As the Duke Chamwith the Perceptive finally stepped down from the mountainous region onto flat land, he was discouraged to see so many trees, but welcomed the respite from any kind of elevation all the same. He'd spent the last fortnight scaling both sides of the mountain ranges in what had, so far, turned out to be an exercise in futility.

However, as he forced his aching legs onward through the forest, he had to admit that he was glad he'd done it. The last ten years, he'd been cooped up in his little fortress on the other side of the mountains, all alone, and for the most part in the dark.

Soon, a light through the trees caught Chamwith's attention, and he found himself staring at a very unusual building with a very unusual name painted across its sign. His eyesight was, sadly, too degraded to tell exactly what it said, but it struck him as being a very long name and having an affluence of L's and F's.

Upon entering, Duke Chamwith the Perceptive was immediately struck with the variety and vividness of the many lamps and bulbs being displayed in the shop. He turned to the man he assumed was in charge, and said, "I say, I don't suppose you might be in the business of light fixtures?" When the man nodded (albeit somewhat hesitantly), Chamwith sighed with relief.

"Excellent, excellent. Now you see, I have a severe lighting problem back at my castle, so I'm going to need to purchase several dozen wall sconces, and the wiring to support them all-- What? Really? You can only give me one? Adopt? I say, what a novel idea. At least I'll have one for my bed chambers, but this does cause some problems... are you absolutely certain you can't give me more than one? It isn't a very large citadel, it's just that I'm allergic to candle wax, so you see... No? Well, all right, I imagine that one will be all right...

"What? A 'Lava Lamp'? What the bloody hell is that? The one on the wall, you-- yes, yes, that's the one. I shall call him..."

He examined the small bulb and its curious markings closely, but it was all somewhat blurry to him anyway, so he just nodded and proudly made his way out, sconce in hand.

"I suppose I'll have to find a place to stay for a while... these old bones won't be making the trip back over the mountains quite yet. Isn't that right, you curious little blighter?"

Duke Chamwith the Perceptive, quite set on finding lodging for the night, didn't quite notice the bulb flicker with a dim glow...

"... Gherrit. That's what I'll call you."
