From the scrolls of norse myth
"Valhalla, Hall of the Slain, in Norse mythology is the hall presided over by Odin. This vast hall has five hundred and forty doors. The rafters are spears, the hall is roofed with shields and breast-plates litter the benches. A wolf guards the western door and an eagle hovers over it. It is here that the Valkyries, Odin's messengers and spirits of war, bring half of the heroes that died on the battle fields (the rest go to Freya's hall Folkvang). These heroes, the Einherjar, are prepared in Valhalla for the oncoming battle of Ragnarok. When the battle commences, eight hundred warriors will march shoulder to shoulder out of each door."
In actuality, Valhalla is indeed huge, but none of the other parts are correct.
Ragnarok has come and gone, and the halls, with its white walls and arched ceilings, is empty. The dark wooden furniture, intricately carved, is gathering dust in several rooms
The warriors are gone and its empty out-buildings, now being slowly converted to guest-houses, echo with the slightest sound. No longer do boisterous laughter or viking songs ring through the empty halls.
Yet Valhalla is not dark, despite the long winter that surrounds it.
Asgard and Vanaheim may be empty of their previous inhabitants since Ragnarok ended with all the gods, save for Heimdall, slain, but Valhalla at least is being re-built to accomodate new people.
The eagles and Odin's ravens are long gone.. but Heimdall and the wolves remain.
The fireplaces blaze brightly, and the braziers burn sweet scented incense and scented woods. The roofs are strung with icicles that never melt... like crystal chandeliers that reflect the fire light.
The ancient battle standards and banners are still on the walls, bright intricate splashes of color in the somber rooms that still seem to mourn their previous owners...The beds are set with brightly colored blankets, thick and soft, with fluffy warm furs of various animals. Polar bear seems to be a favorite.
Slowly but surely the halls are coming to life as new visitors come to see Asgard, ancient home of the Norse Gods.

The main common areas in Asgard are,
Valhalla (which you have already seen), Vanaheim, Gladsheim and Vingolf.
Gladsheim is all of gold and silver, tall and imposing, with marble columns and walls and floors with intricate details. It is NOT in any way commfortable.. this is a place for judgements and display, not a home. As is apt since it is only a meeting hall, which, basically contains twelve high seats where the male Æsir held council when they still lived. It is located on the Plain of Ida or Idavoll [plain that renews itself or plain of actvity] in Asgard, near the hall of Vingólf where the goddesses used to gather.
Gimlé [lee-of-fire] or Vingolf [friendly door] is the hall of the goddesses who used to live in Asgard. Tall, white walled, intricately detailed in gold, it has a simple grace that catches the eye. It is warm and homey, with its many tapestries and its thick cushioned seats and soft beds... Even in its current state of disrepair.
Vanaheim is the part of the realm where the Vanir used to live.
They are of NO relation to the Valar though they did used to have relations with the Aesir.. when any of them were alive, that is.
Now, it too stands empty and cold.
Well of Urd (Urdarbrunn) "Well of Fate" -the holy well of Asgard
and the ancient rainbow-colored Bifröst which is the bridge leading from the realm of mortals, Midgard/Gaia, to the realm of the gods, Asgard, which the gods travel daily to hold their councils and pass judgements at Urdarbrunn (Well of Urd) under the shade of the tree Yggdrasill. The bridge itself is the rainbow and its guardian is the god Heimdallr, whose hall of Himinbjorg is located at the upper end of the bridge. The red color was the flaming fire, which served as defense against the giants.

The individual halls of the lost Gods are as follows.
Breidablik ("broad splendor"), owned by Balder - with halls of gold
Himinbjörg (Sky Mountain/The Cliffs of Heaven) owned by Heimdall
Sessrúmnir ("Room of seat") and Fólkvangrr ("folk-plain" or "host-plain"), owned by Freya
Bilskirnir and Thrudheim ("place of might") owned by Thor
Fensalir, "Marsh Halls." or "water halls" owned by Frigg
Glitnir, "shining" owned by Forseti
Glitnir has a roof of silver that is supported by pillars of red gold.
Valaskialf/Valaskjalf ("shelf of the slain"), owned by Odin
This is built of solid silver, in which there was an elevated place, Hlidskialf, from the throne on which one could perceive all that passed throughout the whole earth.
Álfheimr - owned by Freyr
Sokkuabekk- owned by Saga
Noatun- owned by Njord
Ydalir ("yew dales") -owned by Ull.
Vidi - owned by Vidar
