The passengers of American Pride, Flight 29, suddenly find themselves traveling on the airplane with most of the rest of the passengers and all of the crew having disappeared for some unknown reason. Fortunately, one of the passengers happens to be a pilot for American Pride who takes control of the craft. But more problems erupt when one of the passengers, Craig Toomy strongly objects to the captain's decision to change destinations to Bangor Maine to land in emergency, due to the fact that Toomy has a meeting at 9am in Boston the next morning.
Once they are down the ground, they discover that not only were they the only people left on the airplane, but it seems as though they are the only people left on the planet. Things quickly get worse, as it seems the very properties of physics have somehow changed on them: matches won't light, food has no taste, beverages have no carbonation, etc. so it seems like they are stuck. And then there's a frightening sound coming from the east... What is it? What you are to do, is to figure out what started this, where you are, and what you can do to get back to humanity.

From left to right: Dinah Bellman, Don Gaffeny, Laurel Stevenson, and Nick Hopewell. Brian Engle : Brian is a pilot who happens to be on the plane to fly to Boston to go to his ex-wife's funeral. He takes control of the plane and lands them twice in order for them to get to safety.
Bob Jenkins : Author of science fiction novels. He is the brain of the group. He writes about these things that are happening, but now get's a chance to actually live them out.
Nick Hopewell : Brit who falls in love with Laurel. He's lays the smack down on Toomy when he's being a d**k. He is very tough and likes to go on his own. He definitely knows what he is doing.
Don Gaffeny : Not really influental. He eats alot, and always wants more.
Bethany Simms : Punk teenager just out of treatment for alcohol. She smokes alot, and falls in love with Albert.
Albert Kaussner : Teenager who tries to be very manly, although very nerdy. He is very smart, and tries to help with anything he can. Falls in love with Bethany.
Dinah Bellman : A blind girl on her way to Boston to get surgery to cure her blindness. She has the ability to hear a flea sneeze onehundered miles away, or so they say. She hears the langoliers coming, and also can sometimes see what others see. She helps Toomy.
Craig Toomy : Craig is a strange character. He has many stress attacks, being as he stole money from his million dollar business. He has flashbacks of his father telling him of the theory of langoliers. He's crazy, and Dinah helps him realize when he's got to get out to the plane.
