Wow, uhm. I join a clan about D&D, and all I ever played was Baldurs Gate 1 and 2 (Greeaaat Game, by the way. Eh, Boo? *squeee!*), and of course Neverwinter Nights plus Expansions. But from what I've heard from friends of mine, the actual D&D'ing is nowhere near the PC games. God I wanna play actual D&D! D:

D&D is more open ended than the PC games.

really
with a computer game you're limited to what's programed, with pen and paper you can litrally do anything you can think of

But on the flip side, you have to do all the computations and dice rolling for the paper and pencil system. Which is horrible to some people because micromanagement sucks.

Yeah micromanagement sucks, but it's hard to micromanage when you don't know what your PCs are going to do next. The game is mapped out to fine detail, but not every rule must be used in a game. Some of the more in depth rules are just asinine and can be ignored. It's all a matter of getting your group to make a house rule about it, changing the rule or removing it totally.

I haven't actually played D&D myself either but a friend of mine is going to be showing soon and I can't wait.

Dungens and Dragons is an extreamly fun game! I have played it since I was seven and my father has been DMing for about thirty years. The last few years I have become I DM myself and let me say that I find DMing much better then just playing. As a DM you can create your own world or take one out of a book like Faerun. I use a Faerun setting but have never actually taken a map out of the Faerun book. Since I have read the Drizzt books I just created a map using what I believe is the settings. The best thing I like is that as a DM anything you say goes. Anything you want can happen.

OMFG, that sounds horrible to me. A DM telling "We play in Faerûn" but making up a Faerun that has got nothing to do with the published one because he makes it up from his memories about horrible novels... OMG...
Have you got any players already?

Arkum Daggson, why are you always so negative? If she's having fun, don't bug her about it. It's a game.
