A bit similar to the Atma Challenge, but there's no overall scoring. Rather, the 3 judges will decide on which player executed the best, funnest, or most eye-catching strats through the game, or the single best strat in the game. The winner of the match may not necessarily advance, because the sole factor of advancing is from the trick factor. Basically, do the stuff you see in the Pimpest Plays featured at SClegacy.com. Note that screw-ups or simply something silly like writing on the mini-map will also count towards your trick rating. Sign-up by posting your account name@USwest here. Match-ups are randomized. I also haven't decided on what maps to feature yet. Probably the maps I liked back in the Atma Challenge.

No sign ups...at all? C'mon, this is a good opportunity to play some decent players on B.net without any hassle from PGT or WGT games.

It sounds interesting.
What maps did you have in mind to be played?
PostPosted: Fri Dec 15, 2006 12:21 am

The list is still incomplete, but I'm highly likely to add the following: (4)Blade Storm, (4)Dahlia of Jungle, (4)Kakaru Keys, (4)Lost Temple, (4)Regnum Noctis, and (4)Rush Hour. Note that the Lost Temple I'm going to use is the latest ladder version, whereas the 12 o' clock has been rebalanced and the isle mineral positions has been changed to a more standard line.

Also, the maps you'll be playing in the matches are going to be randomized. So if you want to prepare for the tournament, it's a good idea to at least try out all the maps. I'm still deciding on whether to keep the list of maps small or add some more variety to it. I'm tempted to add (4)Blood Bath and an island map just so players will be forced to work on non-standard strats.

I want to try this. It sounds like fun without keeping an actual record. SWEET! xd

UPDATE:

There are currently 8 entries in the Trickster Tournament and more spots are still available. If you wish to refer to the brackets, view this page:

http://www.bracketmaker.com/tlist.cfm?tid=193398

The map pack has been released. You can either download all the maps individually or in a zip file. What's the difference between the first set, the (2), and the (4) maps? The first set is the original map, playable in melee settings. The second copy of the map is the 2 player obs version. This map will be used if there are more than 4 players who wish to observe the match. The 4 player obs version will be the standard map used within the tournament, unless there are over 4 observers, thus the 2P version will be used.

Map Pack

Melee Maps:

(4)Blade Storm V1.5

(4)Blood Bath [Original Blizzard Map]

(4)Dahlia of Jungle

(4)Hall of Valhalla

(4)Jungle Kill

(4)Lost Temple [New Ladder Version]

(4)Jim Raynor's Memory

(4)Regnum Noctis

(4)Secret Island

(4)Sha-Ka Ree

(4)The Ragnorok

2P Edition Obs Maps:

(2)Blade Storm VTObs

(2)Blood Bath VTObs

(2)Dahlia of Jungle VTObs

(2)Hall of Valhalla VTObs

(2)Jungle Kill VTOBs

(2)Lost Temple VTObs

(2)Jim Raynors Memory VTObs

(2)Regnum Noctis VTObs

(2)Secret Island VTObs

(2)Sha-Ka Ree

(2)Ragnorok VTObs

4P Edition Obs Maps:

(4)Blade Storm VTObs

(4)Blood Bath VTObs

(4)Dahlia of Jungle VTObs

(4)Hall of Valhalla VTObs

(4)Jungle Kill VTObs

(4)Lost Temple VTObs

(4)Jim Raynors Memory VTObs

(4)Regnum Noctis VTObs

(4)Secret Island VTObs

(4)Sha-Ka Ree VTObs

(4)Ragnorok VTObs

Note that the observers must follow guidelines as well. Although perhaps a bit of a given, the observers must not communicate with either of the players during the match, with the exception of the end of the game when one player has already given up. If you wish to talk to the other observers, make sure you're on ally chat.

How goes the tourny? I am eager to face my next opponent. 3nodding

It's still sloooooooooooow. Like, one match every two weeks. As in one match total, not per tournament. And there are two tournaments going on. So that is pretty slow. Just enjoy your long break. And prepare, because the quarter-finals are a lot tougher.

in my last match i sent about 60 marines to attack and it glitched up, and the walked in a way that made them look like a hand fingering you.

Do things like that count as a trick?
Ex: 1 - Moving units in a formation slightely amusing or just making a formation in general.
2 - Doing funny/stupid things that have some sort of effect.
3 - Knowing that you lost, but are still dropping builders all over the map and building bases just to annoy your opponent.

Are any of those legitimate?

To Bab:

All those are legit and can rack you some points, depending on the judge. However, a trick that greatly benefits you in the game is always favored.

To xionlord00:

It's really hard to say. The best way for me to describe the way the judging is handled is to imagine yourself watching the game. What would impress the audience? Is there a really genius strat you could do right now that could get a wow from the observers? What can you do to make the game less boring?

Keep all those in mind and do your best to be able to find an answer to all those questions.

Xion, would you prefer that I contact you by e-mail or PM on Gaiaonline?
