Nimue's head was low to the earth, delicately lipping up some dead grass as the silence of winter surrounded her. Her usually sleek coat had taken on a shaggy appearence over the fall, to keep her warm now. It wasn't as shiny, the hind had noticed, with a sour face.

Her mind, usually in need of compliments and adoration, was too busy eating to worry about attention. For the moment, anyhows. But still, ever since Anlach, there had been this nagging little question in the back of her head that wouldn't be forgotten. Why hadn't she been chosen? Nimue was a very young hind, she had only become one a year or so ago. Surely every stag fawned after her. Silently, the grey doe assured herself that they were just to shy to ask her, and kept on chewing at the tuft of grass.

ooc Grrr. I had my whole reply done and I was about to send it and then... My laptop restarted. >.>

There were a few major perks to being the storyteller. One was the respect shown. Lailoken wasn't going to be a fakely humble creature, he would openly admit to enjoying respect and the such if ever asked. It was almost needed in his mind, to at least be shown a little of it. Like most stags, it was highly enjoyed, even. The second perk was the calves. He was in the unique position of seeing new life in the herd everyday at Larn. They were always so jolly, the little ones, so full of spunk. The last perk had not been seen as one until he had been under the title of storyteller for at least a year. Lailoken was almost always with the hinds. At first, it had seemed oddly unnatural, but over a time, he had grown fond of it. The hinds were unique, all different, all special. Their motives for licing were far different from a stags, and their never ending love for their young was admirable.

It was often that the older stag sought out a conversation companion for the day. At this particularly cold morning, he had yet to find one, and was growing worried that he wouldn't. Nosing up grass from under the snow for grazing was far from enjoyable, and the bitter temperature pained his joints and stung his eyes. Some enjoyed the winters; he wasn't one of them. Moving slowly over the hills, his shaggy coat collecting snowflakes like a magnet, he hardly noticed Nimue until he was nearly upon her. She seemed to be brooding about something or another, and seeing as he hadn't actually met her yet, he took his approach cautiously. "Good day to you." His voice was calm and void of cheer and warmth, for the weather seemed to have drain him of any emotion at all.

One large ear flicked towards the storyteller, her head following. "As to you." Nimue's voice was flat, as if she didn't really care. Wasn't he the storyteller? Oh, yes, the old thing was. Stories were certainly nice, many deer loved them. When was the last time the hind had even heard a story..? She must have been a fawn. "You're the storyteller." The flat voice stated, not questioned. And then she turned her head back to it's original position, away from the regal looking old storyteller.

She hadn't been feeling too great the past few weeks, actually. A headache had plagued the vain doe for a few days, and there was still a dull pounding in her skull. It had softened, though.

Lailoken cocked a brow at her statement, unsure of how to respond to it. Seeing as it wasn't a question, there was no answered needed, but he still had decipher what exactly the hind had meant by 'you're the storyteller.' Was there a problem with being said rank? Not in his mind, at least not anymore... It was an honorable thing, to help the newest generation of hinds and outriders. He was even considering giving her up as a conversational partner and trotting off without so much as a nod of his head, but he figured it might be worth while to at least /try/. Maybe.

Slowly trotting around the hind to her front as to attempt to force a few more words out of her, he dipped his head. "That would be true, but it is not what I go by. I am Lailoken; who might you be?"

The hind kept staring into space, until the storyteller came into the view of the corners of her eyes. With a little sigh, she looked at him as he spoke. She didn't have time for this, she was too busy thinking. No time for the old creaky storyteller, shouldn't he be with the fawns and calves? Nimue finally spoke again, after a long silence between his question and her answer. "That's an interesting name," She said, slowly, then continued, "I'm Nimue."

Loosing his paitence with the hind's particularly spikey attitude, he dropped the gentleman facade. "How kind of you to supply me a name." His voice was dry and sarcastic, his face fixedly cold. He had never met a hind that was not at least willing to atempt a conversation before, and it was slightly curious that Nimue was so... there wasn't even a word he could use to describe it. "Is it beautiful? That place in your mind you're leaving for, that place you are apparently glued to." He would, at least, remain calm and mature in this 'conversation', if it could be called that. It would not be on his name for loosing his nerves with a hind. Perhaps, after a while, he would go find some young doe to speak with, as how they were doing and all.

"Oh, yes, the place is very beautiful, except for a small nagging voice that sounds very much like yours." Nimue sniffed again, not bothering to turn around. The place that she was indeed glued to was sometime in the summer, she was standing next to a large, handsome stag with many tines and gleaming fur, as he admired her fawn. It would be like that someday, wouldn't it? Pssh, maybe one of the more handsome stags would fight for her. Next Anlach. Yes, it would be nice to have someone fight for her.

Rather than take offense from the comment, Lailoken nearly chuckled. "What a sad little hind you are." He shook his head, but stubbornly stayed near her, grazing idley. He wasn't truely hungry, but it was something to do. Something to do other than harass Nimue, of course. For some reason, he was feeling my like a calf, and wanted only to bother her now. She had started it, after all, and that would be his exscuse should Fell Lore find out. "I find most hinds enjoyable, you know, but you're deffinatley a new breed for me." He wondered why she was such an angry creature, and if she honestly wanted him to scat or if it was all merely play to amuse her.

The doe snorted, taking offense from his 'new breed' comment. "It's not does that are new, it's you that is old." Okay, that didn't make any sense, but that was the best she could do. Nimue let out a breath, glancing at a squirrel that was scampering nervously around the base of a tree, muttering curses under it's breath. Wait, curses? One large ear perked nervously towards the rodent. "Hmmph," She hadn't even known they knew curses. Well, you do learn something new everyday, don't you?

At that point, the old stag cracked. He chuckled at first, just a lishg trickle. Then, the dam let out and he started fully laughing his aged heart out. The fit of hysteria ended with several coughs, but on a slightly good note. There was not a mirth in his eyes that surely wouldn't had been there so long as the conversation kept running on insults. "That didn't even make sense, miss." He caught his breath slowly, letting out a deep sigh. "May I ask what is so interesting about that squirrel? Surely you've seen them before ... or have you?" The ending jaunt was in good nature, as could be told from his still smiling eyes.
