User Image Daylight was not Hamakis cup of tea. She usually slept during the day, and scavenged for food every night. But the blasted sun was extremely brioght this day, and she grumbled as she stood and shook her raven coat off. "Damn you, sun! I need some sleep!" She called out at it, shotting a glare at it before wandering off through the tall grass plains to the watering hole nearby.

It was a beautiful plac,e but the blackened mind of the dog saw only a pool of water to quench her thirst. The few other animals that were around scampered away, mostly small rabbits and the like. If it had been a few months earlier, Hamaki would have tried to catch one for breakfast., But she didn't have the energy for hunting. She barely found enough food to survive by scavenging, and hunting took a lot of energy, which was suplied by food. A cruel circle.

The fairly young dogs skin was dry and dirty, and her coat had a gray tone to it from the dust and dirt she slept in. Her ribs were easily visible through her skin, and at first glance it seemed she may keel over at any second. But she had a fire in her eyes, or rather one good eye since she was blind in one, that told she was ready for a fight at any moment.

User ImageWatering holes, oases in the vast, baked plains, were like magnets to animals. Prey and preadator alike crowded around them and it was this, along with the added bonus of water, which brought Agenti to them. The male's tail tip, bright white, flashed as it came up automatically into a ready stance whilst he surveyed the water hole. His muscles were taught, wiry, and he was lean. His body might have seemed as starved as the female's had he not had the muscle mass to pad him out a little.

He hadn't really expected to come across the female, in fact he had not come across any others of his kind for some time now, and wondered wether he should turn right around and head back the way he came until she left.

It wasn't that he didn't like company - indeed he liked to sit amongst piles of adults and pups, listening to the chatter and goings on - but he wasn't too keen on the one on one kind of conversations. Especially with those he didn't know. Still, he was thirsty and there was a plethora of creatures here who might fall victim to something or other whose scraps could become his dinner. Some he might even be able to take himself if he tried.

With a soft grunt he padded down to the water's edge and began to lap up his fill, giving the briefest of nods in the direction of the female as he did.

Hamaki's keen nose caught scent of the male before her eye caught sight of him. She had learned since she was little to depend on her nose more than her eyes. After all, she couldn't see well, and he nose was much more efficient.

Looking in his direction, she wasn't sure what to make of him. Usually when others caught sight of her they started up a conversation, something she found suspicious. But this male, with his reserved drinking and little nod, he was more suspicious to Hamaki than any other she had previously met.

Lifting her lip up to growl menacingly, the little dog glared daggers at him across the watering hole. "Who are you?! You're in league with her aren't you?! I should kill you right now!" She stepped foreward a bit, as if about to carry out her threat. She was obviously not correct in the head.

Agenti's eyes looked up in her direction though he took his time to finish his drink before lifting his head. He stood silently a few moments, pondering the odd female and her sharply worded accusations.
'her?' her wondered to himself. That could hardly be right. The male stifled a grin as he replied to the obviously agitated black female.

"I don't know who you're talking about." his tone was neutral, his voice a rather deep, clear tone. He wondered wether to add any more but decided that it wouldn't matter if this female was determined to label him a minion of some female she obviously didn't care for.

As she moved forward, he had automatically straightened, his posture becoming more erect, ready. He was not a weak dog, despite his current malnutrition, but she had a look of wildness about her that bespoke the kind of violence that comes from a slightly deranged mind. Scars too, he noticed now, watching her carefully for any further sign of an attack. He didn't respond to her threat in any way, knowing that doing so often just led to the escalation that he hoped to avoid.

Hamaki eyed him carefully for a long time, unmoving. She resembled a stautue in the way she stood. Finally comiong to the conclusion that the other was trying to play a trick on her, her growl took on a louder and more challenging tone.

"Don't patronize me!" She snarled at him, wild eyes wide and glaring. Her one good eye took in his appearance; lean and underfed, but strong. Hamaki knew she could tangle with the best of 'em, but after so long without food she also knew she wasn't up to her usual fighting peak.

Registering all this information took a few moments, and she finally calmed down a little. She relaized she may not win this battle if she chose to start one, so instead she remained where she was, glaring though her growl had dimmed a bit. "You're not worth my time anyway." She stated, hoping that he and that damned lioness really weren't in this together.

She really isn't all with it, the male thought as he continued to watch for any further movement towards him. "I'm patronizing noone, girl. I don't know who it is you're talking about I just came here for a damned drink and hopefully something to eat." he spoke plainly, hoping to let her know he was not part of some plot which she had entangled herself with.

She seemed to have calmed down whilst he spoke though wether it was his words or something she thought to herself, he didn't know. 'Not worth your time?' he thought, again suppressing a smile. More like you don't think you have much of a chance he thought to himself. He would never have said it out loud but it did help keep his calm demeanour to think it.

"Well, that's good" was all he said aloud, quite equably. "You wouldn't mind, then, if I go back to what I was doing". It was a statement more than a question but he hoped she wouldn't object in any way. If she did he supposed he would just go back to his original plan of retreating to a safe distance until she'd gone.

Hamaki glared at him over her shoulder as she too lapped at the water. She didn't like this dog, not one bit. He was too suspicious for her tastes. But in reality, everyone was suspicious to her.

"I do mind, scum." She snarled at him suddenly, eyes blazing. "But I'm not a fool. I won't fight you for I'd lose. I haven't eaten well, as you can plainly see, and right now I'm not match for anyone." Her teeth still showed as she spoke, and she glared daggers at him, "But if I were in top form, I would rip out your throat."

Agenti's mood was grim as he wondered what in the hell was wrong with this b***h. He wasn't that used to females but, still, he remembered the one he had known being a lot less irritable than this one. Of course they'd all be different but, to be honest, this black, scarred creature in front of him acted more like an alpha male around a female in heat than a female herself.

He didn't let her voice goad him, though. Insults tended to wash over him as he knew that any rise in temper would cloud his judgement. "I'm sure you would at that" he replied, somewhat slowly, his tone somewhat belying his words.

His own eyes were calm as he took a moment to look around himself, one eye still on her in case she made any sudden moves. There were no others here of their kind and many of the small critters had been scared off by her posturing and tone. He sighed a little, hungry and tired. He wanted to rest in the shade for the afternoon with a full belly. Was it so much to ask?

Hamaki rolled her eyes at him, then continued her devilish glare. She lapped at the wtaer, keeping her good eye on him. She wasn't sure what to make of this male, he seemed decent enough, just in need of a drink. She shrugged the thought off and looked around, her eyes peering through the grasses around them. She wanted to make sure there was definitely not another creature around that would surprise attack her, and the male was just a distraction to get her guard down.

But as her eyes scanned the area, she couldn't see nor smell anyone that could be hiding around her, and she pushed her thoughts aside. Perhaps he was just unlucky enough to run into her. She looked back at the male, still wary but obviously less angry.

Being glared at was certainly not the worst punishment Angenti had ever taken and he returned the stare with an even gaze. Once she seemed to calm down a little the silvery blue male approached the water's edge again to catch another small mouthful of water before retreating a little ways to the shade of one of the prickly-leaved trees which surrounded this waterhole - obviously fed on the same deep underground resource as the pool itself.

He rested his head foward on his paws, facing her, wondering what she was thinking. Was she alone out here like he was? Perhaps she didn't like strangers. With her attitude they probably didn't like her, he thought with a slight grimace. What could have happened to someone to make them so full of fear and hatred? Agenti had had his fair share of mishaps and social faux pas but he had neve blundered into a creature before who was so utterly distant from others as to be so aggressive on first meeting.

His eyes followed her as he pondered all of this, dull yellow and tired. Perhaps, if she leftm he might get a proper rest tonight. He shouldn't be so hopeful, really, but you never knew. She did look as if she had calmed down a little, after all.

Hamaki watched him as he left the watering hole, and she looked to the water before her. She lapped at it once more, and coaught sight of her reflection, the ripples from her tongue distorting it. But she could still see the scar on her eye, and the look of dull defeat in her eyes.

She shook her head, turning away from the water and moving ooff into the grass. She glanced back at the male, unsure what to make of him still, and sniffed around for some kind of meal. She knew she had left a small rabbit buried somewhere nearby, and she tried to find the spot with her nose.

Finally finding the already half-eaten meal, she pulled out the rest of it and began to gnaw on the leftover meat and bones.
PostPosted: Mon Jan 29, 2007 2:36 am

Agenti's mouth watered as he caught the scent of her meal. It stank to high heaven but he hadn't put anything in his belly for a while and the sight of her laying there merrily chomping on the remains of the rabbit caused him to lick his maw, clearing away the saliva that was gathering.

For a second he entertained notions of taking it from her but, perhaps, that was what she wanted. He would never really have taken another's kill unless he was truly desperate and he was not quite that yet. He could probably catch some small creature later to satisfy his needs - afterall if it was easy enough for the female to have caught this small meal he had a good chance of getting one, eh?

He squinted into the sun, watching her with ravenous eyes.

The small dogs gaze traveled around boredly as she chewed on a large piece of meat, half of it hanging from her mouth. She glanced to the male and was actually a little surprised to see the look on his face. She hadn't thought he was one to not be able to feed himself, and, just for his viewing pleasure, she luxuriously licked her lips as she finished off the meat.

Hamaki's mind raced as she wondered if there was some way to manipulate this male to her will using the rest of her kill. For a fleeting moment a thought passed through her mind, clearing the darkness, 'Why not just share it with him?' but the thought was quickly overrun and destroyed before she even had a chance to process it. She shook her head, trying to clear her mind a bit, before looking to the male with a slightly disgusted face. She stood and turned her back to him, then laid down and continued to eat, making sure she was chewing loudly.

Agenti's muzzle was fixed rigid as he tried not to furrow his brow at her obvious jibe. Yes, she had food and he didn't. Gah, what an infuriating female! His eyes looked away to one side, pretending he was ignoring her but all the while seeing her ripping into the bloody carcass. Hmph.

After a while of watching her crunching, chewing, enjoyment he got to his feet. Annoyance flitted across his face and he began to wander away from the watering hole. In his pack everyone would share. He could understand a lone stranger not wanting to but he thought that, had he been in her position, he'd have shared. Or at least not flaunted his bounty. His eyes scanned the area fo any signs of prey...

Hamaki glanced behind her as she heard movement, and for a few moments she wondered if he would try to steal the kill from her. She watched over her shoulder as he began wandering away, and she smirked.

Finishing off the carcass as loudly as she could, she picked up the biggest bone she saw (which wasn't that big, considering it came off a hare) and tossed it in his general direction. It landed half in the watering pool, and a few fish began to investigate it curiously.
