For some reason, nearly every Yu Yu Hakusho fan out there has heard of Hiei's mysterious "sweet snow"/ice-cream obsession. Does anyone know who started this craze? I don't think it was ever mentioned in canon, anime or manga.

I don't know.
But personally I always -hated- that description for Hiei's lack of "Human world food."
I mean, I don't think he is really that stupid to not know what Ice cream is considering he spent most of his time in human world fighting the "Bad guys."
Also, I do not think, he can be that overly romantic with his words and start talking like Romeo "Oh my Such sweet Snow."
I kind of think that is pretty -lame-.
On the other hand, it is a cute saying.
But Seri Chan, logically doesn't find that term desireable in any way. >,o

No, it wasn't mentioned in canon at all (at least, not to my knowledge). I believe it got its start in a fanfiction long enough ago for the idea of Hiei being addicted to "sweet snow" to take root, for copycat fics to spring up, and for everyone to forget which one started the whole thing. sweatdrop

--> Forgot to add.
Also, For a demon who lived in Snow climates, I don't think he would be all:
"OMG its Ice cream , cold and Brrr...I will call it sweet snow!"
Heh, I think with all of his sorrows in the Glacial village, I think he would hate calling anything "Sweet" and "Snow" at the same time, because lets remember how he was venged with sorrow in that cold , bleak place.
^,< I guess, I will always tolerate that saying as long as it is kept in fictional Stories like Fanfics.
Otherwise, we should know that Hiei himself wouldn't like to compare "Snow" and "Sweet" at the same time. sweatdrop

Thank you.
I must track down the creator and ask them how in all three worlds did they come up with "sweet snow." That makes it sound like Hiei's a kindergartener. It's painful.

I heard it was started from a doujinshi, probably a KuramaxHiei one. And then the fanfic thing happened, which lead to this discussion.
~*~
By the way, I agree wholeheartedly in HATING that. Hiei, being the buff, aggrivated guy he is, would never even use the word "sweet" let alone say "sweet snow". xD
Heh heh, Hiei as Romeo...

I feel noticed 100%.
Yes, I'm glad that Wyndi took notice how "Sweet Snow" made him sound like a little kid, not knowing what the hell, Ice cream is. >,O
And Captain Hiei, noticing that Hiei is a sadistic fiend and would never use "Sweet" and "Snow" in the same sentence.
When has he ever in the hell used "SweeT" in a Sentence ANYWHERE.

I really highly doubt that he would call it "sweet snow." I mean, you'd think he would ask someone what in Makai the stuff was before even trying it. I don't even know if he'd like ice cream. He never seemed to me the type who would like sweets much.

1. I agree he wouldn't use the word sweet for any reason, it would just -kill- him.
2. I think he can be the kind of guy to like that stuff, but not be all girly about it.

Indeed.
Hiei seems the type to like extremely spicy food anyways...
