Zuko REALLY DOES want to be prince. He just needs to realize WHY he wants it. When he does, I'm thinking Zuko doesn't have to wait until Ozai dies to stop the war. He can do little things, like forming peace treaties with towns in the Earth Kingdom or something, saying that the fire nation won't attack if they can just colonize in it and take over. Slowly, peace will take over, and the fighting will have to stop. The fire nation will rule over the towns, so they're happy, and no one's dying. It kinda works out.

oh i'd be there.
i sorta agree with you. i think though that ozai will die before zuko does anything of real quality goodness. even if right before ozai dies zuko's all like "i'll do great things, good things with this nation" i don't think zuko will truly be a good guy until ozai's gone. otherwise he'd just like banish him again.
