I just had to share this with you guys so you to can shake your heads at the idiocy of some young people.
My friend Nikki and her mom opened one of those fantasy stores with Nikki's side being focused on anime/video games. On the wall behind the counter she has a full sized Buster Sword and two different versions of Sephiroth's sword; steel and wooden. She also has a lot of other VG related stuff there. Just wanted to say those to get you to know how serious (or obsessive) she is about these things.
Now, the store is situated down the street from a jr. high school, so she gets a lot of kids coming in to look at the anime/VG and talking about all that stuff. Now, since the special edition of Advent Children is coming out she put up a poster about it and is accepting orders for it, one kid saw it and commented on how Advent Children was the greatest movie ever, and that they should make a game about it!
...
She just looked at that kid, and told him to get out of her store.
Whilst I do understand that they were only toddlers when that game came out and it's very hard to find, come on! That game has more fame than anything!

Now me, I would've done the same thing, but I wouldn't have waited for the kid to finish--I would've just told him to get out the instant he told me FF7AC was the greatest movie ever.
Seriously, though, it's finally started to happen--slowly but surely, FF7 is going to disappear into the realm of retro just as the FFs before it have. Gamers have no interest in history, I tell you.

Would that be a good thing, or a bad thing? XD Especially with that batshit Sephyism cult floating around the internet. Or hopefully, that will vanish when FFVII becomes an ancient historical retro gaming icon.

Kinda like how they should base a book on that one awesome fantasy movie trilogy. Lord Rings or something like that.

That'd be like making a game based on Street Fighter: The Movie.
...Wait a minute.

Or, as my good friend so wonderfully put it; MonkofTime That reminds me of the story about someone who, after seeing Star Wars Revenge of the Sith, said that they left the ending open for sequels.

Seikishi Moonlight Mentalist I'm not so sure -.- FF7 has been top 10 Best games according to Gamefaqs for the past 10 Years+..... Yeah, but see, that's Gamefaqs. XD Hey, what do you mean by that? xp Ess_Tii_Eph_Yhu Seriously, though, it's finally started to happen--slowly but surely, FF7 is going to disappear into the realm of retro just as the FFs before it have. Gamers have no interest in history, I tell you. I've mixed feelings about that. On the one hand, I wouldn't mind seeing fewer fanboys and fangirls fawn over the game and its own little franchise; maybe they'll even be able to hold a serious conversation about it on GameFAQs more frequently than one per half year. But on the other hand, it does make the ephemeralism of video games all the more frightening. Then again, this kind of thing applies to many media, so I suppose it is just a natural transition.

Oh, don't worry too much about it. Just like there are a huge number of keepers of past literature, performances, movies, television shows, and cartoons, so there'll always be a huge number of keepers for the past games, I'd wager. As technology gets better, they're left behind, but at the same time, kept forever because our computers and gaming consoles become better able to easily keep them available in new formats. So, yeah, even if FF7 is finally on the verge of fading into the same obscurity of its predecessors (and even a few of its successors), there'll always be plenty of people who'll know it and the rest of the old classics, and appreciate them, and keep passing them on.
I mean, hell, I know I've convinced a few of the people in this guild to check out older games, and they've even told me about a few old ones I didn't know about (Treasure of the Rudra for the SNES, for example). Arts of information never fully fade; at least, not any more.

Arts of information never fully fade; at least, not any more. That is one thing to love about the convenience of the electronics field these days - everything is preserved. Moreover, you are absolutely right; the existance of the phrase "cult classic", and for that matter my very existence as a retrogamer is a testament to the staying power of, well, anything that can be stored electronically. Rudras no Hihou! I still need to check out the new translation released last year...
