while i'm not about to deny that this sort of thing can happen, most, if not all, of the stories i read seemed to be fiction. especially stuff like people giving Goths dirty looks solely because of their clothes.

A lot of people who go to church are judged only by their looks. I have known people in my church who are judged for not wearing skirts to church (these would be women). They are sometimes asked to leave. Because they are wearing pants. Not jeans, or anything grubby, mind you. Just a nice pantsuit. And not a skirt.

Depends on the church, imo. Some places love to welcome the 'lost'. Others fear change. As far as my experience goes, at least...

My Brother has had, perhaps, the worst.
He went to Church with a friend of his, when a family came in a bit late, though(I would think) forgiveable as they appeared to be new. The Bishop stopped the service, pointed them out and said, "We don't allow your kind here!". The Family was embarrassed, and left. My Brother was a kind of pissed you couldn't contend with, and still is, kinda.
The Family was African-American.

Se Ga Takai My Brother has had, perhaps, the worst. He went to Church with a friend of his, when a family came in a bit late, though(I would think) forgiveable as they appeared to be new. i like burnination while i'm not about to deny that this sort of thing can happen, most, if not all, of the stories i read seemed to be fiction. especially stuff like people giving Goths dirty looks solely because of their clothes. There was a homosexual couple that went to my church a few years back. In the end they left because they were getting dirty/hostile looks from some of the members. I wasn't a member at the time.

The day I came out as a lesbian is the day that I lost all of my friends from church, which consisted of 80 percent of my friends. I've been thinking of visiting that church this coming Sunday, I haven't been to church in a few months, and I haven't been to that one in even longer. but to be honest, I'll probably chicken out.

purple panther how do I add to this without getting a pity party..? The day I came out as a lesbian is the day that I lost all of my friends from church, which consisted of 80 percent of my friends. I've been thinking of visiting that church this coming Sunday, I haven't been to church in a few months, and I haven't been to that one in even longer. but to be honest, I'll probably chicken out. Probably the greatest reasons I can't stand prejudice against Homosexuality within the Church.

There was a small saying or story told by jesus in the bible (that i can't recount the exact chapter or book in the bible at the moment) about a church, a rich man walked in and was welcomed wholeheartedly, and then there was a poor beggar that came and then was treated horribly. In a way most ppl will read that and say "I've never done that" and the truth is everyone does that. Whether they say it aloud or think it.
They will treat christians with respect and then turn towards the other and
treat them as horribly as the beggar.
I have friends that are bi-sexual, lesbian, and gay and i care for them because they are my friends, I was friends before they decided they were gay and i am friends with them after.
I tell them about god and they listen, because i listen to them. They don't mind it but lately other ppl who i know go to church there are practically frightening them to death and scaring them away.
I want my friends to know Christ because i care about them and i want them to be happy after death.

That sucks. No real friend should ever cast you out because of a life style choice. You hate the action, not the person. I've had and will most likley continue to have several gay friends. I may not like that particualr life style, but when I make a friend I stick with them no matter what. How are we as christians ever going to show the perfect love of God is if we hate people because of how they look or what sin they have commited? I am not goth, though you couldn't tell that if you saw me. I just love dark colors. Christians who rebuke people because of how they look or what they do almost make me ashamed to call myself a Christian. I may not even say that I'm Christian anymore because of that, I may just call myself a Child of God.

I don't think I'll ever understand why people do that.
I know, for a fact, I probably wouldn't be very liked at the church I went to if I ever told anyone I was Bi. The Pastor would probably make an appointment for me to talk to him or something, and then one of my Mom's friends would be on my case about my "sin" even though I'm not with any girl. And my mom... Man, I don't know what she would do. Ha. I just find some churches to be too pushy. But how are we supposted to teach people the Word of God if we're picky about who learns it? Does it really matter, honestly? Geez. People need to open their eyes. This world doesn't get easier to live in if the "Christian" population is beathing down everyone's neck when they should be opening their arms.
