Professor Rua E. Blances: -Age: 25 -Job: Astronomer -Likes: Stars, clear nights, the countryside. -Dislikes: Medicine, cold weather, clouds. -Favorite food: Baked potatoes
The quiet, expressionless guardian of the shrine, Professor Rua spends most of her time there, hardly interacting with other citizens of Deskira. She is an astronomer, and pieces together Neais' work from 300 years ago, obsessing over both her jobs. People see her as aloof and antisocial.
Highly susceptible to cold, she wears her shawl everywhere. She is very sickly, but she still attends her job every day because of her love of the stars.
History: Professor Rua was born in a city far away, called Conestria, without any thought of the sky she so loves. She had no direction in life, and was quite apathetic to everything.
She visited the Morien countryside with her parents when she was 10. There, she saw the most beautiful thing ever- a dark sky full of little lights. She gazed and gazed until they returned to Conestria. Ever since then, the image of the stars were her passion, her obsession. Thirsty for more information on her new friends, she studied astronomy, and fell in love with it once more. She moved back to Morien for college, leaving her parents in the city.
However, while she was at college, Morien began expanding in business. Several trades were established there, and the stars became faint because of light pollution.
She moved to Deskira after she graduated, finding her love, the stars, once more. Here, she learned about the legend of Neais and was so fascinated that she settled down and now spends days on end researching this past.

Thursday, January 18, the hill
The zodiac is a path... the path that the sun apparently takes across twelve constellations. I've always found this concept amazing. Back when I used to live in Morien, I used to enjoy pointing out the signs- they corresponded to the horoscopes in the newspaper, so their names were not new to me.
I was born as the sun 'crossed over' Sagittarius, near the start of winter. Ironic, because I was never usually used to the cold. I must have been such a sickly child!
The sun's passing across Capricorn right now... It'll only be a few days until I can see the goat again. It's exciting.
Well, I better get back to work!

Saturday, January 20, the hill
I noticed something horrible today. As the sun moved along past Capricorn, I didn't see the goat in the sky. Capricorn's disappeared! I can't believe it! I will search this town to see what happened...

Saturday, January 27, the hill
I seriously cannot believe it. When I went outside earlier to see the stars as usual, but the constellation marking south was gone. Yes, that's right. Crux, the southern cross was gone.
Vulpecula was missing too, leading to more dismay. Even though this constellation is faint, it's still clear in Deskira. I remember watching the Dumbbell Nebula in this constellation though the telescope- it was the first nebula I saw, but that was a long time ago- when I first visited the countryside, an astronomer living nearby let me see his telescope and pointed this out to me. It was beautiful! But now it's gone. How sad.
Oh, and another thing. I was buying groceries the other day when a woman came up to me and asked if I knew what was going on at that librarian guy's house. I think his name was Lazuli? Hm. But seriously. Why would I know? Everyone knows that I live on this mountain. Maybe a relative is moving in or something.
Whew, it's cold outside, but the night is clear, so I'm going back outside.
