Nobody's going to join an idle guild. So talk!
I'm not asking what you like in music. Well. I guess I could ask that. So. That.
But what I really mean is this- it's proven that some people like songs with similar patterns, timings, rhythms, notes, etc. As a general rule, sans genres, artists, slow/fast, and all other they just naturally like these songs.
Have you noticed anything like that for you?
And what do you think might cause such random appreciations?
I'm completely clueless. I haven't seen anything like that for me, but my mom being a music teacher talks about it occasionally, and it's the first thing that popped into my head for a discussion here.

Hmm. Well, first let me say that some things I find that make crappy music are random or crap instruments, like that stuff usually used in country or western. I mean, a ******** washboard? Having something like that in a song just makes it suck because it's annoying. As for what makes a good song, it depends on the genre.
Orchestra and big band depends on which instruments used, how many of each are used, and the speed and patterns, as well as the energy used.
As for stuff like rock ( i hate pop, country, and rap), it's all about creativity. Even if the guitar is simple and the bassline is only a few notes, if the song is different and innovative, as well as well put together (read: not just a bunch of screaming the same lyrics over and over, or boring same-old same-old lyrics performed without energy). That's all I feel like thinking about a 1 am. I may add more later.

Personally what makes good music depends
on the person. What may be nice to hear to one person,
may be like nails on a chalkboard to someone else.
(Unless you like the sound of nails screeching down a chalkboard.

So I think there is no right or wrong answer.

Even so, what about this?
Supposedly, the timings and... I don't remember what it was... Harmonics, and some other stuff that Bach used in his pieces stimulate the average brain in juuuust the right way that it increases academic productivity.
How could that be? Does that mean everyone likes Bach? Would it still occur if someone didn't like Bach?
Again, no real idea.

Yes, it does. because even if they don't like it, it still stimulates the brain. It's also shown that music that de-stimulates the brain is rap and techno. I like techno, sadly, ut it's actually bad for your thinking. I see a pattern emerging however. Rap is currently the most popular music in the U.S., and the intelligence of people in the U.S. is decreasing rapidly. It all makes sense.

...Well I don't think it's certain Genres...
Perhaps, the content of Rap lyrics though could actually be having some impact on what people think is cool, and therefore the choices they make concerning their lives and education?
Techno I can understand- it would actually discourage stimulative growth because it's mostly repeating patterns (then again isn't everything these days? >.>).
I kinda like techno too.
As much as I don't like to admit it.

For me, doesn't matter the genre, when it comes
to school work, or just school in general,
I get distracted easily, and lose thought. ^_^;;

Torch I totally agree XD.
As for what makes good music, its all on the person.
And it is true that different kinds of music does make your brain function differently.
Personally I think this topic could go on and on so this might be my only post in it.
