I've been having this problem quite a bit lately- maybe because I'm used to having someone else pressed up against me, maybe because I have more shite than usual on my mind- the cause isn't really important.
What IS important is what I do to get to sleep.
I write. I practice scales (which, by the way, I still can't play for s**t in the daytime). I walk up to the taco bell and get a burrito. I do situps and pushups until I literally cannot get up any more. I play mini sets for myself on the decks in my room. I put on some Massive Attack and trance out for a while. I listen to Jazz.
Despite all this, my mind simply will not shut the ******** up. I need a way to just knock myself out...
If all else fails, I usually just take some NyQuil- but try to avoid answers that end in the consumption of drugs. They are expensive and I am poor.
So, any ideas? What do you, fellow insomniacs, do?

Doing physical activity before sleeping is bad for you, it wakes the body up for more time since your body expect to do more. Even after exhaustion, it doesnt work. Try relaxing, best way to get asleep. My trick: Bore myself to death on the internet.

I read till I'm too tired to keep my eyes open almost every night, though that is more because I'm a big book nerd than because I'm trying to get to sleep... I find watching tv puts me to sleep a lot too, or if all else fails, smoke some pot and wait a little bit. XD

I lie in the dark and try to keep my eyes closed. I don't so much fall asleep as my thoughts simply become less and less lucid until I'm dreaming. Unfortunately, I can't really tell if I ever even fall asleep, as my hearing, which is surprisingly good when I'm awake, becomes, if anything, even better when I'm asleep, so I can still hear everything that's happening. I try to do repetitive things to make myself fall asleep, but my ADHD always interferes with that.

I usually listen to Kai Tracid and read Steven King novels. I cant take pills or do drugs to make me sleep because generally im already tweaked out of my mind. Only bad thing about amphetamines is the insomnia.

White Linen My trick: Bore myself to death on the internet. Yeah that works wonders when you can't fall asleep. You could always just play DDR until your legs give out on you. Then you would hit your head on something hard and pass out due to a minor concsion. I think you would be "technically" sleeping then. blaugh

Some of my friends played DDR until their legs gave out. They ended up in a pile purring at each other. Kayty kept commenting on Will's stamina (a fact that I abused to no end)
"Hey, Will, what's your name?" "Um...uh...Will?" "Good boy."
But they didn't fall asleep, because I was there, and no one trusts me enough to fall asleep with me there. Except for maybe Will, because he doesn't mind being taken advantage of.

When I walk or play DDR or any kind of physical activity, I curl my toes up. One day we played for several hours straight, with my toes curled up.
One got a blister and one toenail got all bruised but didn't hurt. It fell off about a month later. neutral
It grew back. smile

Playing DDR till I can't anymore just tends to make me lazy more than tired... So instead of getting ready and going to bed right away I'll sit around at the computer till the wee hours of the morning. XP

Physical activity until I drop just makes me tired. After a party once where I danced all out for several hours, I went home and found that I was still hyped up and energetic, but none of the energy was going to my muscles. It was just circulating through my nervous system and making me feel tingly.
