Day 3 Afternoon
------------------------
It was a beautiful day in the forest, if if Mister Rogers was still alive and in North Carolina, he'd be singing that little jingle he always sang on his show. Bing wasn't quite sure what that song was, but he'd be singing himself if he knew the song, or was able to sing for that matter.
He had unpacked his clothes back at the resort, if you defined putting his suitcase down on the ground and opening it unpacking, then yes. He had a checkered buttond down shirt on, tiny black squares on a tan background, with a white t-shirt underneath it. All the buttons were loose, from the collar to the sleeves, just the way he liked it.
With sketchbook in hand, and a few pencils in his pocket, he went down to the river, he didn't want to get rusty on his drawing skills, and the landscape was a lot different then what he's used to, nice place to get some new ideas. There was a large rock that'd be a perfect place to see the rest of the river, the view would be perfect for a first sketch. Bing climbed up the rock and looked down on the river below.

AJ blew a dissappointed breath slowly through his lips. He had been sitting near the water with a sketchpad of his own, squating on his haunches and becoming quite uncomfortable. He never suspected the perspective of a river at this angle would be so... fluid.
Perhaps I should have taken that class...
He brought a pencil back to the pad and began wisping strokes across the page.
Good... Good... Almost... Not quite... Better... That doesn't look right.
Looking back up, the river looked much wider than his sketch. Huh...
AJ lay down on the pebbled beach, his legs starting to hurt. Wearing his usual khaki shorts with a sky blue t-shirt. He fiddled with his medallion a little, cleaning off the dolphin carved in it.
After a moment, he gave up and set the pad aside, sitting up and listening to the river's flow. Before long, he heard a person approaching, and looking upstream a bit, saw Bing's head poke into view as he scaled a rock. His lips curl into a smile as he recognized the sketchpad in his hand.
"Great day for doodling, huh?" he called out, lifting his own tablet.

Bing looked up from his pre sketching and looked to the source of the voice. Looks like he wasn't the only one who thought this was a good sketching spot.
"Yeah, great place too." He yelled back, making a wave.
The rocks of the river were difficult, he couldn't tell if they were smooth or ridged or what from this angle. Ah well. The rocks were smooth from here, they shall be smooth on here. The outline was almost done, he wondered what he was going to do with the shading, water was so hard to do...
"Having any better luck down there?" Bing called to the guy from his spot, "This river seems hard to draw from up here."

AJ motioned toward the rock, "No more luck than I had up there."
With a smile, he stood up and brushed off his shorts, strolling across the rocky ground.
"I'm AJ, by the way, I live out by the coast. Mind if I see your book?"

"Eh, like the river doesn't want to be drawn." Bing said, "It's like those people who don't like their picture taken, it's hard to get a good shot."
"Bing" He said as AJ walked over. He looked behind him and gave the newcomer a glance of his sketchings, they were some quick doodles that he made, boxes and shapes and stuff. He hasn't been drawing full blown since college started, he really should get back into that.
"I'll take a look at yours."

"Oh, um... sure," He says, a little sheepishly.
Aside from three or four failed attempts at the river, the book had several pages devoted to dolphins, orcas, and other whales. There was an occasional seascape, and some Atlantean architecture, but the former was more sensitive to him than the latter.
"Heh, yeah, I'm sort of bad at branching out on my subject matter. Where are you from?"

"Some of these are pretty cool." Bing stopped at the Atlantean buildings, he particularly liked those.
"More of a dessert person myself, being from Arizona and all." Bing stood up and dusted off a little. The river shall be drawn, but another day. It was hard enough.

"Heh, thanks," AJ said, always relieved when his art passed another's inspection.
He sat down on the rock and looked down at the river flowing, watching the water sparkling in the sunlight, looking warm and inviting. He nearly had to physically shake off the feeling.
"Arizona, eh? I've been there once. What brings you out here, then?"

"Some loose ends to tie." Bing said simply, as if his father's passing wasn't a big deal.
He didn't want to think about it now, or talk about it for that matter. Bing was here to enjoy himself.
"So you live by the coast, eh?" Bing said, changing matters, "Is it really as cold as everyone say it is? I never thought so."

AJ chuckled, but noticed the aburpt change. He decided not to press.
"Days like this feel warm enough. I have a small place, so it's easy to keep warm when it needs to. Haven't been here too long, though. Just a couple months. I have seen some pretty spectacular storms come off that ocean, though. Those will keep you up nights"
He sighed a little, and realized he had been staring off in its direction for a few moments too long.
"How about you, then? Gotta be staying somewhere if you're from Arizona. I'm afraid I'm not very familiar with the town at all."

"Sounds more exciting then Arizona, hot days and cold nights is all that there is around there." Bing said, He pointed twoards the direction of his cabin, "I'm staying at my dad's cabin not so far away from here, part of a resort."
There was a small twitch in his fingers, wanting to pinch himself for saying that, but he shook it off without causing too much of a scene. Habits are hard to break, but he managed to ward off that one.
"You stayin' in one too?"

"Nah, I'm in it for the long haul. Left my life behind to be by the ocean as an artist. Was aiming for the Pacific coast, actually. In Oregon. They've got orcas up there, but I couldn't afford to go so far."
He sighed a little. "Well, maybe someday. Until then, at least we've got dolphins on the east coast."

"I know how that feels, wanted to be an art major, but couldn't afford it, so I got scholarships for math and science because that was the only stuff I was good at, now I'm being an engineer, just don't have enough time to draw anymore, too much schoolwork."
Bing sighed. He never liked the fact he was doing that instead, he hated math, despite being so good at it, so what if there was good pay for it? No point doing something you hate for a living.
"Take it from me, don't settle for less than your dream, you wanna go to Oregon, you sure as hell going to." He said to the stranger, he didn't want this guy to make the same mistake he did.

AJ smiled a little, "Yeah... I guess you're right. But this isn't such a bad place to spend my time waiting to move on. Certainly a better fit than New York. Oddly enough, it was math that killed my chances to do much else."
He stood up and stretched a bit.
"Say, wanna grab a bite to eat?"

"Fate's a b***h." Bing said with a sigh.
Bing looked down at the river, kicking a small rock in.
"Something to eat sounds good, I saw an Italian place in town, wanted to try it."
