Well they do tend to base places in anime off of real places. I dunno about copying an entire village, but many of the locations in the Suzumiya Haruhi anime are designed after real places.

In the motion graphic it shows the real village. I remember this most in Satoko's though.

Not in order mind you, but here's my list. I've seen it at the Shuffle and Higurashi Guild...hehe i think the images came from a Doujin and some images are from real life...hehe i want to visit the house of satoko and rika...KYAAAA...hehe

I don't post there quite a lot coz some topics are about shuffle...hehe i haven't watched it...and some members there have played the game of higurashi so i still can't relate to their topics...hehe
