theres been a lot of debate over whether aang gave up katara or not to get into the avatar state. so just to stop it, i have proof, straight from the nick website:
he didnt. what it says is,
The first time he meditates, (in 2.19) Aang has a vision of Katara in trouble and has to abandon his celestial twin. The second time he meditates, (in 2.20) Aang is interrupted when Azula shoots him with lightning. In both cases, Aang is unable to clear the chakra and master the Avatar State.

yeah, n its not like he had to give her up for forever and ever. she was just a distraction at the moment, and in order for him to enter the avatar state, he needed to be free of distraction and earthly attactment. i think he only has to go thru the chakras during the avatar state, when he exists, im sure he can do as he pleases

that would b e cheating to give her uo whenever he needs the avatar state! that would be weird emotions!

he also couldnt give her up temporarily. it was something he had to do forever. but he didnt. thats my point.
