Shintai rests against the wall, his lips playing into a twisted smile. He grins at a couple of passer-bys and they flee, giving him a sense of satisfaction. He was bored and annoyed, which typically meant the calm before the storm was beginning to come...whenever he wasn't entertained, people suffered.
Which was irony itself, his enjoyment came from suffering, and yet it wasn't until he became bored that those suffered around him. And he rarely had anything to do with it, he behaved while bored; it was anger that caused him to run someone to the ground...control, that was all that he wanted...

Shintai sighs, glancing up to the sky while shoving his hands into his pocket. He glanced at the southern end of the town, back to where he felt her. He narrows his eyes, and begins to wonder, maybe he could call her here, get her to come to him.
He's sick of waiting, and while the chases are good for his health; they were growing old...he was sick of waiting.
He clenches his fist, and begins to focus on the shape of a large burly wolf; he can picture the tense legs with the muscles rippling beneathe the skin and then the image is lost...his casting failed.
"Hmph, guess my casting is a bit rusty..." he mutters with a rather dejected tone.

He concentrates again, a little more desperate than before. He can only cast magick so many times before he ran out of stanima, so with a gritting of his teeth; he focuses on his energies again.
He builds upon the last image, from the legs he reaches the chest of the beast and begins to run downwards of the spine, imagining the tussles of hair and build of the rib cage, only to have the image shatter again.
A snarl escapes him, once again the magick slips away. He pounds his fist against the brick wall behind him, sending a glare to anyone who dares to look him in the eye. Another attempt, and he knew this one would have to work...

Shintai closes his eyes, preparing to gather as much of the energy he could, his lips tightening into a straight line while doing so. His eyebrows knit together, creasing his forehead with wrinkles and he begins to chant under his breath, attempting to keep his focus on the task at hand.
He can feel the spine extend and become a tail, the muscles connecting to other ligaments and such. He tries to force the image to finish, to complete the wolf's head, but already the image is crumbling, and then it fades...
"I will not be beaten by some stupid spell," he snarls, his eyes opening suddenly in his rage. He stumbles at first when he walks, the drain of attempting, and failing, with his magick taking effect. But he would not be beaten, he would get her attention...he was sick of waiting.

Shintai halts in an alleyway; a shadow casted from the sun enshrouding him. He has failed three times, and the image had been lost. He would have to try again, it would be the only fail-safe way to reach her...once casted that is.
But the busy streets, the nosy on-lookers, everything was disrupting his work. A quick glance confirms the alleyway's peace and quiet. He will get the casting right, it will work. Shintai is much too impatient to wait for long, and so after allowing a day of rest; he has come to try and try again.
The feet and legs are foming again, raising from wisps of nothing to muscular, and sturdy, legs. But already the image is tearing, and it is beginning to crack and fizzle out...
Shintai begins to run a chant in his head, manipulating the shadows around him, hopefully this would help him keep in control.

And the image becomes sharper, almost instantly. He can feel the muscles layering the bones, the pulse of blood not there. The spine extends, already a tail is forming, the lungs and the heart are next. It was all coming together, but he can feel the weaknesses of his casting. The result of exhaustion and little practice. Finally the head, the brain, all of the necessities of living creatures have been imprinted, and the creature's eyes open.
Shintai gasps when he finishes. His breathing comes in wheezes, and he knows that it took more from him than expected. He notices the outline of his casting, just a mere shadow on the alley wall. All of that effort to imprint a shadow to do your bidding, the concentration and the strain, but well worth the effort.
For the most powerful magick is that which cannot be touched, and that which goes bump in the night. So Shintai nods his head, commanding his cast to rush through Crosshaven, and find the one he searched for...he was tired of waiting.

(And it looks like Shin's little shadow will be back with company)
Ai was crouched over, breathing heavily. She was not out of shape, but running all the way across town wasn't an easy task. She wheezed a little more before checking out her surroundings, and still no sign of anybody.
The shadow was just a bit ahead of her, waiting patiently against the wall. Ai narrowed her eyes and she could see the shadow's rigid stance; it had struggled with the journey too. This meant that while successful, the casting had apparently gone awry.
"When are we going to meet 'im anyways," Ai asked the shadow, understanding that there would likely be no answer.

"I would say now, my dear," Shintai purrs, a smug smile traced his lips. It had been a long time since they had seen each other, and she had been much younger, and less aware. He stands just out of arms reach, remembering last time he confronted her, and crosses his arms over his chest as a reflex.
"It has been a while, hasn't it Miss Ai," he states, not waiting for any acknowledgement, "I hope that you have not forgotten me." He tries to not seem intimidating, to be more casual and only slightly in-charge of the situation. He wasn't interested in a fight, not at this hour of the night at least.
The wolf-shadow, recognizing its role as being over, begins to fade. The bonds that allowed it to keep its shape finally dissolving. Shintai dismisses it with just a wave of his hand, his focus still on Ai.

(We're writing in different tenses...but at least I'm not dead.)
Ai jumped when she heard Shintai's voice at her side. He had come from nowhere and was acting quite calm for their out-of-the-blue meeting. She gently ran her hand through her hair, the light strands darkened in the night, before speaking out.
"What are you doing in Crosshaven, Shintai. Last I heard; you were quite content with our hometown. Is it too boring now?" Ai taunted, defiantly glaring at Shintai. She hadn't seen him since she left, and at that time she hadn't really thought about leaving in good terms. Her hand throbbed a little, and she felt herself dropping the glare.
"Did it scar?" Ai mumbled, feeling her eyes instantly hit the floor. She shifted herself so she didn't have to look at him, rather wanting to stare at the wall where his wolf-shadow had been.
"I didn't want it to, just so you know..."

"No more than it had to, my dear," Shintai murmurs. He had been watching the expressions fleeting over Ai's face. She had always been like that, if he recalls properly. She was always ready to stand up but easily backed down. "No harm done though, as I function perfectly fine," he states while focusing on the jab taken before.
Tonight, he smiles on the memory, would be the anniversary of their parting. Their hometown had shattered away into nothing but a brittle stalemate of religion and industry since then. "That place is not even suitable for fungus; I doubt anything living will stay there much longer. The people sufficate on its history and on the fact that they are as alone as they fear.
Their God, the one they continually worship, has not returned the pleas because he is a figment that does not exist. You and I know that He is nothing more than an excuse...but I wonder, does this place hold the same God as we have before? What runs this town, my dear, government, religion, industry, agriculture, or is it a common ideal."
He watches Ai again while bringing one hand to his chin, "Enough with that talk though, I'm interested in catching up. You must have some sort of job to support yourself. And what about company...my pet informed me that you have a puppy but is there anyone else."

Ai couldn't believe the fact that their home town had fallen into apparent despair and that Shintai was so willing to speak ill of the faith. "How did the town fall apart, Shin? Last I heard things were headed off pretty well," she asked him solemly. Even if she didn't go back, it wasn't like she had any wishes that the town fell flat. She began to clasp her hands together in a wrung-out method; her eyes focusing on the alley wall behind them. It was starting to get cold, and she couldn't help but notice that it was darker.
When she finally glanced back up at Shintai's face, she had caught the last bit of his conversation. "I'm a waitress. I don't know why that matters to you, or why you need to know who I spend my time with. I have an actual life you know, one that doesn't involve running track all the time."
Shintai would understand the quip, and she could see him tweak a grin onto his face. "There is a church though, here in Crosshaven. The older man, probably the head priest, is nice but I don't like the other man, I guess he's a priest too. He's a creep though, a pig," Ai exclaimed before turning red. She stuck her arms at her sides and stared at Shintai ruefully, "I had a run in with that guy...we're probably not on the best of terms."

Shintai shakes his head, a smirk playing across his lips. "Our priest, if there was ever a sheep-in-wolves clothing, introduced some large companies to our quaint little hometown. Unfortunately, all of them were tycoons and they bought the surrounding lands and many of the poorer settlements. Our hometown is just another pit of industrial waste now, not that it was worth much beforehand. Only the most devote stay there, and they will stay till they wilt on spot in their sacred little land. The old priest, the one who used to praise our land and practices and swore our Lord is the allmighty, has fled to another city."
His eyes narrow at the thought of more religious conflict. "A run-in with this town's religion too. My, you certainly know how to blend in Miss Ai. Who may this 'other priest' be? I wouldn't mind an introduction to him, maybe at this church?" Shintai leans against the alley's wall; his face playing between curiousity and irritation. He had never been fond of priests, but he had always found church buildings and a religion's history a very interesting subject. Perhaps it was the power, the symbolism, that attracted him to this branch of human culture.

Ai felt herself blink in a moment of awkward silence. The fact that her hometown had been destroyed by industry...she had not thought that that would end the town. She had expected warring between the religious, blasphemy, struggles for right to worship and such nonsense, to end the town. "Not the way I thought things would happen," she murmured to herself, ignoring Shintai slightly.
Her thoughts snapped back to attention when she realized that Shintai was waiting for her reply. "It's not worth it, although the church is pretty old, rather comforting and beautiful, but the people would irritate you and you know it. I like Crosshaven, and I'd rather not have you storming about because of a priest's point of view. He's not worth getting riled up about, besides, there are much better places in Crosshaven to explore." The city was large, and Shintai would, although she knew he wouldn't admit it, enjoy the town much more since his search had apparently ended.
Ai was flashing her eyes at Shintai with warning though. She did not want him running to the church, to her home, or anywhere else since he could really be a grouch if something went wrong. "Don't bother me too much, Shin. You know better," she was determined while she said this; with a look of warning that was all too readable on her face. She did stop glaring though, when she asked him the next item. "How long are you planning on staying? I'd like to know your plans sooner rather than later, kay."

Shintai just raises his right eyebrow at her little comment, before replying with a rather amused expression, "Miss Ai, I do not storm about. Storming is too undignified, so I march purposefully while crushing anything in my way underneathe my feet." It sounds like teasing, and coming from anyone else it probably would be teasing, but with Shintai, well, this could be quite serious. He stops though, and once again glances towards Ai, and can't help but chuckle at her.
So with a fairly light wave of his hand, Shintai tosses his previous comment to the moon. "Don't worry Ai, I have no reason to cause trouble for you all. I'll be a good boy and stick with being the inquisitive tourist. You will continue to see me, won't you. I plan on sticking around until something decides to pull my interests. I'm secure enough to last quite a while in this buzzing city of...talents." He can't quite keep the gleam in his eye hidden, and it's obvious from his cat-that-eat-the-canary smirk that he had quite a few adventures planned for his stay here.
Finally though, his eyes trail towards the open sky, dotted with stars and screened by the clouds. "Perhaps its time that you head home Ai. It is rather dark, and I shouldn't keep you out past your bedtime too much." He offers his arm, and waits for her response.
