Okay, because I'm curious.. I wanna know how the play stands up vs. the movie.
Naturally, this would require you to have seen both...
My vote is (obviously) for the theatrical version. I saw it on Broadway over Spring Break this year, and it was amazing. I had seen the movie a week earlier and prayed for betterment.. and that's what I got. biggrin

I liked it two years ago. I hated it now. Since it sucked on broadway (and to give variety, I say: SCREENPLAY.

Oh, that's good.. methinks this will create some unwarranted sympathy for the screenplay!
And you still haven't given reasons. >.<

Umm...it's not really a play, and it's technically not even a musical, it's an operetta. I don't usually bother saying 'operetta' most of the time, just go by musical. Yeah, thought I'd hurry and clear that up.
I definately love the musical better, but probably because I didn't like the way Gerard Butler did Erik....heh heh...But yeah, musical has my vote. It's not entirely on topic but I enjoyed the book the most. It was truly delightful, you get a great grasp on the story. Plus all of the details are fun. So pretty much, Book-Musical-Movie. Fun stuff! ^^
(I did love the Charles Dance version of PotO though, the Raoul is to die for! But what's up with calling him Philippe? xp )

Yay. Well, I wrote the topic really late at night. Forgive me for not thinking.. o.o But because I feel like defending myself: It's musical theatre. Thus, it can be construed as a theatrical production. Hence the reason I called it theatrical in the poll. I was too lazy to type out theatrical when I wrote the topic... yeah. There you go.

Oh theatrical is fine, it is indeed theatrical. It's just not a play is what I was saying. Play-no. Musical-yes. Theatrical-yes.
But no biggie. It's all good. whee

I'm one of the few who favors the screenplay to the musical. *prepares to be eaten alive* gonk I've never had the chance to see it live, so I really haven't been able to witness the magic everyone says the stage version brings. sad When i finally get to see it on stage my opinion may differ, but right now, I like the screenplay. 3nodding

... But.. but.. Trust me, go see the stage production. It's better. (In my opinion, of course.)
