Are you among those many people who woke up one morning and realized...OMFG I GOT HACKED JYU BASTRAD!!!

Pay close attention to what I have to say, because what I am about to tell you will help prevent you from getting hacked.

1. Most people use things that are familiar to them as Passwords. Such as Birthdays, family members names, nick names, etc.

~ DON'T DO THIS!
This is thee worst thing you can have as your password! What you need is something so off the wall that it doesn't matter!

2. *Random Site* requires a minimum of 5 character passwords. Such as 12345, abcde, a2c3e, etc...

~DO NOT DO THIS!
When creating a password for your accounts use the MAXIMUM amount. The less characters there are in your password the easier and faster you will get hacked. ALWAYS use the max amount of letters possible.

3. *Random Question* I can just use all alphabetical letters and be fine.
A. WRONG! You not only want to use Alphabetical letters but also numbers and even special characters too! Special Characters are any of the following: ! @ # $ % ^ & *
These are the most commonly accepted special characters.

4. *Random Question*Ok, but how can I remember a bunch of random letters? Why can't I just randomly choose a word out of the dictionary I like?

A. The Reason you do NOT want your password to be any word that can be found in a dictionary is that, that makes it easier for accounts to be hacked!
As far as being able to memorize a bunch of random letters. Here is the easiest thing in the worldto do.

Take your Favorite Song (I'm going to use Chutes and Ladders by Korn for this.) Then take what part of the song you like.
"Mary had a little lamb and it's fleece is white as snow"

Now take the FIRST letter of every word in that section of the song you like and turn it into the first phase of your password.

"MHALLAIFIWAS"

Now, I know this is going to seem redundant, but IF the website/MMORPG says that their passwords are case sensitive. Then do it. Pick one or two or half of those letters to be upper case and/or lower case.

"MhAlLaIfiWaS"

Yes, I know. I hate it when someone types an entire post like that. But it's your friend when you want to ensure that your account won't get hacked.
But your not done yet! Now, 1337 it!

"Mh4lL41F1W45"

Now add in the Special Characters where you can.

"Mh@lL@1f1w@5"

Now, look at that beautiful password! It's meaningless except to you, and it will prevent you from being hacked for a long time! I use this same system and my account has yet to be hacked and I have had my account almost 2 years.

What you use for your password is your business. I only hope this will inspire those in here to maybe rethink what they have as their password, not for just GaiaOnline, but also, all the other sites they use and for their Online Games

Even having a password that's not just one word helps a lot. Words out of the dictionary are stupidly easy to crack, since most password lists just copypasta other lists which have the entire dictionary on it. If you are using a dictionary word, you can be cracked in under an hour.

An easy alternative is to use a "Pass-Phrase". As an example:

Instead of the password: alligator

Use: alligatorshavelotsofteeth

Rather important, I'd say. Stickied, and if you can add to it, with any additional ideas, feel free to do so. =3

Also, try using homonymns. Homonymns are words that sound the same but have different meanings. I have some number homonymns listed below, feel free to experiment around with them! And remember, you aren't limited to numbers. There are words that sound the same but are spelled differently and have different meanins too! (I'll put some below too.)
0=oh
1=won
2=to, too
4=for
8=ate

They're, there, their
Except, accept (its pretty close)
Plate, plait
Those are a few I thought of off the top of my head.

Try using homonymns and number together to make a password.
Some good examples are:
3won56 (sounds like 3156)
ohwonforate (014 cool
69toforoh (69240)
toofor6ohwon (24601)
Then 1337 it, make it case sensetive (use sticky caps) and add characters to make yourself a hard-to-break password!

Also: its already been stated, but don't make an obvious password. My friend gave me her pw because she was going on vacation and wanted someone to check PMs and such for her. It was her nickname and a number. Don't ever do something like that! Ever! Never ever! It's practically a welcome sign for hackers!

Some Useful Tips:

Change your passwords every now and then. Don't keep the same one for too long! This isn't so much a problem anymore because the friends@gaia button was taken away, but always change your password after clicking a link in a chain letter. Always always always!!! And never enter your username/password combination into a log in page if it doesn't say http://gaiaonline.com/ at the top in the url bar. This is a SCAM! Report it to the mods immediately before someone gets their account hacked!

If I come up with more tips then I'll be sure to post them here 3nodding

Because I am a SciFi loser, I use Stargate Adresses, as these consist of lower and upper case letters and numbers. Try and guess my pass if you wish.. but don't forget.. the stargate goes to millions of planets. wink
