Wrath, pride, envy, gluttony, greed, sloth, and lust all existed in the of humans. Created by god this world was filled with life and nothing but life. Yet a desire filled the hearts of so many, tainting their minds and soul to greater heights. Their hearts turned away from god, and looked towards a new light. Burning, devouring, people discovered Sin. Reality become unknown to man kind as each one became the same as the rest. Sin was becoming their truth.
In order to spare their lives, a new soul was created. One soul to hold a every ones burden, to hold Gods crimson tears. Cain was born. With out question Cain’s life was thrown into his own depths of hell as each sin played out into his mind, the deaths, the suffering, and the desolation took control of his body and his mind. He was born to watch those who die.
Never was he given the chance to live like you and I.
He never understood the happiness we share.
He was alone, left in despair.
Since Cain was never truly alive, he could understand the true suffering of death himself. He walked alongside man able to touch and feel just like everyone else. Yet this did not aid him as he was forced to watch everyone he knew die around him while stayed the same. He was never to suffer the fate of old age or sickness. He was free to do as he pleased as the sin of each still continued to run through his body. Yet his mind was not tainted was not tainted , he was an innocent child. Silver hair and ivory pale skin; his eyes tainted red. He looked different yet his mind was untouched, he never understood this word ‘sin’ people continued to say and use as his name.
Those born without parents to claim, those brought by sin would burn in hell. Cain did not understand, he did not see why people continued to shove and push him around. He did not see why they continued to taunt him with selfish words of hate. He thought theses type of things only existed in his nightmarish dreams. Stoned, beaten, and brutalized, Cain experienced every type of torture as he continued to live taking in everyone’s sins. It seemed like it was never going to end.
But then it happened.
Sin bled into his blood stream.
Towns and cities went up in flames as terror ran through the hearts of everyone. They could not stop the now tainted Cain. One by one, each were slaughtered by his hands. No one was left standing. Not even the innocent.
The once pure child of God’s creation was now a blood thirsty demon. Everyone’s sin was to great to hold within a mere child who walked on earth. So Cain was thrown to different realm. The Underworld
The purest of innocence had committed the biggest crime.
Cain was given a last chance to before he too suffered the same fate as those kill. To reap the souls of the nearly departed. Never before was such a job needed, but because no child was there to take in the sins of everyone, people died and remained dead. Murder and sickness played upon their souls and someone needed to be their to take them away from their suffering. Given a new body and his Crimson Tear sharpened and spiked. Cain stood tall and wise for now he was man. His pale ivory skin still covered his body alongside his silver hair slightly covering his blood red eyes. White satin covered over his body as armor and chains wrapped over his shoulders. We was the true color of death.
For thousands of years, Cain walked the earth unseen by all who were destined to meet his Crimson Tear. Those you who were allowed to escape death and able to tell of what they could seen, would explain to others that they saw a white light walking towards their soul. Little did they know, that it was Cain himself about the reap their soul.
Slowly the decades past, more and more the lives of the people were taken by him, for the world had grown into a deep despair of torment. Things changed, he remained. False religion, tainted idols, murder, lies, thievery, rape, racism, suicide, greed, defeat, all were becoming more and more abundant. Painfully Cain saw them becoming more and more like him, becoming more like the person he was cursed to remain. People were executed for their beliefs, sent from the homes they knew so well, walked up the wooden planks to be hung. And Cain sat there and watched slowly losing himself as well.
The time of witchcraft fell upon his shoulders. The times when falsely accused men and women were burned at the stake, their bodies charred to a crisp that left a disturbing scent for the passer Byers to smell, caught up in their daily lives they moved on without a look. Cain had to do it once again, take the life of a women who bore child without a father. She hung there tied with ropes, not screaming for selfish pity words. No, she cried silently for her 10 year old child would be alone in the world. And screaming out to her the boy prayed she would be set free so he could hold her for one last moment. Inside he wished he would be there too, up there with her, being alone was a far greater punishment than death could ever be.
Still knowing this his laid upon the scene unmoved, he had witnessed it before this time was no different. He watched and waited, they brought the flames under her, he watched and waited, she screamed for them to leave her child in peace, he watched and waited, the flames engulfed her, he watched and waited, her body consumed by flames and ridded of life slowly. The moment cam and he slashed his scythe to claim her soul. She was gone.
Cain felt something inside him for a brief moment. Unlike before where he just left for his next victim waited, he decided to put it off and see what happed afterwards, just to see what would happen to boy. One by one the people left, they went home to eat supper. The boy however remained. Supper was no longer something he wanted. Cain knew his feeling.
He sat his feet on the dirty ground and walked over to the lonely child. He face was lowered, most likely hiding his tears. He lowered his head to see the boy’s face in curiosity. The impossible happened, the child reached out and took Cain’s snow white cloak in his hands, gripping him, holding him as if his life depended on it. Never before had this happened. Shocked, Cain jumped back but the boy still held on. He cried for his mother to come back, tears staining Cain’s clothing.
How could the boy see him? Was it even possible for the boy to see him.
“Mister, give my mommy back to me…” he cried out in pain. It was the first time in all the years for Cain to hold someone. Out of longing he fell to his knees and cradled the boy in his arms.
“I’m sorry…” Cain said… "I’m so sorry…I can’t.” he words were breathless. Cain finally fond someone who could see him, who could feel him. He cared not that the boy’s tear’s were staining his clothes blood red.
More and more Cain looked at the boy as the days went by. He already had hired the help of another to aid him in his reaping. It eased him to relax and watch the boy. Every now and then he went into his house. The bought looked and saw him as a father. He would laugh and smile everything Cain’s cloak landed on the floor. The never took notice that he was different, to him he was an angel.
Time passed slowly days became weeks, weeks transformed into months. Slowly their bond grew. Cain felt for the fist time ever the meaning of companionship and longing. The boy was small, maybe half of Cain’s height, his hair cut boyishly and unevenly the color of the dirt on his floor. His eyes blue like the never ending ocean, and his pale skin complimented all there was to be on him. Ironically the boy’s name was Gabriel.
One year passed and Cain sought something more. He never experienced a deep love or anything of the sort. Then Cain let go of his lust he had built up for so long. He pushed Gabriel down, kissing him lightly, softly, his first kiss was the only one he remembers now. Then he ridded the boy of his clothing. Gabriel just laid there looking up at him, blue orbs of light illuminated. He took the boy, every fiber of his being. The little angel was unaware that Death had laid his hands on him and took everything he had left. After they both laid quietly, next to each other bare and huddled for warmth.
“I love you, Gabriel” Cain said, tears streaming his face. Gabriel snuggled closer, his mother said that to him all the time but it was the first time Cain uttered the words. And the boy smiled and fell into a slumber whispering the same words to Cain as he did. Cain had to leave, he had things to do…he however ignored them and went to sleep as well.
They both awoke to banging on the door and a burst of people flooded the room. They were sickened by the sight. They too could see Cain lying there naked with the boy in his arms. They had heard them the night before. Moving swiftly they took the boy and dragged him outside, Cain darted up to get him but his clothes and scythe were not there, the villagers did not take them, they could not touch them without dying, if was as if God snatched them away for Cain’s punishment.
They dragged him outside as well, the being of white was dirtied by mortal soil. The boy was mounted like his mother, Screaming for Cain, this time he wanted to live…not to die for Cain would still be there with him. He wanted nothing more to stay with him. Then at slight remembrance he remember that Cain was an angel. They lit the fire and Gabriel smiled, for he knew he would be with Cain in Heaven. Such a childish belief. Never had Cain wished that theory were true but now for the first time he had regret making it otherwise.
There was so much unkindness in the world, so much hate and disbelief. Cain could feel it all. He looked up at his love burning, burning in a sea of flames. Gabriel shouted out to him. “I love you Cain, I’ll be with you soon…so please lets play together again.” And he was gone. Taken from Cain. In the instant Cain disappeared from his capture’s hands and became how he was before, a being that only existed to kill. He saw them all leave, all the people go home to have their supper leaving Gabriel’s body to smoke at the stake. Cain was the only one who could smell it. He took the boy’s soul and kept it instead of sending It away. Then placed in in his scythe as a momentum of his once being mortal. For crying, for longing, for fearing and hating…for loving. Gabriel helped him see that there was nothing but loss in the world…and Cain would have to witness it all…for the rest of eternity.
