Eru smiles at the orb. The smile would look quite benevolent.. if it had not been for the fact that it was as feral as a wildcat's and showed quite a lot of teeth.

"Care to back up your boast with a little wager?"

"Of course. I'll bet my minions can take anything you throw at them."

"Oh, really now? How about... and entire world? How long can your creatures survive with none of this.. technology bullshit?"

"Long enough. I'll bet a century, if not longer, before my creature shatters."

"Oh? Then why don't we bet for something INTERESTING?"

"What do you mean?" the orb asks supiciously.

Eru just smirks.
"Why not bet for higher stakes?"

"And what stakes would you suggest?"

"How does.. dominion and power over the territory of the loser suit you?"

"Huh. Interesting. I'll take your challenge."

"Really? So who's the lucky vict- er... champion?"

"I'll choose... this one."

"The hybrid? Why on earth do you want to use him?!"

"why not? biggrin It is, after all, a test for survival, and I do like the idea of survival of the fittest... His mother was one of my finest. I want to see how her son matches up."

"You're a cruel creature, orb."

"Ah, but then... I never said I was very nice, now did I?"

“Since when do you worry about my job?”

“Look,” said Manwë, annoyed. “If Eru loses that bet, the Orb of Ultimate Evil is going to lay claim to the whole damn world from here to the uttermost east. And. Back to here again. So just give me some-elf so we can cheat!”

The Lord of Mandos sighed. This whole affair was really…just…bothersome. There Manwë stood on his new frisé carpet, muscled arms folded, with way too much golden, glowing, pristine Vala-skin showing for Námo’s viewing tastes. The tall immortal had come bursting in the door with his usual King of the Wind gusto, and in the process blown out half of Námo’s bath time candles. If that wasn’t enough to cause a Vala sized headache, Manwë also demanded to be trusted with a soul?

“Fine,” said Námo. He gathered more bubbles about himself before they could dissipate completely. “I’ll see you in 50 or so years, then.”

“Get off your a** and do it NOW.”

“You have a lot of nerve. I’ve already started searching for some-elf suitable.”

“What’s the 50 years for, then?” asked Manwë.

“Even if he were born tomorrow—and that will take a lot of sorting out, I’ll have you know—he won’t be very useful until he’s grown. I can try to see that he’s prepared in 40 years, since it’s so urgent, but…”

“Do you know how much damage one of the Orb’s creatures could cause in 40 years? We need this in place no later than tomorrow!”

Námo’s brow creased. His eyes darkened. Trust Manwë to try to break down the door rather than open it! “Completely out of the question. The Fëa get their memories wiped before birth. And without memories, it would be as helpless as a baby anyway.”

“So leave in the memories!”

“It would go insane.”

Manwë swore. Námo swore back at him, and Manwë stared. Námo smirked a little.

“What about your brother?” Manwë implored. “He handles that sort of thing.”

“How did I know you would ask? He will have a fit when he hears what he has to do, you know. On such short notice, too.”

“Yavanna just gave me a whole basement full of wine. You and Irmo can have it.”

The Doomsman of the Valar smiled a catlike smile. “Done, and done!”

Tyr snarled viciously as he stalked through the underbrush, his long, black trenchcoat, ragged now from being caught in branches, having bits torn off as he stalked PAST said branches, flared out behind him like a bat's wings.

It reflected his mood perfectly. His head felt like a hundred dwarves had been mining it for Mithril, his EARS rung like he'd been deafened by a bunch of gremlins with gongs, and let's not even GO into what his eyes felt like. Daggers of light is an understatement.

"F*ck it, orb, couldn't you have given me a damn week's warning?!" he snarled at the slight flickering glow that followed him... like a sort of malevolent firefly.

"No can do, Tyr. The bet demands that you be completely unprepared. It ALSO demands that you change the course of history around here."

"Do you even know what damn course of History I'm supposed to f*cking CHANGE?" Tyr snarled back.

"Ah, but I'm leaving that to YOU, Tyr. Change anything you damn well want!" The glow flickered in its equivalent of laughter. Malevolent firefly indeed.

"Riiight. Can't you at least tell me what history that IS?"

"Tsk, tsk, that would be cheating. Besides, you're so much MORE effective... If you're a loose cannon. >]"

"I f*cking HATE you, orb!"

"I love you too, Tyr chibi. Now shut up and let me work."
