Is Akito insane or just mentaly challenged cause its kinda hard to tell sometime's with all the stuff he's done and how he's so possesive of the people in the zodiac

Maybe h, er, she is both. Sorry. I saw the anime first and I'm used to Akito being a guy. I'm kinda wondering why they had to change Akito to a guy for the show.
