Origins: The Faerys are a very elusive people, and very little is known about their beliefs. In the Patrian royal library, there is only one document pertaining to Faery mythology. An aged, handwritten parchment tells the story of one Aonghus Cricket-Rider, who narrated to the writer a story about the Faery race's emergence unaided from 'the void.' Aonghus claimed that the Faerys have existed as long as time itself, predating even the Human creation goddess, Somna (although this may have been a personal remark on Aonghus's part, to toy with the human writer).

Culture: Very little is known about the Faerys. They have no country of their own, instead choosing to live wherever they please, scattered around the entire continent with no formal government. Small Faery towns are known to exist, but leadership within these towns are informal, and territories are not defined. The Faery race, as a whole is said to be anarchist.

Encounters with faeries are unpredictable. Some are said to be incredibly wise, while others know little more than their own name. Some talk constantly in riddles, others in rhyme, or even in song. Most speak some variation of Patrian English, to varying degrees of grammatical correctness. There is no standardized physical appearance amongst the Faerys, they can be any color, and their wings can take any form. A few people throughout history have claimed to have met human-sized faerys. Their mode of dress varies from place to place, usually based on the materials available, and styles are usually consistent in a region.

((The inconsistency of Faery culture means that you can make up pretty much anything about them and it won't be wrong.))

Allies and Enemies:

Humans- The Humans view Faerys with ridiculous superstition. They tend to blame Faerys for every misfortune; droughts, miscarriages, broken toys, sick livestock, and even divorces are blamed on the work of ill-meaning Faerys. Conversely, many Human childrens' stories involve the magic and splendor of benevolent Faery godparents, Faery princesses, and other mischevious but ultimately good companions to Humans. In truth, the Faerys often live amongst Humans, but keep to themselves, unseen to all but a select few that the Faerys have taken a liking to. They generally regard Humans as being simply...'there.' Of course, every Faery is different, and it is indeed possible to gain one's ire and be placed under a powerful curse.

Some people believe that Human-sized Faerys live amongst the Humans, hiding their wings so that they may appear as Elves.

Elfs- The Elfs and the Faerys have a strong alliance, to the point where Faerys will openly reside in Elfin homes as official guests. Although the Elfs do not understand all the secrets that the Faerys keep, they know the most out of all the other races. The Faerys consider themselves to be dominant in their relationship with the Elfs, and will often make this known. The Elfs show Faerys total respect.

Nagas- Faerys are rare on the flat, featureless grasslands of Lacerta, and those who do live there tend to gather around the sparse, thorny trees peppering the country. Therefore, Nagas associate Faerys with trees and will often make offerings at the base of trees when in need of a Faery blessing. The Faerys are frightened by the Nagas' reptilian appearance, but will occasionally accept their offerings and give them temporary charms. The Nagas seem to think that Faerys are more powerful than they really are.

Po-Kai- The Po-Kai creation myth revolves around what is either a butterfly or a Faery. Some Po-Kai clans revere Faerys as sacred creatures, while others treat butterflies in the same manner. Faerys like to live in the densely forested Hau-Pei-Tse, and enjoy the respect they get from the spiritual Po-Kai.

Ghoblings- The few Faerys that live on Maliga are elusive and mysterious, even moreso than their mainland counterparts. The Ghoblings rarely see them, but apparently consider them to be allies. Maliga Faerys are as inhospitable as the Ghoblings themselves. Faerys from the rest of Somnium are deathly afraid of Ghoblings, who would gladly rip them to shreds. The Faerys and the Elfs agree that the Ghoblings are nasty creatures that cannot be trusted. Faerys distrust Hobghoblings on principle, and Hobghoblings treat Faerys with the same superstitions as the Humans.

Unica- Faerys are a part of Unica folklore, but take a backseat to the unicorns that the Unica depend on for their survival. Faerys are not considered to be very powerful or noteworthy, but are given considerable respect nonetheless. The Faerys like the Unica but aren't quite sure what to make of them. They call Unica magic 'Faery powers' and sometimes assume that Unica are the product of a Faery and Human marriage. The two races coexist peacefully but rarely do their paths cross.
