Reefwyrms are bottom-feeders who scavenge the remains of Seabat meals, small scraps that sink to the bottom of the ocean. A beautiful mix of draconic and crustacean features, Reefwyrms are vertebrates, with parts of their spine fused to the inside of their beautiful shells. They can retract almost completely into their shells when threatened, leaving only their horns exposed. The small dots along the outer edge of these horns are primitive eyes that can detect motion and light, allowing the Reefwyrm to know exactly when danger has passed. Their claws are sharp, but their arms are weak, meant for combing through sand and rocks for food, not for fighting. Their horns are also unsuitable for combat, as their horn eyes are a liability.
The Reefwyrms are highly adapted to their environment, but they have retained remarkably identifiable features from their land-dwelling dragon ancestors. The fins at their sides are actually wings fused to their sides. They even have a small, vestigal organ in their throats that was once meant for breathing fire.
