This "issue" is going to use a rather different format than the usual. In here, I will detail all the major news stories that have hit while the focus of the story was in another universe. Obviously, with news coming out every day and the setting advancing eleven months, some of the news may slip past you. Here I will detail all the things that catch the eye of one or more members of the party.

At the top of each post, I'll mention the date of the news story. For reference, the group vanished on 02/11/06 and re-appeared on 01/15/07. The posts will not represent the news articles themselves, but the main part of the post will only contain the information found in the article.

At the bottom of the post, I will put any information that one or more members of the party can infer from the article, based on their own knowlege. I will mention this in a quote box, and the top of the quote box will say which members of the party are able to infer this information. For instance:

Everyone
Although this news article says that Revenant was killed, you're not certain if even five gunshot wounds to the head would kill him off permenantly.

It is a known fact by everyone in the group that Revenant just seems to keep getting back up whenever he's killed, so everyone can infer this. Another example:

Matty
You recognize the woman in the photo. You know her as the woman who you battled in your intro.

Since only Matty was there for his intro, only he would recognize this woman. Finally:

The Reader
The strange "creature" with the long teeth is Plague, the man who helped Momenta at the end of her intro.

None of your characters were there, so none of you have this information in-character. However, since this game is designed like a comic, there are some scenes that I'd like to reveal to the "Reader," but not to any of the characters. Therefore, you must keep this knowlege OOC. Though most of the time, it won't matter a lot.

All that said, I guess I'll get going with actually writing this thing. I can't make any promises about how soon I can get it done, but I will try to make sure I get most of it done before next session.

Standoff Between Super-Powered Menaces; Where Are Our Heroes?
2/22/06

This article is written from the perspective of a reporter who observed the events that took place in the last post of Bolt Special #1. Aside from detailing the events, he tells that he asked a nearby police officer where the Protectors were and why they weren't dealing with this threat. The police officer replied that the Protectors had already been called several times but were not replying.

The reporter then goes on to say that it has been nearly two weeks since he has noticed the Protectors in the news at all, save one member who seems to have his hands full. The reporter finishes the article with a number of open-ended questions regarding where the Protectors are, and why they seem to have abandoned the city.

Amethyst, Johan and Starbright
It was mentioned in Bolt Special #1, but I'll mention it again here. Reading the descriptions in this article, you realize that the girl helping Mistora is Emily, the girl that Revenant and Wraith rescued from Femer Labs in Protectors #212. So everyone who was at that meeting recognizes her.

Bolt
Bolt remembers where he was that day and, if asked, can fill you in on why he didn't respond to the police; he was busy fighting Rampage. Unfortunately, there weren't any reporters around to witness his victory that day.

Hostage Situation Resolved by New Protectors?
3/10/06

This article details the events of Bolt Special #2, or at least as much as the public eye saw. It talks about three heroes, one of them a Protector, going in to resolve the situation. It also speculates that in the seeming absence of everyone except Nebula and Bolt, perhaps these two new un-named heroes are forming yet anther New Protectors.

Bolt
Bolt can, of course, tell you all the details of what went on that day, tell you about Sit and Battalion, as well as about "The Grave," who is mentioned in various other articles before this (though this is the first one that caught your eye).

Woman Attacked by Mutant; Defended by Trees?
3/25/06

This article talks about a very strange incident in Central Park. A strange woman dressing in the garb of an Aztec is assaulted by a mutant wearing a dark cloak. Even under the cloak, it is observed that he has long teeth, dark skin and red eyes. The writer of the article suspects that the woman was a mutant as well, as the appeared to use the trees and such in the park to defend herself against this man. There is even a picture, showing both people involved int he conflict.

Matty
Nobody would have noticed this article except for Matty, who recognizes the woman as the woman claiming to be Chicomecoatl, the Aztec goddess. He fought her back in his intro (Pulverizer #12) and she escaped. Apparently she's in NYC now.

The Reader
The mutant that Chicomecoatl battled is indeed the mutant who took Momenta in during her intro, "Escape From Femer Labs, Part 1." He is called Plague.

Prima: Heroes or Villians?
4/11/06

This article talks about a public statement made by a new organization called Prima. (This statement is available in video archive as well.) Although the organization is led by Infierno, who has previously been painted as a criminal, it states that he has reformed, and is now working for the common public good. He states that in the absence of the Protectors, he has risen up from his formally self-serving perspective and realized that the city needs heroes like him. The organization has promised to take down The Grave and any other criminal organization that tries to take hold of the city. Currently, Infierno is the leader, with Molly and a mutant called Plague as his two lieutenants.

The article goes on to say that the chief of police still has a warrent for the arrest of all three of these people, and has released a public statement that this organization is to be considered a group of villians, not heroes.

This is the first article mentioning Prima, though there are many more following it. Most others are more biased, painting them as either heroes or villians, but not giving both sides of the story. The percentage of articles painting them as heroes declines as time goes on.

All
It isn't very difficult to determine from the pictures that Plague is the mutant from the last article, and isn't difficult to infer that Molly is the woman who was helping him against Mistora and Emily. The picture of Molly looks strikingly like Emily, though her skin is darker. The picture is black and white, so the color of their hair and such isn't immediately obvious.

Battalion Defends Citizens
4/13/06

This article features the first large amount of information about Battalion, including an interview. The first part of the article shows him battling a dark-skinned magic user. The mage gets away, but Battalion prevents him from harming any citizens.

After that, the reporter asks him a number of questions. I won't list them all, just the important ones.

Reporter: What is your name, sir?

Battalion: The citizens of this city may call me Battalion.

R: Why do you hide behind a mask and use an alias, though you appear to be a hero?

B: I have seen the way this city treats their "heroes." I don't want them to turn on me as they have so many before me.

R: What do you think of Prima?

B: I have yet to form an opinion of them. Infierno seems to have reformed, but I will have to meet him to know for certain.

R: Do you intend to do so?

B: Very soon, yes.

Amethyst, Pulverizer, Starbright and Johan
The wizard Battalion battled in this article is the one who sent you to the alternate dimension! The photographs and descriptions leave no mistake.

Battalion joins Prima!
4/15/06

It appears by this article that Battalion followed through on his promise in the last one, and has not only been convinced of Infierno's reform but has joined his ranks. He has announced publicly that this city needs all the heroes it can get, and that without the Protectors in place, Prima is all we've got. He also asks that Prima's other members be pardoned, at least until it is seen whether they can help with the "Grave" situation.

The Grave Defeated; What Will Prima Do Now?
5/1/06

It turns out to be the police, and not Prima, who finally takes down Revenant. This article talks about how the police manage to get in a shoot-out with members of The Grave, including their leader. Though two officers are killed and several others wounded, the partner of one of the deceased officers manages to shoot Revenant in the head. After he falls, the rest of the members surrender. The officer who shot him, obviously enraged, runs forward and sinks four more shots into Revenant's head before his clip runs out.

Most other of the head members of The Grave were either killed or captured. There are no mentions of The Grave or Revenant in the papers after this event.

The writer of this article, Bob Slugger, who has shown a bias against Prima right from the start, asks the questions, "What will Prima do now that their excuse for existing has been taken care of by a real organization of heroes, the NYPD? Will they finally realize that this city should be locking up freaks like them, not worshipping them?"

All
Though you are not completely certain, you are pretty sure that even five shots to the head would not kill Revenant for good. It seems likely that he's either been captured by someone who actually knows how to hold him or he's laying low for the time being.

Bolt
If anyone asks him about this article, Bolt will reply something to the effect of, "Slugger is a douche, always writing anti-mutant propoganda. He also happened to be right, that time. With no one to vilify, Prima's true nature was revealed. It just sucks that Battalion got sucked into it. He seemed like a pretty good guy, before that."

Prima: More Harm Than Good
5/18/06

This article is the first real solid proof of Prima's decline. They are trying desperately to prove themselves, but in this particular incident, they end up doing more harm than good. Specifically, while attempting to capture a simple mugger, Infierno manages to miss him and hit a fuel tanker instead, which exploded, killing a dozen innocent civilians. Infierno flees from the scene.

Police are now in active pursuit of anyone involved in Prima, including Battalion, even though he has done nothing illegal except for associating with them. The article even gives a number to call if anyone has any information that could lead to their arrest.

New York's Protector Falls to Prima! Who Can Save Us Now?
6/6/06

This article details a combat between Bolt and Prima. It isn't even all of Prima, just Infierno and Molly. They manage to take him down, however. At this point, Infierno has publicly declared that if New York is going to treat them like criminals, they might as well act like them. Apparently he has convinced Battalion of this way of thinking as well, because after this article, many more come out indicating the crimes they've been commiting, and Battalion is involved. His motives are unclear, he seemed to be on the right side, but perhaps he's tired of being chased by police when he's only trying to do the right thing.

Bolt
Bolt can, of course, tell you the details of this battle, though he doesn't really want to. He will indicate that it feels like his greatest failure in the history of his career as a hero, and it nearly made him quit. Although he didn't take nearly as long to recover from this battle as he did from Mistora's blast, his pride was much more hurt by it.

Mantra Appears! Will they take down Prima?
6/11/06

As if to answer the title of the last article I listed, Mantra forms. It consists of Mistora, Emily, Chicomecoatl, and the magic user Battalion fought, who this article reveals is named Kavi Virendra. They claim to have formed for the sole purpose of taking down Prima, though they are willing to fight other criminal threats as they arise.

The writer doesn't have a whole lot of confidence in this team, as they seem to have as much of a spotty past as the members of Prima. Only time will tell, however.

When Mutants Fight, No One Wins
7/12/06

It takes almost a full month before Mantra manages to catch Prima. Mantra has been patrolling the city almost every day, but it's a big city, and they're usually in the wrong place.

On this day, they finally manage to catch them robbing a bank. Right place at the right time. The two groups fight. Two bystanders are killed, one by each side of the conflict. Prima ends up getting away with most of the money.

This article is another one written by Bob Slugger. It appears almost every other sentence is "I told you so," but it gets the point across. Neither Prima nor Mantra really care about the public good. All they care about is hurting each other, and they end up hurting "us" in the process.

The NYPD has issued warrants for anyone involved in both organizations, now, and leaves their tip line number again.

President Speaks Out Against Prima and Mantra
9/12/06

Many have joined Prima and Mantra, mutant and human alike. Both are regarded as gangs now, and they are part of one giant gang war where more bystanders are killed than actual combatants. It is a very bad situation.

There is now a lot of pressure on the President to follow through on his promise to take action against mutants. He is sticking with his guns, saying that he is not going to punish the many for the actions of a few. He does say, however, that if things continue as they are, he will be forced to involve the military.

President Sends Military; Prove Useless
11/1/06

The President follows through on his promise, sending a military presence into NYC. It is immediately evident that they are unable to do much with so many civilians around. Arrests and such are made, but they cannot fight the primary four leaders of the two organizations. They are at a severe disadvantage because the soldiers are unwilling to risk civilian lives and their opponents don't care.

President Withdraws Military; Situation Hopeless?
12/1/06

It has pretty much become common knowlege that the military is not trained to deal with this situation, and they are withdrawn. Instead, more funding is pumped into the police force, since they are trained to deal with threats around large numbers of civilians. Police are being trained more and more. Hundreds of arrests are being made, and things are slowly starting to improve. The four super-beings at the top of each organization continue to elude police, however. They very rarely participate in the crime they've generated, now, simply staying hidden and planning things.
