Okay, since I can't discuss my changes on the site, I guess I can bring them up here.

The beta reader profile itself is more or less complete. I still have a few bugs to work out and get it styled in the rest of the skins.

I thought a keyword field would work the best for the "Will not read" section. Do we want to keep it like this or should I just make it the free space like we originally discussed?

I still have to create the programming that will list betas in the categories where and the search function.

While I'm at this point (and can't go any further until the site's back) is there any other suggestions?

I'd rather it be the free space. It's easier to explain exactly what I mean by what I won't read, and what situational exceptions there might be.

Aaaaand as an argument for the other side. Say the keyword system is being used. If someone's searching for a beta reader and puts a few keywords into the "Will Not Read" section, it will automatically weed out the authors who have those same keywords, right?

Anyway, I like the keywords. I described exceptions and such in the profile-space-thing... stuff like "generally no incest unless it's canon or a joke, like Host Club twincest."

Yeah, my thought was for the search function so you could weed out authors who wouldn't read your type or genre of story.

An open blank would be easier to add very specific things, but the keyword field would help with the search. I could still add in a free space, at this point it's a minimal alternation.

Right before the site went down, there were some complaints about the keywords which is why I asked.

Here's an example of what I was thinking:
  • Author A doesn't mind yaoi or slash, but hates mpreg.
  • Author B hates reader inserts, twincest, incest, yaoi, slash, yuri, femslash, mpreg, and cyoas.
  • Marohi doesn't have a problem with any fanfic types or genres.

All three are beta readers and all show up on the category you need.

If you can plug in what you need your beta to be able to read, say: twincest, reader insert.

Your results would come up with Marohi and Author A. Author B would be omitted.

Yeah... that's what I thought. sweatdrop I like that idea. For the incest example I gave, I wouldn't put incest under "will not read," but just clarify it in the profile space. *shrugs* That way, I wouldn't be automatically out for some things that I might enjoy.

Okay, based on discussions here and on Luna, here's the changes I'm making to the beta profile:

---------------------------------------
---------------------------------------
Status:
( ) Off ( ) Open ( ) Closed ( ) Hiatus
Key:
Off -- Not a beta reader
Open -- Open to beta read anything
Closed -- Full / Can't take any more / Not currently reading
Hiatus -- On break

Categories: (Just imagine the category select boxes here. sweatdrop )

About your services: Basically, you can put anything here, including images. Explain what you're willing to read, list current reads, progress, whatever.

Allowed HTML List + Notes

Will not read: Okay, by request, here's the long "Will not read field." This will be what's displayed on your profile. HTML will be allowed and you can be very specific about what you will and will not read.

Allowed HTML List + Notes

Will not read search terms:
This is a keyword field to help authors search for beta readers. It won't show up on your profile, but it will be used by our beta search. You put in what you won't read, authors searching will input what they NEED their beta to be able to read. That way -- say if an author needs someone to beta a yaoi fic, people who don't like yaoi will be filtered out from their search results.

HTML not allowed + notes
Example:
Good: mpreg, non-con, rape, incest
Bad: I won't read non-con/rape.

Will check for: (Check all that apply)
[ ] Spelling [ ] Punctuation [ ] Grammar
[ ] Characterization [ ] Plot [ ] Canon Elements
[ ] Overall Impression [ ] Other

Also, at this point, I'm also planning on removing the beta reader option from the main edit profile screen. Beta reader settings will show up for everyone and this screen will be where you turn it on / off.

EDIT: Okay and the changes are made. I also reset everyone's status, so you'll have to go back in and edit.

Today's update:
Skipped a class so I could work more on it. (I'm not obsessed, honest!)

- Formatted the beta page title for the categories so it's cleaner and linked it back to the category.
- Fixed the three bugs left over from last night. Clicking on a letter or page number while viewing a category's beta readers won't give you an error anymore.
- Fixed some style issues in Shinigami Blue

The search page is the next big step. What is everyone looking for when they search for a beta?

Right now, using just what's currently programmed you can search for beta status, categories, WNR keywords, and by what they'll check for.

Can you think of anything that might make things easier?

SURE your not obsessed we never said that *cough cough* xd

So you can search categories, as in "Anime" and "Poetry"? What about a topic search like the anime titles or free-verse poetry? Or would that be to difficult?

*grin*

You'll be able to search any category in the archive, including beta readers for our current anime titles. Not sure what you mean by a topic search.

You'll be able to pick our anime titles or Free-verse poetry just like the advanced search.

Well that was a smug grin if I've ever seen one...hehehe

Yea by topics I meant if I can search for say "Bleach" and find Betas that will beta Bleach fanficts...or "free-verse" to find a beta for my free verse...sorry for any confusion there.

But it sounds like you're one step a head of me there Jasson. xd
