I was sitting in bed last night trying to go to sleep like always when it struck me...what separates murderers that get the death penalty from our own soldiers or policemen or the people who administer the drugs for death by lethal injection? I mean those people are killing other human beings but they aren't in jail........I know it comes down to morals because just about everything does these days but I want to know how other people define murder....
I think no one should have the right to kill another human being...thus illiminating the government giving you the right to kill. But I don't think I'm really all that right...it's just what my mind says to me....no one should really be allowed to take another's life.....
so
Define Murder for Me in your own words placing your morals intwined? (I don't need any dictionary definitions I already stared at those)
Who do you consider a murderer and who not?

Thanks for your time.....
sorry if this is lame but it's kinda makes one wonder

Murder - you kill someone because you want to.

Those people don't want to kill, but its their job to if its necessary.

The death penalty is heavily flawed because of the judicial system.. I say it should be like Meineke: up-front pricing. Murder in cold blood - death. Rape and murder - death. Murder, then rape - ... death.

The death penalty should be used solely for those who are guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, and show no intention of reform. The long process of appeals only draws it out long enough to make heavier dent in tax-payers' pockets. =/

But as far as murder goes... the vague definitions above kinda skirt by it.

But really, you can want to murder someone, but not have the intention to do it, and randomly murder them when you see them. That would be some sort of crime of passion.

As far as the absolute, first degree of it: you thought about doing it, you left the house with the intent to do it.. BAM. You did it.

I agree with the stuff I put in red....I do think the death penalty is flawed because of our judicial system but that's beside the point.

The definitions are pretty basic and understandable. Generally I would expect as a response.

Random thought: Sooo if a soldier thinks about killing someone on the opposing force, goes out to the battle field with the intent to kill this person and they do it are they a murderer? *sorry if this is still rather stupid I just like asking questions about these kinds of things*

No no, your position is philosophically feasible, and would be one supported by such men as Gandhi and Christ. But like all things in life, there are many...many ways to look upon it, and several are correct simultaneously.

To me Murder is: a) Exterminating a sentient life for self gain. Gain can be pleasure (thus covering serial killers, etc) but also material gain (i.e. premeditated murder to get at a trust fund or something, but also by extension, the government). This is not the perpetuation of SELF mind you, as one can hardly say that killing a mugger in self defence is hardly GAINING, you are simply MAINTAINING your life.
