(I've yet to come up with a title for this one.)
She stands alone,
Her fate unknown,
The future bleak ahead.
Her past is long,
She has stood strong,
With a heart that's turned to lead.
The once bright light,
Was swallowed by night,
As she silenced her captor's screams.
She feels the scars,
Trapped behind bars,
She's built to hide from dreams.
Death had come slow,
To her unfaithful boe,
Who used her and broke her trust.
She made the kill,
Until he lie still,
With a knife heavy ladden with rust.
The blood than flowed free,
As she fell to her knees,
Frantically clutching him tight.
Now's she's alone,
Her love under stone,
Staring out into the night.
(This was next poem written awhile back for a Fine Arts Festival I should have attended with my church. I won first prize in the poetry category the year before. I would post the poem that won, but my mother has the only copy at her house, so I'll have to wait until I get it from her to post.)
Without Excuse
"I'm sorry Lord, I cannot go,
I've way to much to do.
My time, you see, is running low,
I know I can't help you."
"My child, don't you see your path,
All ready and brand new?
I've cleared the way, now come and say,
You'll stand and follow through."
"But God, the days, they're running short,
How can you ask me to?
I'm very busy, and school is hard,
I can't do all for you."
"My love was put into your heart,
My calling's deep within.
I know you cannot turn away,
To live a life of sin."
"You know what Lord? You were right.
You are my inner strength.
Without your arms to hold me tight,
I'd not make it through the day."
"You see my child when earth was made,
All that I said was true.
I have created many things,
With power, just like you."
"I admit that I was wrong,
I had no right to doubt.
My time with you has golden worth,
Serving you is what it's about.
My faith in you is stronger now,
I've no room to dismay.
I'm sorry, Lord, I've no excuse,
To not sit down and pray."
"I told you, love, you would not go,
Too far for me to reach.
I know that life seems hectic now,
But do not fear to preach."
"My heart you have to live and dwell,
My hands are for your use.
My voice can reach to those around,
For I'm without excuse."
