Quite a few fics coming in now have a severe lack of good grammar or punctuation. I've posted something asking people to re-check their fics or find a beta, but there are still fics with poor punctuation. Any suggestions for people for this.

Yes I have, even with the beginnings of the Beta Reader Profiles. Come on authors please PLEASE find a beta reader, use what Jasson created thats unique to Luna!

I hate having to deny stories because of grammatical and formatting errors.

Yeah, I have. About the only thing I can suggest is the beta reader profiles too. (Which we need to get back to work on... *sigh* I hate school)

I agree. People should really look over their stories or have someone else do it. ^-^; I don't really use Beta's often anymore because of laziness and fear of causing a disruption in someone's life. I think that the main cause of lack of grammatical and spelling errors is the bad time frame that most of us face because of school and work. During summer, all of us usually just sit on our butts and have free time to do whatever it is we want, that includes proofreading. However, now that we no longer have that time, we have to do our best to try and type it out completely and correctly the first time and hope that the stories are alright.

O.O Or there could be the fact that some of the writers aren't past junior high yet and don't know about proper grammar and spelling.

OR... People are just lazy bums who don't really give a damn.

xp Truth be told, there could be countless reasons to the illiterate stories, so don't pay any attention to the newbie writer about the topic. O.o I'm weird.

I partially agree with cheerfulhope. The majority of serious writers are probably trying to correct their grammar; however, school and work will still take precedence and eat up most of their time.

Though, if this is the case then they should try to find a Beta. sweatdrop

I totally must go seek a beta. Usually, I get by without proofing because I write very slow and usually catch mistakes quickly...

Yay! People who care about writing well! *Ahem* Anyways, I believe Kitkaze is a beta and I am a beta, and the list is somewhere on the site....... On the menu..

I'm a beta too... and you seriously wouldn't believe some of the stories that occasionally show up for validating. eek Seriously. There is no reason I can think of for those sometimes... yes. So if you KNOW you need help, find a beta please (and spare DG's brain cells xd ).

And SPELLCHECK, people. Spellcheck is your best friend... sometimes/usually. At least it keeps from making stupid mistakes... sometimes... stare

I usually use the thesaurus more (Shift+F7, yay!). Spellcheck has an annoying habit of not recognizing words that I know for a fact are real.

Meh. Grammar Check does that to me. >>

"WHAT DO YOU MEAN, GRAMMARCHECK? PREPOSITIONS AREN'T SUPPOSED TO AFFECT THE VERB SO STOP TELLING ME THAT'S WRONG-"

Yeah. I pay no attention to Grammar Check anymore. It tells me I'm using sentence fragments. IT LIES. I still kind of scan it for anything that really IS wrong, though.

The only reason I can get by without a beta is because I look up at my computer screen every two or three seconds to see what I'm typing. I usually catch my mistakes then.

Then I run it through the spell check and proofread.

... *blink* I actually don't have a beta and have never really found the need for one. People have different "styles," even for punctuation and wording and stuff, and if there are mistakes, I prefer to fix them my own way. sweatdrop Then again, if I ever find any mistakes, I immediately go back and fix them everywhere, even if the story's already posted... so yeah.

I must agree... so many stories drive me nuts because they abbreviate everything, keep confusing "they're," "their," and "there." Of course then there's always the I'm-too-good-to-make-new-paragraphs complex... which prevents me from reading a story with an interesting plot line just because the text is all smushed together. crying It's sad sometimes... stare

Although I shouldn't really be saying anything since my first fic (which, now that I re-read, I find absolutely awful) was a complete mambo-jumbo of things... and I did those mistakes. Except I have an excuse! English isn't my first language! ... I'm always surprised at how the "cliche" story always gets tons of reviews, but my newest stories don't really... Interesting. Or maybe it's just the fact it's self-insert vs OC. ninja

That was a long, semi random post. sweatdrop
