You might know them. They tagged along with KoRn on the Family Values Tour. When most people think Stone Sour they think Corey Taylor and then others connect the line and say SlipKnoT. That is all true, Taylor is lead vocals for both bands although he started Stone Sour years before he was asked to join SlipKnoT.
Stone Sour was formed in 1992 with Shawn Economaki, James/Jim Root, Corey Taylor, and Joel Ekman in Mes Moines, Iowa. During their early years they released 2 demo tapes (one in '92 and the other in '94) but with no airplay. In 1996 Corey Taylor was asked by Anders to join a jamband he was forming. He named the band "SlipKnoT" because of the various influences. Taylor reluctanly accepted and brought along his own guitarist, James Root. In 1997 the band self released their first album titled Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat. The band had made a total of only 1,000 actual copies for sale which 500 were recalled and about 250 copies destroyed. After the failure of the record many of the original members of the band left but in 1998 Roadrunner got ahold of their album and wanted to sign the band. The band signed with Roadrunner in early 1999 and later that years reworked M.F.K.R into their debut album SlipKnoT with the permentant 9 members and the band known as SipKnoT had established it's mark. Then in 2001 they released one of their most aggressive albums simply titled IOWA. That year Josh Rand ran into Taylor and asked him about reforming Stone Sour and taking a look at some of the songs he had written. Taylor and Root did sit down and discuss but no actual plan was drawn out. Then in 2002 for the Spiderman Soundtrack Stone Sour had recorded their first single, BOTHER which was also released on their debut Self titled album later that year. But thanks to the single, Stone Sour was signed to Roadrunner like SlipKnoT. The album went platinum and in 2003 got a Grammy for Best Rock Album. Soon after, Taylor and Root returned to SlipKnoT and started to record their next albumw which was released in 2003 titled Vol. 3: (The Submliminal Verses). The album failed to meet the standards of the "Maggots" and became SlipKnoT's least sold album. After the release the band went on tour with Lamb of God and Shadow's Fall in the Subliminal Verses Tour. During the tour SlipKnoT recorded their first live album 9.0: Live released in 2005. After the tour Taylor and Root returned to Stone Sour and began recording their Sophomore album. But before they could even begin, Joel Ekman left the band due to personal issues and Stone Sour replaced him with Roy Mayorga from Soulfly (also subing as drummer for Sepultura). The album Come What(ever) May was released August 1, 2006 under Roadrunner and became Corey's most personal record to date with the single Through Glass. After the record was released Stone Sour joined KoRn on the Family Values Tour until dropping out to tour with Evanescence (they open for Ev).
