KZN02
I had the game a little before Thanksgiving, and after a few weeks of playing, I'll be telling some stuff about it:
Plot:
Simply the intro. in the game shows a pic of the Inika, then the Piraka, scrolling so we can see them all pose. The next scene shows Jaller and Vezok staring face to face, like the Bionicle Heroes cover. Next, Vezok begins pulling Jaller's mask off and is successful. Then, we see the other Piraka rounding up the rest of the Inika, fighting and defeating them. The Piraka have cuffed the Toa's hand and take them away. The next scene is a strange one: a Matoran looking like Jaller (Mask of Light movie style) moving around and he find a pool of something (most definitely energized protodermis). He jumps and and reemerges out as a Toa with a Zamor Sphere Launcher.
The player's goal is to get all 18 masks (Toa Mata, Metru, and Inika) tp upgrade their weapons and abilities and fight the Piraka to the last level.
Game Info.:
There are 37 levels, 5 per area (coast, peak, etc.) and 7 for the last area (looking strangely like in space).
Controls:
If you've played Metroid Prime Hunters, it will be as easy/hard and similar as this one. There are 4 styles of controls, and you can invert them as well (for aiming up and down).
*Jump: Double Tap screen
*Fire: L Button
*Strafe: Control Pad
*Aim/Look: Move Stylus on screen
*Special Ability: R Button
*Respawn: L Button
Of course, the start button is used to pause and I hope you know the other functions of the other stuff on the DS.
Screens:
The upper screen is where the action is. It's quite like Halo: Combat Evolved; there's a armor bar that shows how much damage you've been taking, and it recharges after a while (unless you have the Invulernablity code). There's an ammo bar showing how much energy is left to use your weapon for (Zamor Sphere Launcher doesn't run off it, and once you get the Unlimited Ammo code, none of the other weapons will). There's also a LEGO pieces count bar that fills with yellow like a bar to show you how much pieces you have from going into Hero Mode.
The bottom screen shows the map (with the image of Voya Nui, just for the look) and your LEGO pieces count (looking like cogs or Widgets). The map shows enemies and items within range (once you max out on Water Toa Level, you can perform a special scan to find hidden items). The upper part has 7 buttons (except for Silver, all have numbers on them, in the Matoran language), each to transform into a Toa when you press one. The minimal requirement to transform into a Toa is 1 mask. Getting more masks increases the number on the button. (1 mask = 1. 2 masks = 2, 3 masks = 3)
Toa:
Of course, you get to play them (but not the Piraka, unfortunately)
Silver Toa (mentioned in Plot): uses a Zamor Sphere Launcher, which is a weak, rapid-firing weapon that does not run off the ammo count. Also has the Constraction ability to move cogs onto walls and build stuff. Once you max out in all Toa levels, the Destraction ability will be gained, enabling the power to destroy any normal enemy using the Constraction ability for an amount of time.
Fire Toa: uses a machine gun-like weapon, weak but rapid-fire. Once maxed out, you get a powerful secondary fire and the ability to walk on and through lava.
Ice Toa: uses a sword like a sniper rifle. Once maxed out, you gain the scope for more precise firing and a chance to freeze enemies, regardless of what they are.
Water Toa: uses a "water hose" weapon, effect up to medium range. Once maxed out, you can walk in water and perform a special scan (using the Mask of Detection probably) to find hidden items on the map.
Air Toa: uses a electric shotgun-like weapon, strikes with a powerful force but takes long to fire another. Once maxed out, you can float weightlessly for 4 seconds to get to out of reach areas.
Earth Toa: uses a weird-grenade launcher item. Once maxed out, you get increased defense and the ability to destroy certain obstacles.
Stone Toa: uses a rocket launcher-like weapon. The first mask gives you only one "rocket", the next will give 2, and the last will give 3 and a homing feature. Maxing out also gets you the ability to destroy certain obstacles.
Items and Secrets:
In levels there are a lot of LEGO pieces which you can use as currency and go into Hero Mode. Hero Mode requires 10K pieces, and using the Hero Mode will not deduct the count but it is limited. There are 3 types of pieces:
Silver: Worth 1, very common
Red: Worth 10, uncommon. Once you complete a level with a mask in it, the same pleace where you find it will be replaced by this.
Gold: Worth 100, rare. Getting one fills your LEGO pieces meter into full. Once you complete a level find one and replay that same level, it will be replaced by a Red one.
Secrets includes Gold LEGO pieces, armor runes, and runes. The runes are used for the cheats section, and they are of the Bionicle Alphabet, though not all are used. Armor runes increase your armor level significantly, but if you get the invincibility cheat, that won't matter.
Cheats:
There are many cheats to be used at your disposal, but once you get the right runes and LEGO pieces to buy it. The codes are actually names of Bionicle Characters and Groups: Makuta, Inika, Piraka, etc. Most of the cheats are effective for yourself, like unlimited ammo, invulnerability, one-hit kills, etc., but there's also disco lights and party balloons, etc. Some cheats cannot be used at the same time.
Enemies:
Of course, what fun is a game without something to destroy (in destructing, of course)?
*Bohrok (red, blue, white): common enemies that roll out of holes commonly, sometimes spawning, they have a projectile attack, 2 in succession.
*Nui Rama (orange): flies around and attacks with a projectile from their stingers. Comes out of holes and from the sky, shoots 1 projectile at a time.
*Visorak (green, red, brown): attacks with its Rhotuka, 1 at a time. Jumps out from the ground.
Subbosses:
Like enemies, you get to fight these along them. The difference is that they spawn when they appear.
*Rahkshi (blue, green, red): attacks with its staff. It can also go into its flying mode to chase you.
*Vahki (black, white): it unburrows itself and attacks with Kanoka dicks (2 in succession).
*Muaka and Kane-Ra (yellow and red respectively): unlike the others, they attack by charging you.
*Nui Jaga: attacks with a powerful projectile from its stinger.
*"Giant Bug": I don't know the name, it's a really big bug that rears up and stomps down to fire a projectile at you.
*Zamor Cannon: only when fighting Avak. You need a Level 3 Earth weapon to destroy them and then use the Constraction ability to reconstruct them to be on your side.
Bosses:
All bosses have attacks like the mask of their level. The bosses are all Piraka except Vezon (unfortunate).
Zaktan: attacks with electricity and disperses into a Protodite swarm.
Hakann: attacks with a rapid-fire blasts, can rise the lava to hurt you. Enemies will also spawn.
Avak: attacks with rockets 1 at a time. Zamor cannons are also in the level you can destroy and rebuild for your side. Enemies will spawn.
Reidak: attacks with a spreader shot.
Thok: attacks with sniper abilities. The area he's in has lots of deep places.
Vezok: attacks with a steady water beam. Will go behind a indestructible waterfall and attack while enemies will spawn.
Levels
As I mentioned before, there are 7 areas, 5 levels per for the first 6 and 7 on the last area. Of course, each is a natural place (volcano, underground, etc, except for Stone, which is a Fortress). The last stage is always a boss level.
Secrets:
Once you beat the last level of the game, the original cutscene on the top screen will have the Inika posing instead of the Piraka.
