I joined this guild a little while ago and even though I don't post here almost at all I feel it is the best place to put this.

I'm seriously pondering the thought of quitting Gaia. I believe that the site in general has taken over too much of my like. For example I signed on atleast 5 times today just to see if any announcements were put out. I have the usual gaian obsession symptoms. I'm item crazy, I freak out when the donation items are about to open. and it's affecting my schooling. I believe that God truely wants me to quit and start focusing on my real life instead of this pixelated one I have formed on a website. I mean I have 160k....and I'm not questing for anything. I'm not saving up for anything, but I keeping feeling as if I need to continue vending so I can get more and more gold.

BUT really the purpose of this vent topic is... how do you all feel about the cotrol that Gaia usually takes over it's members. Is this all worth it because I know most of us can point out MANY positive aspects of being on this site but do the negatives over power them? Are we all just making excuses?

i know what you mean. i thought about quitting this site a little while ago when the my Gaia obsession reached an apex. but gradually it has calmed down and i only post in this guild and a hangout topic.

and i think that Gaia is harmless fun as long as one doesn't get too sucked into it. if one finds that their time with the Lord is suffering, or any aspect of life that truly counts, because of Gaia then one should immediately cut it out. i don't have that conviction right now, but i'm kinda borderline. this community in this guild is the only thing keeping me in because these guys rock hardcore. (:

just pray about it. it seems like you think God is nudging you to quit Gaia, so i encourage you to do what you feel He is calling you to do, even if it means leaving a site that you love (or really like if love is too strong a word).

and i remember you. (:

3nodding True Story!
I had the gaia thing too for a while. Back when I worked for someones who basically paid me to do nothing. I sat on gaia for 4 hrs straigh every day till I got laid off xd . After that I calmed down a lot. I do check almost daily if not to see who sent me messages. I know a lot of poeple IRL though like my sister and sibling in laws (Who are really far away) and a few youth at my church and some peeps I went to school (college) with and my husband (who sits next to me on his computer). I started thinking of gaia more as a means of communication and spending time with love ones that I may not be able to. Maybe changing the way you see (then ultimatly use) gaia will help in your control your time on gaia. First and formost though follow what God leads you to do no matter what.

If it is really ruining your life.. you should quit.
It's good that at least, your questioning and that you know its taking over your life and ur not in denial. Good luck. Keep on praying. And take care.

I agree with everything everyone's said so far. Gaia is like a videogame- some people are easily prone to addiction while others are not. Most gaians can barely get enough of it. If it is affecting your schooling, you deffinatly need a break. 3nodding

I don't think Gaia is to blame at all. Gaia provides a service. If an individual becomes addicted to it, and their real life suffers because of it, it is their problem. Not Gaia's. It is important that an addicted individual either learn to indulge in their addiction in moderation, or quit it all together.

Depends on the individual again. I, myself, am able to spend upwards to 10 hours on Gaia a day, not including weekends, when I typically go to spend time with my girlfriend. I do not neglect work, nor school, nor the people in my life for it, yet I can safely say that I may be addicted. biggrin

Just without all of that negative stuff attached to it.

Are we all just making excuses?
All? Doubtful.

There have been moments when I have seriously considered quitting and getting away from it...but then I realized that I really just didn't want to. It's all a matter of control, for me at least. when this summer I realized I had just spent 6 straight hours on gaia, I forced myself to take a break. now, I just moved it to the bottom of my favorites list...so my online time is spent on more important things, like getting my online coursework done, emailing people that i miss greatly, and working on various assignments. By the time I reach Gaia in the list now, I see it more as a way to converse with friends I have made here and imerse myself (albeit breifly) in a community that I do care about.

and as much as I would hate to see you go, I understand the need to take a break...even an indefinite one.

Ok YAY update:

So I quit vending because I realized that it was the most time consuming and addictive part of Gaia for me. Plus I wasn't even enjoying it. It was basically this : refresh...refresh....oh a 1g halo! Aww I missed it....refresh and for 5 hours a day none the less. I just work with sealeds now If I need some gold.

and Kawaii_Senpai little story is pretty much exactly what I do now. Check Gaia to see if I have any messages or anythign happend. I feel free the pressure is released. I always knew I shouldn't have started vending though so there you go.

Thanks for the replys everyone <3
