I got bored and started playing one-pocket by myself. Its tough, like golf, and would probably be good for teaching ball speed. The first thing that I learned is that if you shoot like you would in 9-ball, all your balls end up at the opposite end of the table (not good).
The rules I played by were like the official rules posted above, but since I was playing alone I decided that any of my "opponent's" balls (I split it into solids and stripes, 8-ball belongs to both) that were pocketed anywhere on the table would stay pocketed, and I could only win if I pocketed all of mine before the others were all gone.
