Combat Zone Wrestling returned to the ECW Arena for their eighth annual Cage of Death show before a packed house at the ECW Arena. For those of you who are getting used to major shows that last 2 hours, 15 minutes...and getting disappointed in the process, CZW Cage of Death 8 didn't lack in either category, as it didn't disappoint, and went its usual marathon length... until almost 1:30 am.

The show was preceded by a Toys for Tots giveaway (and a fans bring the weapons contribution), which created an unintentionally funny moment as fans entered and were told "toys for kids here...toys for big people to injure each other over there".

The major negative for the evening was the injury to lead heel Eddie Kingston, who suffered a broken ankle after over-rotating on a routine backdrop (ironically enough, as the doors opened, Kingston came out to the crowd, to raise hell and stir up the crowd as they came into the entrance).

The marathon evening opened...

Max Boyer, Beef Wellington, Ricochet, and Chuck Taylor defeated Player Uno, Team F.I.S.T., and Niles Young after Player Uno tapped to the Walls of Jericho applied by Boyer. In a bizarre, CHIKARAesque moment, it was announced that Beef Wellington had "acquired" Max Boyer in exchange for Player Uno (who originally started the match with Wellington's team) plus a VHS copy of "Rookie of the Year".

Team AnDrew defeated The New Jersey All Stars with duel armbars.

Mana defeated DJ Hyde with a Samoan Drop.

Cloudy defeated Cheech in a Falls Count Anywhere match with an absolutely insane had-to-seen-to-be-believed sunset flip powerbomb off the top of a ladder onto a table set up on the floor, followed by the pinfall.

The Original Blackout (Rainman and Onyx) defeated BLK OUT to become the new CZW World Tag Team Champions. This match, along with the Team AnDrew-All Stars match, were the few disappointments of the evening as the teams just didn't seem to click, appearing to be trying too hard.

In the Number 1 Contender/Junior Heavyweight Title match, Hallowicked defeated SeXXXy Eddy after Derek Frazier hit Eddy with a steel chair. Afterwards, Jigsaw came out to confront Frazier and showed his knee would be just fine for next month.

Ruckus pinned Human Tornado with a Fisherman's Suplex. The crowd was hot as hell for this match, with Tornado popular as hell with the CZW crowd.

Pandora's Box (Adam Flash, B-Boy, and Messiah) defeated Danny Havoc, Luke, and LuFisto after B-Boy gave Havoc his trademark top rope double stomp, followed by a Last Call leg drop from Adam Flash. Flash looked hurt as he was helped up the ramp post-match.

Four corners of pain match/Ultraviolent Underground title
Drake Younger retained the Ultraviolent Underground Title against Necrobutcher after a sickening looking top rope Vertebreaker onto a chair. The four corners of pain featured a barbed wire bat, a ladder, a carpet strip board, and a staple gun

Justice Pain defeated both Eddie Kingston and Chris Hero to become the new CZW World Champion. Eddie Kingston broke his ankle after a routine back body drop. Kingston tried to go and couldn't even stand on the ankle...later discovered to be broken. He was quickly submitted by Justice Pain.

Justice Pain won the CZW title pinned Hero after a Pain Thriller (Burning Hammer). Pain granted Hero a rematch for the title next month. Hero put over Pain bigtime in the ring via the house mike. CZW made the title change mean something special...something a certain larger promotion in Stamford could learn from.

Intermission was then taken to construct the Cage of Death, a new Cage of Death...

The barbed-wire cage itself was set up on platforms outside and surrounding the actual ring itself. The cage was four sides of wooden barbed wire cage (think old school Mid-South) with a spider net barbed wire structure inserted within, as well as four panes of auto glass and platforms on the corners. Then, the fan weapons were brought inside. In the Fans Bring the Weapons portion of this match, the weapons included a barbed wire cat-of-nine-tails (gotta wonder what kind of person thought THAT up...) car tire (yup, a car tire), an ironing board decorated with Christmas ornaments, a shopping cart, a cactus, ladders decorated with various sharp objects.

After a one hour and twenty five minute intermission (during which the crowd was unusually patient becasue the structure obviously took a while to assemble, but CZW's staff seemed very well organized in constructing it), the Cage of Death main event was ready to start.

The main event started. Nick Gage, Zandig, and Lobo were introduced, and then... LuFisto, appeared on the ramp, and demanded to be put in the match with Zandig, Lobo, and Gage after the promise Zandig made to her at CZW's "Fear" show in Delaware this past October. Zandig obliged after the fans popped for her inclusion in the match, making the match a four way.

Lobo starts the senseless violence portion of this match, by driving Nick Gage through a pane of glass, followed by Zandig putting Lufisto through another pane of autoglass.

Highlights of the action featured Nick Gage trying to bootscrape Zandig with a pane of glass...that wouldn't break. Gage then drokicked the glass... which still wouldn't break. Other fun included Lufisto going after Gage with a barbed wire cat-of-nine-tails barbed wire whip, Lobo making barbed wire brass knucks of a fashion and beating on Zandig with them, Lufisto getting whipped into an ironing board set up in the corner...and later powerbombed through one of the panes of glass., only to return the favor to Zandig later.

The take your breath away dangerous spot of the match...and maybe of the year... saw Lobo give Zandig a Death Valley Driver off the top of the cage (and one of the platforms) through a barbed wire spider net in the ring, through the wooden platform surrounding the ring, onto the Arena floor. Hardcore Nick Gage won the Cage of Death main event, pinning Zandig after a chokebreaker, who must now retire according to the stips of the match.

I don't watch CZW, so I'm curious. What's this?

I was looking for a picture but unfortunatly I can't find one.

Basically it's a net made out of barbed wire. I don't know how they had it up for the Cage of Death (haven't bought the event yet) but usually it's just wire strung between a few pieces of wood and set against the ring and gaurd rail for people to be thrown into.
