If you have played Kingdom Of Loathing, then you should know or at least have heard the term ascension.
*Highlight to read what ascension is. *---------------* Ascension on KoL is when you ascend into a higher place after beating the Naughty Sorceress and saving King Ralph XI. When you ascend you are born as an Astral spirit and wonder the great beyond. After you get bored of that you may be reborn in the Kingdom and follow a different path and choose a different class. =o *----------------*
That was a little description of what happens with ascension. The point of this topic is to basically talk about ascension and gameplay. You may talk about your fastest time to ascend, or also talk about what your strategy may be when ascending. Also talk about special classes and bonus's you may recieve for certain signs. :3 So come in and be a part of the discussion. =D

Well I have Ascended about twice now working on my third one and I have to say it is worth it.

I've been on a year now and haven't ascended. I hear from ADH about a trophy you get as a lvl 30 disco bandit.

Yes -- as soon as you reach level 30 in any class, you are eligible for a new trophy for that achievement.
So far, I've ascended 22 times with my hardcore character and 30 times with my softcore character. It is definitely worth it, to have skills you can use from other classes. Imagine, if you will, playing an Accordion Thief (with all his great buffs and the ability to buy stuff from the other guild stores) with Seal Clubber fighting skills!
Also, it brings a new meaning to the game. I've been around in KoL since before they put ascension into the game, and it got really boring after a while, after you've been to every section and seen all the jokes 100 times. Ascension gives you new goals and new things to do.

Yeah, alot of higher-level players were leaving before ascension was implemented because there just wasn't anything to do. I hardly ever played because there wasn't really anything to work towards.

I'm relatively new to KoL, but I've ascended twice. I love experimenting with different classes (started off as a Seal Clubber, then a Disco Bandit, now a Turtle Tamer) and skill-perming (I see myself skill-collecting, as it were, in the future. I've already permed Double-Fisted Skull Smashing and Mad Looting Skillz, and plan to perm Amphibian Sympathy next.) I also really enjoy the post-ascension content - the Cola Wars equipment's a godsend for when I'm stuck in ronin, and I enjoy the different areas opened up for the Zodiac signs and the new equips/items/etc they have.
For those going after the L30 trophies, I recommend defeating NS early - she scales to your stats, so she'd be really nasty later on! [You can keep the king imnprismed, or just free him and not step through the gash for a while - I do this to get skills and meat/item farm. biggrin ]

was a pastamancer and now accordian thief! now i ready to ascend again!

I'm on my 8th or 9th? Ascension now, just plodding through attempting to make life easier. Having Advanced Saucecrafting/Pastamastery both help, reagent dishes are quite handy for stats and adventures.

Hat: filthy knitted dread sack (Power: 60) [unequip]
Weapon: Cerebral Crossbow (Power: 90, 1h) [unequip]
Off-Hand: Cerebral Crossbow (Power: 90, 1h) [unequip]
Pants: ninja hot pants (Power: 70) [unequip]
Accessory: Baron von Ratsworth's money clip [unequip]
Accessory: Baron von Ratsworth's monocle [unequip]
Accessory: bejeweled accordion strap [unequip]
You get ready, you aim, and you fire your Cerebral Crossbow at him, hitting for 15 (+10) (+4) (+6) (+3) (+6) (+6) damage. KAPOW! SOCKO! BOOF! SPLAT!
not joking, I usually kill everything in at least 2 hits
