. Probably it had something to do with
the local deities... the Valar and Maiar.

In any case, Tyr DIDN'T want to run into any of them and it had only been extensive boasting speeches by Maeglin that had gotten the half- drow to even consider settling down.

Maeglin was clearly VERY proud of his home city. Such a thing amused Tyr quite a lot. That someone who clearly disliked and distrusted most of its citizens could like a city like that... huh. Cute.

Oddly cute, but cute nonetheless.

Tyr had managed to snag a pair of hares and a few fish over the course of the night to cook for what was effectively his dinner... and Maeglin's breakfast. (though the fish was far more difficult to get.. Pfeh! Water. Tyr never DID get the hang of dealing with his opposing element)

He set them to roast over the fire he'd started and then moved over to check on his sleeping 'guest's' injuries and remove the bandages to check for improvements. He'd cast a few healing spells on the poor fellow as they'd kept moving every time he washed out the wounds since ..well.. Tyr certainly was no ranger.

Catching fish (with sharp sticks) and laying traps was about the best he could do when it came to foraging and Tyr did NOT know what herbs were used for healing here..

(Brenn probably would have, but then Brenn was like.. millenia older than he? Pft. Tyr had stopped counting or guessing ages ago)

He finished the daily washing and cleaning of the wound before yet a fourth healing spell was cast... Huh. The injuries were closing well.

Still too slow for Tyr's liking, but at least with a few good night's sleep, they'd probably heal without leaving scars.

Maeglin was starting to wake up, so as Tyr wrapped the final layer of bandages and sealed it, he gently shook the elf awake the rest of the way.

"Hey. Your turn to take the watch." He said, with a yawn, eyes wanting to seal themselves shut.. but no. Sleep could wait. At least until after dinner... Tyr was starving.

(Maeglin's flashback)

Maeglin rubbed his eyes free of the night's grit and yawned as he sat up, pushing off the remnants of Tyr's coat and his cloak as he did so. The poor coat had suffered grievously as they'd fled the scene of carnage Tyr had left behind.

Maeglin still had no idea WHY Tyr healed so fast, but, since his injuries were closing as well, he optimistically assumed it was probably rubbing off on him. Who knew?

Idly, as he stood up reluctantly to go over to check on the food, he wondered to himself what exactly Tyr's lineage truly was...since he didn't LOOK like he was half dark elf.... but then Tyr had said his mother was a hybrid...Maybe his father had been a hybrid too?

Or perhaps he had been from a tribe who Melkor had already managed to significantly alter to the point that their body no longer resembled a pure-bred elf's body. If so.. It could explain many things. Like the skin. and the hair. And the freaky eyes. And the tendency to wander around restlessly as if patrolling during the night. As well as several other details.. Tyr's sense of scent was acute. He could find things in pitch darkness.
He moved like a panther and he automatically distrusted anything that seemed to be too easy. Not that Maeglin was complaining though, since Tyr had managed to see a couple of traps he hadn't seen coming....

His father HAD talked about some of their kin going missing before his time...

A sense of pity filled him at that thought of what that meant for Tyr's forebears, but he shunted that to the back of his mind.

Time for that later when they were safe in Gondolin. Surely his uncle could protect them.

Meanwhile.. the savory scent of roasting meat filled the air and Maeglin began to remove the roasted hares and fish from the fire, setting them on some of the leftover leaves he'd had his lembas wrapped in before when he'd still HAD lembas. Heh. It was gone now of course and he'd been meaning to throw those leaves out, but at least now they'd served some use.

As it had been for the past week or so of traveling with Tyr, once again, meat and fish and water were the only components of the meal.

Maeglin missed decent food. Breads. Pastries. Pasta.Lembas. SWEETS.

Ah, how he'd missed them.

Fruits were few and far between as they'd traveled and vegetables were nonexistent since Tyr would refuse to look for the stuff. He'd never thought he'd miss vegetables before he'd started out but the taste of meat was starting to cloy.

No matter. A few more days and they would be home and Maeglin could introduce Tyr to the finer points of elven cooking.

He could not help but smile at this thought which caused Tyr to look at him oddly with an eyebrow raised.

The dark-skinned hybrid ate like a feral cat, Maeglin had noticed as they'd traveled. Had he always been such?
Again the pity rose, but he shunted it aside.

"My turn to watch your back. Go to sleep Tyr, you look like the walking dead." He pointed out, somewhat... sardonically, to which Tyr responded with a wry smile. "In a few minutes." as he stood and stretched his back again, walking over to reclaim his coat and wrap himself in it, using his arm for a pillow as he lay down to sleep on the packed earth.

Maeglin made a note to himself to get Tyr a new coat. And new clothes. The poor fellow looked like some sort of vagabond.

Some time later, as Tyr slept the sleep of the righteous and truly exhausted, Maeglin was only too pleased to be surprised by the sudden arrival of some elves he knew well enough. His uncle's border patrol and scouts.

A tinge of guilt filled him as he thought of Tyr's shock when he woke up to be surrounded by unfamiliar elves.. but surely his luck was looking up, right? biggrin He was SAFE. FINALLY safe! Now they could all go home!

He couldn't wait to show Tyr his forge. >]

Maeglin grabbed the shoulder of the nearest scout.

"What in the name of the Valar are you doing?! He saved my life!
STOP THREATENING HIM!"
He snapped, losing patience with this commoner's rough ways.

HOW could the imbeciles treat Tyr so?!

>[ Well, clearly he'd have to demand his uncle discipline him. If these common folk felt as if they had the RIGHT to manhandle his rescuer, they'd have another thing coming!

"My uncle will hear of this!"

The scout simply sighed and... did he just roll his eyes?
THE NERVE OF THIS ELF! Treating him like an elfling! >[

"Look,Milord, we're just taking precautions. This ....creature could be working for Morgoth. We don't want anything to happen to you."

>[ "Working for Morgoth? I tell you AGAIN, you BLOCKHEAD! He saved my LIFE! He SAVED me from Morgoth's minions! IF he hadn't been there,. I would have been ORC BAIT! >[ NOW UNHAND HIM YOU LOUTS!"

>.< The guard was getting a migraine. WHY the hell did HE have to deal with his royal highness again?

Oh, yes. =.= The job. Well, he may as well put his foot down RIGHT NOW.

"Sorry, your milord, we're not unhanding him until we can get back to Gondolin and our superiors."

"You're hurting him! >["

"I'm sure the healers could tend to that, Milord."

"They'd better or I'll have your hide for this!"

As they walked to the Hidden city, Maeglin ... pestered... the scout.
Tyr, being on the receiving end of the scout's bad temper, naturally shot Maeglin a quelling look at hissed at him to just STOP it!

5 minutes later:
"...Look, could you NOT POKE ME in the SIDE? THAT HURTS!" Tyr hissed at the scout. An amazing feat in a sentence with only 2 s's.
"AND NO, THAT'S NOT SOOT. IT DOESN'T RUB OFF!" he added as a curious scout checked his fingers to see if the darkness of Tyr's skin had rubbed off on his own pale fingertips.

"See, Maeglin?" Tyr said rather snidely aside to the amused prince
"This is why my mother always said ELVES HAVE NO GRATITUDE WHATSOEVER."
As an after thought he added "And Kings too. >["
Maeglin snickered "And what of princes?"
"You're different."
"Oh?"
"Elven kings must by process of elimination be the worst, since they are both elves AND kings."

Maeglin snorted. "We HAVE gratitude! It's not my fault these IDIOTS refuse to obey my orders!"

A sharp side glance at the prince.
"Aren't they YOUR idiots then, by association?"

"NO!" Maeglin protested vehemently. "MY people are far better trained than THESE. You can blame Glorfindel for that. I never really liked him.""

The scout countered, rather annoyed, "We are under the orders of TURGON. "And Glorfindel is under Turgon." -.-

Maeglin countered with... "My uncle has gratitude!"
and when he heard the scout, he snapped,
"Glorfindel is a selfrighteous pansy. >["

Tyr smirked!

The scout snidely pointed out,"Well, we listen to him, not you. So let's move."

The mismatched pair ignored him.
"You also said that about that other elf you said worked for your uncle, whatsisname... Egalmoth."

Maeglin grinned "He's clearly a pansy. He even wears all the colors of a field of flowers."

Tyr grinned confidentially "He sounds like my uncle Jarlaxle."

"I'd like to hear you say that to either of their faces." muttered Galdor, who was with that scouting party.

Tyr ignored him. "All he needs is a good soak in soot, a horribly shiny hat, and enough golden jewelry to blind a cyclops.....and most of all, a horrible propensity to flirt with ANYONE. of EITHER GENDER."

Maeglin smirked.
"Nice to see horrible fashion sense transcends race barriers."

Tyr snorted "True. Tell me does yours also have this nasty tendency of teasing everyone in sight?"

This nonsensical conversation continued as they walked.

"Are all elves anally retentive, Maeglin?" Tyr asked, curiously, low voiced.
"No, just Galdor, here." Maeglin murmured back.

5 minutes of silence...
and then... "That wasn't very nice."

"So? You said YOU'RE not very nice."

"I have a REASON to not be nice. ESPECIALLY WHEN HE POKES MY SIDE!"
Tyr pointed out, squirming to get away from the discomfort.

Soon they entered the city.
Then they had to wait for Turgon, since he was busy.
